The ZVex Fuzz Factory is one of the earliest pedals invented by Zachary Vex, Mr. Zvex, and continues to be his most popular. It is the heir to the throne of the classic Germanium fuzz boxes of the past, even using New Old Stock Germanium transistors from the sixties. From this basic concept Mr. ZVex went nuts and added an unheard of level of control over all aspects of the tone, including a Gate knob to control noise and tune feedback pitch, Compression control, and a Stability (or "Stab") knob that can send the Zvex Fuzz Factory into delicious squeals and oscillations, opening up a pallete of fresh sounds for any adventurous guitar lunatic. The controls are highly interactive and encourage hours of sonic exploration. The Zvex Fuzz Factory also features a Green On / OFF LED, 9VDC power jack, Lifetime Warranty, and original hand-painted graphics. Each one is totally handmade and unique!
A Few Famous Zvex Fuzz Factory Manglers Include:
* Nels Cline of Wilco
* Matthew Bellamy of Muse
* Robert Fripp
* Steven Drozd and Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips
* John Frusciante of The Red Hot Chili Peppers
* Trent Reznor
* David Torn
* J. Mascis
I've had this for about a month and I've concluded its the best fuzz pedal ever. Everything from starved squelches to fuzz face warmth. Cleans up awesome with the volume no matter the pickup and sounds great pushing a distortion or overdrive
this thing is insane... I love it. You can get every fuzz type of sound out of it that you, after you study it for a year. But it's the only fuzz pedal you ever need.
i got this pedal today and gigged with it...
its the most unique pedal i've heard...
amazing hendrix vintage sound for solos
that Comp knob really fucks up the tone......COOL
This is the Holy Grail of Fuzz pedals today. Also, one of the most unique pedals out there. I have to tell you, I used to hate the fuzz sound, but this one completely converted me and I seriously want one.
Nope, we never use a noise gate. The FF can actually get a gated sound on its own with the right combination of the Gate and Stab controls.
THIS + Analog delay pedal = MAYHEM!!
Hey why all the negative comments on arturo?
It's his opinion of this pedal not yours. Don't give this a negative comment unless you have played both the FG and FF.
I DO think the FG is easier to use. Sound quality is all relative to the player. One pedal is not "better" than the other, they are both made by great pedal makers. Big ups to Zach and Ben. Don't hate - participate.
I just bought a Vexter FF on Ebay partially because of this video....Then I realized that I actually bought it from the folks that made this video....Strange. Gotta support Oregon shops.
they are all very different, all depends on how you wanna sound. I prefer big muffs personally, they are very good for the price, have good sustain and give (in my opinion) the best buzz
He doesn't mention in the video that you can get even more wierd sounds by changing the volume and tone knobs on your guitar. Changing these affects the guitar in a way different than with other fuzz pedals. It will bring out the squeal from the 'stab' knob more or less, depending where you're at.
audio sounds sooooooooooooooo much better on this vid! great job!
Only on certain settings, and a lot of times you actually want that sound. It's called oscillation- Matt Bellamy uses it a lot.
no, it just depends on how you want it to sound. the wah will be a lot more pronounced if you have it after your distortion. If you have it before the distortion, it will be more subtle.
I own one, and yes it does excellently if the 'stab' or stability nob is turned all the way up. If the volume nob is down on your guitar, its like the pedal isnt even there at all. More like an amp with a little compression.
yeah u can take his word for it, i play my guitar through a bass amp when im with my band, it has a hell of a meaty sound when i crank it up, u can easily oscillate all day :)
You, sir, have just convinced me to buy this.
dude, she got YOU the pedal? she's probably a keeper!!
I just watch these videos..because you guys sound awesome.....
i'm building two of them by myself and one of them i want to put directly into a guitar.
just build all the electronics into your guitar and chance the foodswitch to a normal switch and that was it.
have to figure it out for my self first ^^
with a slow phasing this pedal is the shit. brilliant
That is the coolest pedal on the planet.
yes... if you watch the vid "Zvex Fuzz Factory Guitar Pedal" from like :25 to :50 there's an example of it
You can get the Vexter version, which doesn't have a fancy paint job, for about $180. They are the same, they just look different.
I'm gonna try to get the Vexter. :D
I love this pedal, was messing around with it yesterday
Hendrix would have loved this...
@cjaister only thing i can think of is if your using a power supply get an isolated ground suply like voodoo labs power plus 2. If it's making tons of noise on 9v batteries then get a killswitch or something similar for when you are'nt playing.
@butterscotchtele same here its got a variety in sounds but i cant say that i like any of them
@MrJaack it's true bypass. the non-painted versions are the same circuit, just less love went into making them so they price them lower. I've never used mine on stage (too unpredictable in the range of sounds I love most from my Fuzz Factory) but OH MAN it is fun in the studio. My favorite tone matching so far with it is a 2x10" Vox cabinet fueled by a Dr. Z Carmen Ghia, playing a lipstick equipped Silvertone beater guitar.
I have a dual overdrive pedal the BB plus and I use it incombination with the hardwire valve distortion, so I'm capable to get a lot of diferent drives, so I thin will be the same with your Jekyl and the fuzz factory.
you came so close to Crossroads! love it!
I like it... it's either this one or the Barbara Fuzz
Holy!!!!! I love this one :o i didn't knew of it existance :o:o WOOOW
Love it
grtz
What's the size of this pedal?
Qual é o tamanho desse pedal?
EH has always used the cheapest parts available so the variation between big muffs is huge. Some are so so, and some are like a nuclear explosion coming from your amp. Faces are one trick ponies. The factory is sort of an all over the map face.
