    Step #1, remove as much of the old fluid as possible by utilizing a vacuum canister and a hose inserted down through the dipstick opening. You can then remove the pan without making a mess.

    Thoughts on drilling a hole in the stock oil pan to drain it if it's going to be replaced with the new pan with a drain plug anyways... Figured it would be less of a mess.

      Yes you can if you want. Just be careful. Its likely to get all in the drill and make a mess too.

    This is as good, if not better than any other refill procedure I've seen on the 6R80.
    Most people seem to have leak issues when the copper crush washer is reused on the Dorman pan. I think some guys get a little too excited and losen the plug just to try it before install, then don't change the washer before using the pan.

    The only issue I found with this video is the LuMax pump. I purchased a Lu Max pump as you suggested thinking I could finally change my fluid by myself however after about a pint the pump locked up causing I wasn't able to use it. I was so disappointed that this product was totally uselessness for this application. If anyone knows a pump that does work with Motorcraft transmission fluid I'd love to know. Thanks for the informative video at any rate. Keep up the good work.

    • @oneeyedlama

      Before installing the new Dorman drain pan it may be beneficial to add a little bit if thread sealant to the drain plug threads and let that cure for 24 hours or more before installing the drain pan. This should eliminate any fluid leaks through the drain plug threads.

    Couldn't one drill a hole in the old trans pan to drain the oil without taking a bath when dropping the pan. I did this on my 99 F150 and then welded a drain plug over the hole.

    If you're replacing the drain pan then you can drill a small 1/8 inch hole at the bottom of the old drain pan to drain the fluid out. This way you don't have to deal with messy spill over of the fluid over the back side of the pan when unscrewing the bolts from the drain pan. Since you're not using the old pan any more there should be no issue for drilling a hole in the old pan to drain the fluid. Later on, if you decide to keep that old pan, you can drill and tap a bigger hole to adapt a new drain plug.
    Also there is a another way to add in the new tranny fluid. You can buy a new dipstick which comes with the metal cap (Cost is about $20). Take the new metal cap and use a dremmel tool to cut off the top of the cap. Make sure to leave a small lip and fit clear tubing over this lip and zip tie it tight. Then extend the tubing up into the engine bay. Stick a narrow tunneled funnel into the tubing and fill from above at engine bay level standing up.
    Alternatively - you can cut the old dipstick cap and install the new dipstick and cap afterwards. This way is better since you're cutting the old dipstick cap and not the new one.
    For drilling the old drain pan, you can cover your drill with plastic and just have the drill bit sticking out that way oil will not mess up your drill.
    Excellent video. Thank you
    Hope this helps. Russell

    Great video and good detail on the work. Question… Would a flush of the fluid be a better worth the time or would this service suffice for a 30k service interval? I like the replacement pan. So much easier if planning on keeping the truck long term and changing the fluids and filter say every 30k. Again great video and thanks for posting it.

    • @BOSSC351sProductions
      @BOSSC351sProductions  3 года назад +2

      If the pan is filthy or fluid is burned then probably. I rather just start off changing fluid and filter in 30000 mile intervals. Price it at your Ford dealer then see if you think it is worth it. I rather not have them touch anything of mine.

    Good video friend. The only thing I would add is to check the dipstick when the trans temp gets to it's normal operating temp of about 190 - 205 degrees. That's when it should be in the "B" range of the dipstick.

      On these transmissions, you really don't want every last drop replaced. There will be microscopic pieces of clutch material that actually help keep the transmission operating properly. For that reason, Ford does not recommend a vacuum style fluid exchange.

    • @BOSSC351sProductions

      Between 6 and 7 is really what you need to have on hand. Remember that it will vary from one transmission to another and depends on pan volume, what has been drained from the transmission, and waste or leftover fluid in the pump bottle. This is where the dipstick really comes in play.

    • @vegasfordguy
      @vegasfordguy 10 месяцев назад

      It's not just Ford, but most manufacturers. It's mainly to get vehicles through the warranty period without clueless owners adding the incorrect type of transmission fluid. Many don't have a dipstick at all and must be pumped in through the bottom of the transmission pan. The good ole days of being able to check your fluids under the hood are disappearing. Some manufacturers no longer have engine oil dipsticks!!!

    i have 2013 F150 FX4 ecoboost. I wanted to replace oem pan with the dorman pan with a plug, but after clicking on ur link to Amazon, the reviews on it were mostly bad based on fitment issues with filter spout being too long or touching surface and not siphoning fluid due to blockage. @@BOSSC351sProductions that actually sounds like a great idea and you could probably do one of those quick valves sometimes used on the oil drain plug... not that loosening/tightening a single bolt is a problem but why not if you have the clearance. You can also slide a hose onto some of them which makes oil catching even cleaner.
