  • This is a demonstration of how to read a recovery seed from the Cryptosteel Capsule. This should be used not only for recovering your cryptocurrency wallet, but also to test the recovery process after set-up.
    The Cryptosteel Capsule is an offline, stainless steel recovery device designed to store cryptocurrency recovery seeds. It is fireproof, waterproof, and is strongly resistant to corrosion, shock, and pressure. Cryptosteel is the original steel backup design that started the offline backup market.
    There are no special tools or knowledge needed to use Cryptosteel products. Everything needed for setup is in the box and can be done in 15 minutes.
    Our products are made in the European Union.

    4 letters are enough? i am confused if i have a seed phrase with more letters in a pass word what happens?

    • @Cryptosteel
      @Cryptosteel  Год назад +5

      Good question. Most wallets use something called the BIP39 standard which only requires 4 letters per word. Each word in BIP39 is unique for the first 4 letters and a hardware wallet will understand it. We wrote about how it works on our website here: cryptosteel.com/why-four-letter-words-are-the-standard-for-recovery-seed-backup/

    What happens if the Crypto Steel is stolen? Couldn't someone just open up the Crypto Steel and steal the 24-word phrase?

      Do a Shamir backup on Trezor. Then you need more then one seed and you can have some stolen or lost. I do not recommend to try to thing something creative yourself. You forget it a lose it. You can add passphrase, but that also needs to be backed up the same way as seed.

    If this one day find someon. They may direct open the splint and let fall all out. It would be much better if there is a permament closing solution possible.

      Every Capsule has stainless steel fasteners included which lock the tiles in place. No matter if you open the Capsule upside-down or shake it, the tiles are locked in place.

      @@Cryptosteel Not if its inside the steel capsules! I talk about the case when it is take out from there in hand. The last Lock-Splint who hold all Letter's back! This is high risk, when may a Child or Idiot find this, they would open this splint first and let all letters fall out. Just in mind to check what this is.

    • @Cryptosteel

      @@DeutscherMetzger The fasteners are inside the Capsule. It would require someone to find your hiding place, open it, and bend and remove the steel fastener and then dump it out. This is also why redundancies are useful no matter the system you use - as rare and a freak accident as it may be, having a redundancy is a good option.

      @@Cryptosteel if someone knows what this is, he/she/they will simply take it away to a quiet place, carefully open the device and obtain your 24 seed phrase. Having all 24 words in one single device doesn't make a lot of sense, or I am missing smthg? Thanks

      @@frankjoy2455 Hi,
      You can also try to split the seed into several parts. One of the biggest mistake is this: ruclips.net/video/p5nSibpfHYE/видео.html
      Keep in mind, the degree and scale of your self-custody security depends on the value you are trying to protect. This is why we offer not only SOLO - but also DUO, TRIO, QUINTET options. That way, you can determine how sophisticated your backup solution can be.
