I don't really know if you'll respond as its been two years but when you subbed 5 as X, does it matter what you sub exactly? Like if I just decided instead of y=1/4(5)+b I wanted it to be using -3 (The X of A) so y=1/4(-3)+b would this matter since instead we should be using the x of the midpoint or is there no real deep meaning? (Just curious I know both of them make different answers just would like to know for future reference thank you)
Don't mean to be rude but just for anybody who caught this too, You messed up, it's 5/4 - 1, not 1 - 5/4 because the 5/4 was already on the right and you're transferring the 1. So now you have an answer that is negative when it should be positive
The point is (5,1) being subbed into y=(1/4)x+b. Here x=5 and y=1. Therefore we have 1=(5/4)+b. Isolating for b we have 1-(5/4)=-1/4. Check out my algebra tutorial for some practice!
Thanks sir ❤

Hi, you can sub in either point on the line so point A (you asked) or the midpoint of BC (I used), Both will yield the same answer. check it out!
Thank you so much, I will check it out tomorrow when I do some studying and such!@@MathTurtle
Thanks. Got a test in a bit
Glad it helped!
