Love that you say each horse may need a different type of rider. I ride a lead dominant mare while my mom rides a more submissive horse. I have to ride my horse differently than she does because of the different reactions & response each horse gives.
Oh my gosh! This reaction to the black banner is exactly how my horse did and caused me to hit the ground with a lot of bruises and a sprained elbow. I have been so much harder on my horse with those types of reactions since then and it has helped tremendously! So nice to see this is the correct response! Thank you!
Haha I remember wild kingdom was one program we watched when I was a child. It came on Sunday night before the weekly Disney show/movie. Marlin always did the talking, while Jim did the action. Back when there was one TV in the house and the parents controlled programming lol.
Surprising to see how fast the horse changed but very nice and yes I very probably would have been off when he spooked at the dark sign thank you once again for excellent video 😊
I do appreciate being able to have space to deal with reactive behavior when you’ve got space to safely work with the horse. On a tight trail or with trees all around it’s tougher.

I’m intrigued by how many gaited horses that get sent to you. Is it the location ? Lots of gaited horses in that region ? They seemed more high spirited than I expected
My dressage instructor explained it as that the shoulder-in gave the horse a "'command" (so to speak) to focus on rather than thinking about the spooky place. So it's very much like Tim's expectation that the horse must be focusing on the rider.

One of the reasons you have weird reactions from each side is because the horse brain does not have a corpus callosum which we have that transfers information from one side of the brain to the other. Because of that it is like riding 2 horses. The right side and the left side. That is why we have to train both sides.
this has been debunked by MRI's, horses do absolutely have a corpus callosum. It is smaller and thinner than in a human so horses don't generalize information as much, but the whole "riding two horses" thing is a bit outdated now.

Dennis is just like my horse. He spooks easily and walks sideways when he is afraid. Thank you for this video.

Yes there are a lot of gaited horses around me.
