But since I’ve been watching your videos and how you handle adversity, and just push right on through to get your tasks done, with a smooth attitude, I apply what I’ve witnessed you do to my daily chores around my farm. When I get mad at firewood that I’m stacking and ready to curse the whole stack out, I suddenly say, “remember how Andrew handles things.” Then I take a deep breath, stretch, and get back to work. I don’t know Andrew, every time I see you it seems that I know you from childhood. So anywho, thank you for sharing part of your daily schedule!

Cool man, once again you got it done. I noticed your trailer ramps take a beating from the D-4. We save old mudflaps (or random pieces of rubber) and use those to lay over the ramps. It also helps with cold and wet slippery steel surfaces. Nice work!
If I were the homeowner I'd keep the original driveway too, Andtew did good work with the dozer but it is still enough of a slope to give you trouble in the winter
Exactly my thought and nothing better than having a circular entrance and exit, especially that one is good for left turn and the other for snowy, slippery days.
They may have to, here in Australia, your official address is the driveway, if you make a new one, well, good luck! So he may need it for USPS deliveries

It should, I have seen them lose hydraulic lines and even get up through the floor board and go right through the gear shifter making it so you can change gears. And sticks sticking up behind the dozer when you drive in reverse are a big problem.
Hey Andrew I can relate to your work and your work ethics like you I learned to drive all sorts of machines at a young age my first behind an international btd 6 commonly known as a droit and then all the cats with blades with buckets with scrapper attachments all the ranges swing shovels my choice being a komatso .started in January 1964 and retiring in 2012 I also learned in construction how to drive cranes I ended up driving tower cranes until my retirement all this work being in the 🇬🇧 UK apart from 6 months in Berlin Germany driving a swing shovel with all the quick release attachments a leibher 941 Keep up all the good work and keep learning regards from John in the UK 🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜

Now I know what y'all call trackhoes in the UK. You must have a ton of experience operating equipment. I have been operating since 62' and don't plan to retire unless I start tearing things up. Never been in a tower crane but worked around them. I hear they turn into a weather vane when the wind blows so too dangerous for me. I hope you will continue sharing on You Tube. Nice job as always. That rock will make a good base. Yeah, it would be a lot better with that lower area raised up but comes down to money. If I was the owner with the skid steer I'd be having a lot of moving material around and filling that in. A much safer access which needed to be done and he has all that old material from the old driveway to use also. Thanks for sharing.
To anyone who hasn’t seen the dozer starter replacement video, I highly recommend it. You’ll never see someone use a skid steer to change a starter on a dozer. I think this is precisely why we love you man👍🏻🇺🇸🤘🏻

I don't believe that all of the sticks, logs, top soil, and other plant material that he left the road could be called "Ready Made Road Base Material!" I have never been able to compact 10 to 12" boulders either!
Mhammer1943 it’s gonna settle a little and then top it in 3 years with crusher run. It’s fine trust me. Couple soft spots might open up but a few buckets of #3 crushed stone binds it up
Watching this reminds me of when I was young clearing stumps with my grandfather to make new dairy pastures watching him run our D4 with a homemade root rake on it GOOD TIMES 👍👍!!

Another top job mate! You have inspired me to put a bid in on some site preparation , about $30k worth of work. Owner covering materials costs. If we hit rock then additional costs to be determined. I’ve already got a JCB 3CX Backhoe, Toyota 8SDK backhoe, needing to push a road through, replace a culvert over a small stream, dig and install a septic and leech drains, and prepare house pad/water tank pad and battery utility shed, and run a water main 500mtr along the road. I’m looking to slap $3k on a dodge tipper, to bring materials to site, and tail dump gravel on the roadway. You’ve covered everything I’m looking to do, and with work I’ve already done on my own 15 acre site I reckon I am up for it. Firstly... thanks Andrew. You rock Secondly, after your thoughts on whether an excavator or bulldozer would be the next machine to look at, I reckon about $10k would be max budget, thoughts on what to get next? Well I'm not Andrew but if you want my $0.02, an excavator is the best direction. It's a night and day difference between a tractor loader backhoe. After that, get a mid size bobcat. That being said, if you get a good deal on them then you may as well buy it. That includes a dozer even if you don't have the other stuff.
Yeah my bobcat is a decent sized 8SDK, and my Backhoe is a JCB 3CX 4WD turbo diesel, pretty solid machine, excavator would be faster for trenching water, but there’s lots of tough ground out this way, making a small excavator pretty useless, probably need 15-20T with rock breaking to do better than the Backhoe, it’d be different if it was sandy or wet clays. I’ve not used a dozer myself, but everyone I’m talking to says shit like “ahh yeah a dozer would make that dam bigger piece of piss” I’m figuring the Backhoe can break shit up, the bobcat can do finishing work and load up the tipper to move dirt around faster than bucket by bucket, then what next.

