My biggest hurdle to reading Farsi has always been to decide whether to add an إ (é), أ (a) or the small و (o) to words. Examples: Lesson, درس Does it read dérs, dors or dars ? Of course, it’s dars, but unless I had heard that word before I would not know. But خرس reads Khers. قرص reads ghors. 🤷🏻♂️ And تهران Tohrân ? Tahrân ? Na bâbâ, it’s Téhrân !😂 Salt نمک . Nomék ? Namék ? Namok ?😂, Boro bâbâ, namake digeh ! (Are there still pofak namakis in Iran ?) As a foreigner in Iran, I just got by on spoken Farsi (with a Euro accent 😅).
Oh yeah, I totally agree. And then there are the words that are spelled the same but pronounced differently, like کشتی, which can be keshti or koshti. If it makes you feel better, a few years ago, I took a road trip with a friend. On the way, we passed all these tiny towns and villages that you'd never hear of unless you were passing through them. At one point, I mentioned that if you just looked at the Persian, the names of these towns could be pronounced many different ways, so I looked at the Romanized names to see how they were pronounced. My friend admitted he did the same! 😄 And yes, there's still pofak namaki- a lot of variety, but I'm still partial to the original 😅
3:39 هوام (my air, weather) refers to mood in this sentence I take it. Is this usage similar to the phrase هوات را دارم? (I support you, I have your back) Thanks again for your help.😊
