Fog Sealing over a Chip Seal - The Final Step

- The final step in the Chip & Seal Process processes is the fog sealing. Fog sealing is a light application of a diluted asphalt emulsion, which is heated up to a temperature of approximately 300° Fahrenheit and spread using a distributor truck. The same distributor trucks were used to apply heated liquid asphalt on the roadway surface, followed by a layer of 5/8" and smaller crushed rock chips using a chip spreading machine. To see this process, view my previous video: • Chip Sealing Our Stree... .
It took the Clallam County Road Department over four months, mid-March through mid-August to complete the chip & seal process for resurfacing selected county roads. As luck would have it, the road directly in front of our house was one of them! Having a front-seat view, I documented this multi-stage, meticulously choreographed process up close, to include an invitation to climb aboard a brand-new road surface spray truck! (view my previous video: • Chip Sealing Our Stree... ). Watching the train of vehicles advancing up and down the streets was both impressive and entertaining! What is not depicted in this short video was the inconvenience for us residents - the noise, dust, smells, delays, and cleanup. That said, the result is an awesome resurfaced street right in front of our house and throughout our community!
We live on a dirt road full of potholes and mud puddles in the winter. I’m excited, Our neighborhood is excited for the double chip seal and fog seal. A little less dusty
My road began pretty rough when they came in with a repair crew ... I was excited that my two daughters would be able to ride their bike in the street without fear of falling and scraping their bodies badly. But it turned out to be just a chip and seal. :-( Now that they're done, it's even worse! We went from barely smooth to completely Rocky! Their tires get caught just from turning, and if anyone fell they would seriously get hurt on this. I'm not a fan. But I'd love your video, like your editing, and your narration was great. Thank you.
I don’t like chip and seal road surfaces either because of the rocky, rough surface. And the gravel constantly sheds ending up in our driveway and lawn.
Thank you for your compliment and for visiting my channel!
they seem very professional and respectful, compared to other county road crews.
Good narration Mr Rogers.
Any DIY chemical suggestions for the top coat? My driveway was chip sealed but I didn't get the top layer. I'm pretty sure regular asphalt sealant won't work.
I love this video. And hello to you from Russia.
now imagine falling on this on a amotorcycle or bicycle compared to concrete. This stuff is the definition of road rash, and all the rocks come off over time and fly up and chip all your car paint. 3rd world road repair
You like this?? Now go count all the paint chips in your car, don't forget underneath, where all the rust will start forming. Get any chips in your windshield? Go ride your bike and fall, this stuff will tear your skin, muscles and tendons right off the bones.
If you dont do this then the road breaks up and falls apart causing pot holes and dangerous rutting. You could say well then just rebuild the road but doing this type of maintenance is much more cost effective thus saving tax money.
