@@azekel7687 funnily enough I didn’t remember any of the family drama when I re watched it a few years later. All I remembered was the big robots fighting 😭
I love the sub-plot of Charlie having the idea that robot boxing is 100% about the robot itself, and slowly learning the importance of the pilots and all too. It's like a reverse of how a lot of people see things like racing and all, where they just look at the driver and forget the insane work of the engineering teams. It also just feels like a realistic mentality for a guy who has been effectively replaced by a robot.
I didn't pick this up until a rewatch but when Baily is telling Max about how Charlie used to be, she says he would fight by making his opponents tire themselves out, she recognizes what he's doing when he starts shadowboxing with Atom during the last round
This guy does not miss with the surprise uploads started following few months ago and was kinda glad to see he didn’t have too much content already out there so it’s a treat to see all this amazing things come to his channel
The reason he didn't use the same voice commands at the beginning was because he didn't believe in his own capabilities as a boxer anymore. He chose the lazy route and used the preprogrammed attacks the robot had instead of trusting his own instructions. That's why at first all we see is Charlie making all the wrong decisions. He doesn't trust himself enough to choose the difficult road, so he goes for quick fixes and easy outs, which leads to him constantly getting deeper into debt.
@TIMSTOMES1234 the 2nd robot that used a different language at first could use voice input. But he kept using the preprogrammed fighting moves in the robot instead of just relying on his own knowledge of boxing. That's why it's frustrating to watch, because he could have used normal commands, but he kept calling out the preprogrammed attacks.
Loved this movie. The style/technique with Atom being backed into the corner and Zeus’s power being depleted is called the Rope-A-Dope in which the boxer taking the punches (non-injury) in the corner of the ring has the energy being spent on him spread throughout their body into the ring’s ropes, making the hitter tire himself out and the receiver having an advantage
Don's face when Charlie and Atom hit Zeus with the superman punch was just out of this world, I've never seen a face do that outside of eating sour candies.

Ok so I guess I'm old, but as GenX I want to point out that this is based on a game we had as kids (at least in the US) called Rockm Sockm Robots. It was all plastic and a few rubber bands I think, but each side of the ring had control of 1 robot and you worked the controls until someone knocked the head up of 1 of the Robots. You then had to push the head back down into position to play again 😂❤
I loved playing that game with my brother/dad when I was younger! And I'm technically Gen Z (just turned 23 last week), so I don't think that makes you old. I guess it is an old game though. I never knew that Real Steel was based on / inspired by that game, though! I always just thought it was a coincidence
Not the only influence, technically the short story that inspired this was first adapted for screen by the Twilight Zone in black and white. But pretending Rockm Sockm wasn't another big influence would be a lie. Especially when you look at the starting robot.
I really do think Real Steal is one of the more slept on movies like this just because most boxing fans aren't into sci-fi robot stuff and more sci-fi people aren't into boxing (in general) but its SUCH a good blending of the genres with a nice feel good story.

Atom!!! Yyyaaaasss!! I saw this when it came out at the movie and then bought the DVD right after. Been watching it ever since. Something about watching Hugh Jackman in movies no matter the movie. Zeus wasn’t ready for Atom because Atom fights for longevity and Zues wasn’t built to do so. All the naysayers were in for a shock! David & Goliath indeed! Ooh and my boy Anthony Mackie AKA Falcon in there too! I’ve seen the bully in a few movies too, including working with Dwayne The Rock Johnson in Standing Tall.
Real Steel is of my favorite moves. With how small Atom is compared to other robots it reminds me of Punch Out. Little Mac facing boxers that are double his weight and size and raising above everyone.
Also, in recent news about this movie.. The director said himself that "even though the movie did well" he wouldn't want to make a sequel that didn't deserve to be made.