Nice work. I feel you pain with the battery situation. The two in my E350 7.3 van seemed to go flat, even with a battery maintainer on them. I think there was something wrong with the charger as it's really old... Good thing for the dump, pretty hard to start high compression engines like a diesel, most people don't have a clue. I have to agree - lots of existing material so it would just be time to have created a more elegant path that may have taken a less direct and steep route. You still have other driveway for utility purposes. I expect you know this, customer is always right- right? Lol. Keep them coming! I enjoy the sped up shorter videos - such instant gratification!
Once it gets surfaced with fine gravel it will be fine. But all vehicles should be 4x4 anyways. 2wd stuff is pointless. There are plenty of hills on the roads.
They are in upper New York i think, they know it snows a bunch and i bet since homwowner has his own skid steer , he can manage to keep drive clean in winter

No compaction? Driving a dozer over this is not enough. A CAT D4 is under 20k pounds and only has a ground pressure of 4-5 psi. That's actually less than a small walk-behind vibratory plate compactor. A small drive on roller type vibratory compactor will generate 3-4 times the compaction that dozer will (12-18 psi).
AndTheCorrectAnswerIs... was thinking same thing plus I would of reduce dug it build back up with decent stone compact it with a 1200 roller then tarmac it with edgings retaining the stone and tarmac 🤔
You would pump all the mud up into the grade the- finish dozer is what you want to use at this point in the grade.. then the next guy puts down some geo grid if he wants to spend the extra money -Then 1 1/2 tb stone and compact . That grade will last forever- 41 yrs operating engineer local 139 (Grading foreman)
Run over your foot with that D4 and you might decide that 4 to 5 psi is plenty of compaction for that base material. Also, the overall psi for the tracks doesnt take into account the force the individual grousers produce or the force when a single large stone is compacted deep into the road bed by half the weight of the dozer, which is several tons.
Ya i was thinking same thing. Seems customer just wanted it pushed thru for now. Homeowners with their own equipment seem to underestimate what its going to take to do it right. That culvert better come in sooner than later or homeowner will regret that water sloshing over his driveway.
@@wpog8453 Agree about the erosion part . Thinking mainly about water flow spilling over the top. Then ice in colder season would crack and break up road.
"I'm pretty sure it needs a battery". Yup. Here's a trick I've done for decades: on older equipment that will be idle for a while I disconnect the positive battery lead(or you can install a disconnect). Old equipment will almost always have a chaffed hot wire somewhere and will draw down even a good battery. Takes a couple of minutes and saves batteries and $$$. Best way is remove the battery and keep it on a trickle charger but that can be a pain in the butt at times.
A VERY GOOD SUGGESTION; A BATTERY CUTOFF,, have seen them on VOLVO & OTHER EQUIPMENT (LETSDIG18)... might be a good / extra measure to prevent theft & possible damage by vandels
I'll bet that cat dozer has a disconnect switch somewhere. However if the battery won't hold a charge, a switch is not going to help. Trickle charger is a great idea but you need to have power somewhere close. Don't they make a solar powered trickle charger?

Nice job Andrew. You couldn’t haul in better base rock. That older D4 is a good cat. Keep up the maintenance like you normally do and it will last you a long time. Easy to work on and no ECM to put you in limp mode and shut-down.
Where did the top soil and all the organic matter go?if you mixed it in the drive way base they will never have a good base.top soil and organics hold moisture.in the winter they freeze and expand,spring time you get frost boils.

Organics and rock don't make a good base. Don't think it's gonna hold up very good. But if that's all you got to work with what can you do.