SO COOL. Makes your guitar sound like an Atari.
Ok... so else is here to hear Plug in baby?
@RobotequeMusic Sounds great with the slide!
I think its smarter to put it first sense its a filter effect, it works alot better before the distortion if you dont want to put it first because your distortion can sometimes work as a compressor
Yeah sounds awesome. Similar to Fuzzgod 2 but more controlable. I think I'd have to go with the Fuzzprobe version though, it's exactly the same pedal with a metal pad that works like a theremin
@ChrisieBear14 when the stab is turned all the way to the right you should get no ossilation.
im totaly gonna pick one of these up some day... and now that i found that ZVex is based in MN (where I live) im For shure gonna pick one of these bad boys up!!! ( I need a job haha)
Great pedal and a very useful vid...as usual...but I can´t buy all the pedals you review...yet certainly this one. Thx a lot.
DAMN! O_O. . . .this pedal could physically melt faces XD
Sounds amazing.
imagine hendrix in 2008 with this pedal...
the search for the holy grail would be over.
xD
@ChrisieBear14 raise the stability if that fails check the battery and so so
@pype719 listen to both and decide. its all about taste.
thats a pretty big range of pedal prices. I take it price isnt an issue?
it all depends on what you want in a pedal. The fuzzface gives you a very original sound and the re-issues sound rather good, the zvex is very good for recording but rather unstable live and its tones change dramatically depending on your guitar and amp choices, as well as volume of the amp and so on. The big muff is the cheapest and best all rounder. sounds like more of a distortion in comparison and is more useful live
I got one today.
Sounds amazing but has to do more test.
i don't know if i should buy this one or the fender blender
Both!
65 amp soho, 65 amps are a company that make superb amps
@BiffyEllis Might aswell go with the Big Muff since it's cheaper and the actual Pedal he uses.
i am so getting one of these
the god of a pedalboard
yep I think that Matt Bellamy turns the FF on at 1:06, where he also uses the whammy bar...at least live...
does this thing make a lot of noise and hum? i have a big muff and that thing just makes sooooo much noise.
Fantastic pedal, but they don't oscillate if you are using a wireless system - that's why Matt Bellamy has his built in to the guitar.
this might have been asked before, but is there a difference between this one and the vexter series ?
to me this one sounds clearer and not as muddy, but perhaps that is just me.
thanks for your help
also this or the box of rock ?
really?
i always thought that the fuzz factory made a lot of noise when youre not playing. thats good info. thank you.
@023132 John uses a Big Muff for his more fuzzy sounding stuff i think. He did on the Stadium Arcadium album anyways.
@HalfBillion
You are a demi-god! Respect
is the fuzz factory what john frusciante uses in scar tissue solos???? or does he use something else??
if anyone knows, it would really help me out
It depends where you position it. (Before or after Wah)
What other pedals are used with this demonstration? Noise suppression, noise gate, respond if you can ProGuitar?
If I want some Hendrix tones should I get this or something else?
@BiffyEllis yeah man so would my pedals but these are waaaaaaaay better. I make ppedals as well
Well this video is nearly 5 years old...
love not hate.
correct me if i'm wrong but hasn't matt bellemy built one of these into one of his guitars?
Do you have option for using power supply on this? Or only battery?
Hendrix would have loved this pedal
This sound coming out of these speakers doesn't do this justice. Play one yourself and you'll understand.
That's what im planing to do:)
Hey,what's that kickass intro song ? i know you heard it a million times but it's hard to find it with you having 740 videos ;P
Sick awesome.. reminds me of Muse!
I've only tried this fuckin' pedal in a guitar shop in Haight St, and then I fell in love with it, can't wait to get one.
What is the difference between this pedal and the vexter series fuzz factory?
yeah if you look above the guitar input jack bud :o)
I have a question, for the weirder sounding fuzz like the one at 4:21 is it still as loud as if you were playing it straight without the pedal? Like would it drastically affect the volume and with a powerful enough amp could it cut through the mix of a live 3 piece band? I love the sound of that "Velcro fuzz" but I don't wanna hit the pedal for a solo then be totally drown out. Thanks
@spirallinglight on bellamys doesnt he just have gate and stab on the front and the rest are on the back or something like that?
4:02 ITS GOIN TO BLOWWW!!!
hey Andy would this pedal oscillate if a wah was put in front of it?
Thanks!
hey good 4 u man!
do you'll ship to India?
what should i buy big muff, zvex or fuzzface??
btw what's the difference between Vexter Series and this one ? I've got Vexter Series one and i like it alot and i'm wondering what is this one like.
Does Stephen Carpenter (From Deftones) use this pedal?
zelcro fuzz sounds like a bee :3
Plug in baby right here
where do you get fender blenders? I can't find them anywhere
does it have true bypass? and is there a sound difference bettween this on eand the non custom painted?
is there any way to turn off the oscilations?
Would this pedal be good for Jack White stuff?
question(which might have been answered already, but i can't be arsed to scroll down :p) ...will this pedal clean up if i back off the guitar's volume knob? fender strat to be exact...if so, i might buy this within the week...let me know, cheers :)
Holy Fucking Shit, I seriously want this thing! This and a fulltone tape delay and you ha
Jezus, I just finished building this thing...this is a seriously f*cked up pedal :)) haha, it's a fuzz/octave up/random number generator/touch responsive/8bit/drone thingie. I love it.
i have a fuzz factory,sound amazing..but its hard to control the tone and i think to buy a EQ pedal for my ff. what is the best EQ pedal suit to ff?
Sounds like a great pedal to piss off the neighbors with.
