Compete with what? An unproven, injury-prone backup, a 3rd-string QB with no experience and an in-coming freshman. He'd win that competition w/o much of a problem, but he wanted to be assured of the starting spot in 2024. Day couldn't say for certain that he'd be the starter next season, he had to compete for the starting QB position, so he bolted to Syracuse. In today's college football, nothing is handed to you! He will play with far lesser talent than he had at Ohio State and because their schedule is so soft, even a single loss may keep them out of the playoffs. Now its possible that he is looking at that soft schedule thinking he can put up massive passing yards next year and improve his draft stock.

The issue with McCord was that he could not go down his progressions, and times nothing. He was long ball. At Ohio State, he had the receiver to do well at long ball, but Day wants his quarterbacks to time short passes and go down progressions and keep those defenses honest. So, McCord's DAD, apparently, wanted Day to say that his son was guaranteed the stop spot. Well, Day is looking at a 5-star coming in, Brown neck and neck in competition and a red-shirt who was MVP in the HS all-star game. If any of those figures out how to play the game correctly and go through progressions with decent accuracy, he's going to move away from McCord. This isn't to say that McCord isn't a solid A- quarterback, but Ohio State is not good for an A- quarterback who is not fully utilizing three deep 4-5 star receivers and the best receiver coach in America. I don't think McCord has hit a timed pass the whole season. He'll to great at Syracuse. I mean, look at Syracuse. It's impossible to not make Syracuse better. They were utterly embarrassed in their bowl game with zero offense. So, good for McCord and daddy, but Ryan Day does not need DADDY. Day wasn't outsmarted. He was fed up. Want proof. Look at Day's win-loss record. Best in America, particularly when you talk about the passing game.
Now, for the exception: The comment about Ohio State not being a playoff team next year is premature. In fact, Ohio State is young across the board, this year. The only big losses are QB and LB. Otherwise, they have lost a lot of 2nd and 3rd string players to the transfer portal, which will likely make them stronger because they were clearing out the covid bubble. Just look at this QB issue, for example: They bring in the #1 QB prospect in the nation and the #1 receiver in the nation, and the drag on this is they lost a QB? Really? Nobody at Ohio State cares. Ryan Day didn't even offer an invite from the QB transfer portal, and nobody knows the situation as well as him, nor does anybody coach QBs better than him. I'll leave it at that. See ya next year.

Kyle McCord will be a great fit for them, no competition and a very easy schedule. As for Kyle leaving because he knew he stood a better chance to get to the playoffs is a joke. 12 team playoff in 2024 opens the door for a lot more and Ohio State or Michigan wouldn't have the one game elimination rivalry anymore so that statement is weak at best. As an OSU fan, the information is the other players are mostly going to play in the bowl game. And are happy with next qb up. Devon Brown. Just maybe McCord left because Day told him he would have to beat out Brown again to be the starter. During a lot of camp last yr Brown was fighting thru early injuries.
I’m curious to see how you evaluate Brown in the Cotton Bowl. And with a 12 team playoff next yr there will be plenty of early teams out that have to play away games. But that’s why us college football fans watch. It’s all reality tv at it’s finest.

Mccord ended up where he belongs at a no name college with his no name. He left ohio state because him and his daddy wanted guaranteed starter position then was ready for Nebraska but then they got someone better. Ill never watch this channel again know wonder you cant get that 310 subs your looking for and honestly tired of your beating around the bush to get to the point. If your not sick of his high school videos put on repeat you are just as bad.

SU used to be a BIG college football program. Things changed and all the energy switched to Boeheim and the basketball program. But with Fran as the new head coach and McCord at QB... it isn't out of the realm of possibility that they bring attention back to the program like Donovan Mcnabb did when he played there. When Mcnabb was with them bowl bids were ALWAYS on the radar and they've won 5 conference titles since 91'. So needless to say, Syracuse football CAN come back... they just need a spark and I believe McCord believes he can be the one to do that along with Fran. Not every program can be OSU or Alabama... some schools (like SU) have to work harder to recruit but when they do they make the most of it.

My two thoughts, one the ACC getting rid of divisions has watered down the ACC regular season scheudle for a ton of teams. If they kept divisions FSU would have faced Louisville and NC State in the regular season. If they kept divisions Syracuse would be facing Florida State and Clemson.
    2. Ohio State did luck out this year but an improved Nebraska and Wisconsin team could be challenging.

Kyle McCord is not a great QB... he had a horrible game against Michigan and pretty much needs a quarter of play to get warm. Even Stroud had a good game against Michigan with Ryan Day holding back the Ohio State offense not the play of the QB. Stroud did throw 2 interceptions like McCord, but he also threw for 349 and ran when needed against Michigan.

You couldn't be more wrong about Kyle McCord winning 11 games. If defenses held onto VERY easily intercepted passes, they would have lost to ND too and MAYBE Penn St. Ohio St. won because they were vastly more talented at EVERY skill position and the defense balled out. In the UM game alone, Kyle made very large mistakes on 11 of his 30 pass attempts. His Dad is a cancer to a locker room. I am a Buckeye fan and I am happy to see his Dad leave. Kyle from all accounts is a VERY good person and I wish him luck.