Nice work. I feel you pain with the battery situation. The two in my E350 7.3 van seemed to go flat, even with a battery maintainer on them. I think there was something wrong with the charger as it's really old... Good thing for the dump, pretty hard to start high compression engines like a diesel, most people don't have a clue. I have to agree - lots of existing material so it would just be time to have created a more elegant path that may have taken a less direct and steep route. You still have other driveway for utility purposes. I expect you know this, customer is always right- right? Lol. Keep them coming! I enjoy the sped up shorter videos - such instant gratification!
The guy lives in upstate ny and has a truck. So do I, and my driveway is way worse. If he can't make it up that hill somethings wrong.

That new driveway is gonna require a 4X4 with any amount of snow. Nice job but I would not abandon the old driveway just yet.
They'll probably geo-fabric and stone. Or pave it.
Once it gets surfaced with fine gravel it will be fine. But all vehicles should be 4x4 anyways. 2wd stuff is pointless. There are plenty of hills on the roads.
They are in upper New York i think, they know it snows a bunch and i bet since homwowner has his own skid steer , he can manage to keep drive clean in winter

Time Table I don’t think he did it yet.
No compaction? Driving a dozer over this is not enough. A CAT D4 is under 20k pounds and only has a ground pressure of 4-5 psi. That's actually less than a small walk-behind vibratory plate compactor. A small drive on roller type vibratory compactor will generate 3-4 times the compaction that dozer will (12-18 psi).

You would pump all the mud up into the grade the- finish dozer is what you want to use at this point in the grade.. then the next guy puts down some geo grid if he wants to spend the extra money -Then 1 1/2 tb stone and compact . That grade will last forever- 41 yrs operating engineer local 139 (Grading foreman)

Run over your foot with that D4 and you might decide that 4 to 5 psi is plenty of compaction for that base material. Also, the overall psi for the tracks doesnt take into account the force the individual grousers produce or the force when a single large stone is compacted deep into the road bed by half the weight of the dozer, which is several tons.

Ya i was thinking same thing. Seems customer just wanted it pushed thru for now. Homeowners with their own equipment seem to underestimate what its going to take to do it right. That culvert better come in sooner than later or homeowner will regret that water sloshing over his driveway.
In rocky soil like that, erosion won't be a big issue.
@@wpog8453 Agree about the erosion part . Thinking mainly about water flow spilling over the top. Then ice in colder season would crack and break up road.
You may want to consider not covering over all of the organics (tree's, stumps, leaf litter) as it will give trouble as it decays,, cool video

Hey andrew, your a good hard working man, I really enjoy all the videos I've seen so far
"I'm pretty sure it needs a battery". Yup. Here's a trick I've done for decades: on older equipment that will be idle for a while I disconnect the positive battery lead(or you can install a disconnect). Old equipment will almost always have a chaffed hot wire somewhere and will draw down even a good battery. Takes a couple of minutes and saves batteries and $$$. Best way is remove the battery and keep it on a trickle charger but that can be a pain in the butt at times.
A VERY GOOD SUGGESTION; A BATTERY CUTOFF,, have seen them on VOLVO & OTHER EQUIPMENT (LETSDIG18)... might be a good / extra measure to prevent theft & possible damage by vandels

Every piece of heavy equipment Ive ever seen has a battery disconnect.
@@verteup I bet the battery disconnect is under the seat, but somewhere in the operators compartment.
I'll bet that cat dozer has a disconnect switch somewhere. However if the battery won't hold a charge, a switch is not going to help. Trickle charger is a great idea but you need to have power somewhere close. Don't they make a solar powered trickle charger?

Nice job Andrew. You couldn’t haul in better base rock. That older D4 is a good cat. Keep up the maintenance like you normally do and it will last you a long time. Easy to work on and no ECM to put you in limp mode and shut-down.

Where did the top soil and all the organic matter go?if you mixed it in the drive way base they will never have a good base.top soil and organics hold moisture.in the winter they freeze and expand,spring time you get frost boils.
Using 'track 7' from quake 2 was epic, and it confused the hell out of me as that's also the ringtone on my phone... Much love and may you continue to kick glorious ass doing your thing :-)
