Pittsburgh is one of those cities that never is a flashy tourist spot, but look at the cities that HAVE been tourist spots in recent decades (San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Denver, etc.). All those cities have gone way downhill recently with homelessness, massive drug encampments, etc. Pittsburgh just sort of flies under the radar as a quality mid-sized city that has just sort of casually improved its downtown over 40 years into a very high quality city that pleasantly surprises almost everyone.
I’ve lived in Detroit my whole life, so I’m not let down by the other cities I visit on vacation. Trust me, Pittsburgh’s not bad, not bad at all. I’m actually thinking about moving there lol.
@@BenSussmanpro when I was much younger in my 30s (59 now) and walking on Grant Street in downtown Pittsburgh and a guy from Philly came up to me and told me that Pittsburgh is a very clean city. I lived elsewhere (Baltimore & DC) in the 1980s and came back home. The people in Pittsburgh are way more friendly than its stuck up suburbs. Only reason I rarely go to city because I work grocery retail FT and want less people so I go to state parks. I’m in the suburbs because I live in a 100 year old house that my coal miner great grandfather owned.
I lived in Pittsburgh for a year helping a friend rehab a 110 home in Beach view it's about 4 miles south of the city. I would take the trolley in to the city and explore. It's a great city and the people where all friendly. Good times.

Lived here for 32 years. Moved here in 1992 age of 21 haven't left. Great city! Construction going on all over still being remade. Pittsburgh area still has steel too.
Glad to see Nicholas Coffee is still in business in Market Square. Im a 59 yr old and miss Kaufmann's, Gimbel's and Hornes. I could drive to Pittsburgh easily as im a suburb of city in allegheny county but ill wait until warmer weather gets here. I know all the places you drove around as i commuted for 20 to have a job in this city. So much construction and one way traffic.
Downtown was my spot to shop and hang out with friends back in the 80's. It had clothing and shoe stores along 5th Ave. Dept stores Hornes, Kaufmann's and Sax Fifth Ave if you could afford them. Lerner's, GC Murphy, Woolworth, Gap, and many more I've forgotten about. I miss those days.
I'm from Richmond VA I love Richmond I really do but I'm falling in love with Pittsburgh watching this video it seems like my kind of city how's the cost of living there these videos are drawing me to Pittsburgh is it as nice as it appears?
Pittsburgh really has such a cool vibe..I lived there for 3 years, worked at Kaufmann’s department store downtown. I remember the streets were so full of life, street vendors selling hot pretzels, flowers like a little NYC and the people were SO friendly. I live in Cleveland Ohio now. I really miss Pittsburgh. Visit if you have a chance ♥️
Dont let this fool you, I'm not sure what day and time this is, it looks like a Saturday morning but I've been to Buffalo a few times and Pittsburgh has more traffic
We need 3 more baseball division stadium and teams in Pittsburgh pa & central Williamsport pa suburbs of 3 new clubs to add to the American league division race and national league
Hardly any of the stores in Market Square were there in the 90s. Everything retail/food is different. Overall, a lot less pedestrian traffic and small retail, but a lot less sketchy as well. Kaufmans is a big loss.
@@HusseinDoha It was a large Department store in Pittsburgh founded by the Kaufman family. It was a Pittsburgh landmark and people often met for events under the iconic outdoor clock.
@@marial8235 Alright! Thank you. I’m visiting the US for the second time (first time was in August -all nine days in Las Vegas 👍). Now I’m looking for two weeks in April, in a safe city that’s quite populated. Pittsburgh ticks these box, but I’m afraid of the weather, and I also would love to spend time with American family in their home. I’m paying of course. If you can help me in any way, don’t hesitate! I will also rent a car and just drive aimlessly around the city and visit nearby towns. A big American adventure!🫡
@@marial8235I remember Kaufman’s from my visits in the 1970s. Most of the great department stores in the major cities (many founded by Jewish immigrants) have closed, like Wanamakers in Philly.
How sad, at one time as U was growing up those sidewalks would be packed with peoole. It was a very busy city. Even lots of traffic. It didn't matter what tie. Now all he stores are gone, most of the eating place. Yo found it on a clean day. From what I'm told it really isn't hat great to go tianmore.
Depends on the time of day. Weekends are much less crowded like this. That said, most mid-sized cities have seen a big drop off in people doing business and therefore pedestrian traffic in the cities has declined. Even Philly is nowhere near as busy and bustling as it used to be. San Fran is essentially a ghost town now too. Most businesses have downsized their city footprint and moved to cheaper, more suburban locations. Why would you miss the congestion and filth that comes with more people and traffic anyway? Should they bring the smog back too?
@@stevenbeall9637 It's just a shame that people can't experience those stores that were. Especially the windows at Christmas. But times do change. Personally I don't go to the city as an older person. but, I have many good memories growing up with the old Pittsburgh. When I was a child the Point had no fountain or anything like it is. Just land and a fort.

Philadelphia gets all the attention.
It is nice, especially compared to the ‘70s when it was smog-choked. But it’s a fishbowl downtown, so scram for higher ground when it rains lol
