I don’t think shinnies show up too frequently. I didn’t want to shiny hunt before legends Arceus and S/V but because of them showing up in the overworld and being easier to find it’s actually fun to shiny hunt and you still get the dopamine when I find one. I actually really enjoy getting a few shines naturally

I think a person's stance really depends on their relationship with shinies. Anybody who has spent hours chain hunting in earlier gens will call it easy, but those of us who didn't shiny hunt in the past are just happy we can ACTUALLY find them without astronomical luck.

My thoughts are that they could add a new mechanic that works similarly, but works in tandem with shinier, so it would be much rarer to solve the issue (sort of like the authentic sinistea, only for more pokemon). If I'm gonna be honest, I actually wish shinies were more common. Shiney hunting, especially in older games, can be an extremely tedious process, and a pokemon being a different color is honestly a pretty underwhelming reward. There are a few that look cool enough to be worth it, but a lot are either underwhelming, or just bad. Why would I want a pokemon that looks worse than its original form? Just because it's rare? Getting struck by lightning is rare too, doesn't mean I want it.
At this point, shinies are just a preference, and one that's very annoying to get.

I've played a few turn-based RPGs, and the Pokemon battle system doesn't strike me as especially simple. It seems to me that the battle system is a complicated as you make it, you can brute-force it, give your Pokemon a bunch of high-power attacking moves, or you can finesse it, building a stall team.

    • @RoninCatholic
      @RoninCatholic 8 месяцев назад +3

Pokemon's battle system in a singles format is simpler than almost all turn-based RPGs aside from the very first Dragon Quest or the ancient archaic ancestors in PC dungeon crawlers of the early 80s. Doubles is about as complicated as a typical Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy game would be if those didn't just have new abilities explode in number and remain permanently open options, and the move slot and equip slot constraints in particular make it interesting.
The actual in-game playthroughs of a given Pokemon title will only touch on 1% or so of the game's actual battle mechanics, which can be interesting and nuanced, unless a player actively seeks out sub-optimal strategies just to see what they're like. The _best_ option in Pokemon single player is always just to have high speed and a high attack stat (physical or special, doesn't matter), then hit the enemy with a move that isn't resisted or immune. Why set up to beat the enemy in one hit when you can just beat it in two regular hits? Or better yet, as you usually will, one regular hit. Setup moves in single player are for self-imposed challenge runs where you're trying to win with an underleveled individual and/or weak specie.
A fully realized campaign that had actual reason to use setup or status moves? Opponents with even basic team building skills? A plot that genuinely escalated and had twists and turns without being telegraphed to absurdity? The _building blocks_ of such a thing have been in place since Gen 1 and never actually followed through on, though Gen 5 came close in places.
Pokemon certainly has a lot of complicated battle mechanics in it, but almost all of them only matter when doing multiplayer battles against another human player.

I think a good idea would be to have the Legendary or Mythical in-game but have to complete some task to get it.
Ex. being in Pokemon Colosseum you had to battle all 100 trainers in Mt. Battle (apparently without switching out any of your team members) and you finally get rewarded with Ho-oh at the end.
That way people don't have to worry about missing out on an event but you get a feeling of satisfaction of having earned the legendary. (Bonus: think of how much closer to your Pokemon you'll be when the team you took with you to defeat 100 trainers will feel?😊)

Rather than shinies being too easy to find, it's more the entry criteria has lowered. Since you now just have overworld spawns, the modern encounter style speeds up your rolls. You get 10-16 encounters at once, rather than running back and forth for a couple seconds for a single encounter. There are still ways to get the super difficult feeling if you are the type that wants the grind, like egg hunting and just not getting the shiny charm for instance.

Im a big dnd nerd, and everytime they put out a book that has 2 pages of content and the rest is filled with "yeah here are some ideas for the dm to flesh out", Im gonna complain and not buy anything until the quality is fixed. If silksong comes out and its barely functional, Id be upset and talk about how its a massive let down. If ultrakill dropped the ball and suddenly became shit, you bet your ass Im gonna complain.

I think the main issue is that they judge the entire game based on the graphics and performance, when there’s clearly so much more to the game
And the ‘so much more’ part is also what makes scarlet and violet amazing games imo, it’s one of the best games I’ve played performance aside

@Tierd i think performance is a thing that is fair to be judgemental of, I dont care about graphics but if a game has bugs and freezes thats gonna make the game feel worse. Ultrakill and hollowknight are my favorite games, but if hitboxes were all wrong and the game froze whenever there was a shockwave Id probably think much lesser of both.
And any criticism I would apply to indie games goes triple for AAA games.
Theres also Id say "stylized low graphics" and "poorly done graphics". To use the same examples, Ultrakill has far less polygons than any 3d pokemon game, but the "waving hands like youre powering up a super saiyan form while explaining something" motion is worse than Gabriel's "ENOUGH" motion. Because one is stylized to look like that intentionally and the other is like that because of time cuts.

Okay, two takes from this video.
    1. The Physical/Special split was a great idea, but it was implemented kinda poorly. To this day we don't have good physical electric stab and mons like banette got shafted incredibly hard. Heck, even gengar which got its stab moves wishes it could use the elemental punches like it used to so it could be more creative. If it was implemented with account for these mons, it would be great. Still overall positive change that was needed, but it ain't all sunshine.
    2. I think shiny pokemon are alright right now because they still are difficult to find unless you specifically look for them, which is fine by me. The normal rate is still 1/4096, so that is incredibly low. You can get them to high odds, but you have to have the resources to do it, which means you are trying to get shinies. I can see why it might be disheartening, but I think it is for the best because not everybody wants to spend hours getting one. You can easily go back to older games if you don't like it and that for me is perfect if you want a quick or long hunt.
    Still, love the video.

My fav shiny in this game is the Noibat I got with the Masuda method before I even went to the academia. The odds were awful but I got her in less than a 100 eggs so I was so happy.

The only take I really disagreed with was Tasty’s take on adding Physical/Special split to older Gen rom hacks. I mean, if you’re playing a rom hack, you’re going in expecting a different experience. Otherwise, why play a rom hack if you don’t want newer Pokémon or mechanics that didn’t exist then added to the game? It’s essentially the Futurama What If Machine, but in game form. And not wanting those mechanics added after you opted in to play it is like that SpongeBob bit about the kid who didn’t want pistachio ice cream.
Like, I do agree the older games not having it makes them feel special, and that changing it would throw off anyone, but if I’m playing a rom hack, I’m expecting changes.
As for Shinies, I don’t think they’re too easy to find, but I can see the argument. Like, for starters, if you’re speaking from a Shiny hunter’s perspective, they can be super easy… but that’s usually due in large part to method hunts that you have to actively engage in TO make it easy. Like, sure, they lowered the base odds, but that’s still a 1 in 4000 chance of finding one without any modifiers. Add in the Shiny Charm which takes a lot of work, or method hunts, and it can be easier, but it can also be just as long a process.
I do a lot of Masuda Method hunting, which is breeding Pokémon from different countries to increase your odds. I had a Poltchageist I hunted in Scarlet with Masuda Method. It took me 4,130 eggs, when the odds of a Shiny through Masuda Method are 1 in 512 with the Shiny Charm, and the base odds are 1 in 4,096. So it took me longer than BASE odds with a method hunt, which is super ridiculous. And it’s not the first time I’ve had luck that bad.
On the other hand, I’ve gotten Shinies as fast as 2-3 eggs before, very rarely, so Shinies CAN be too easy to find… but really, they’re only as easy as you make them. And even then, you can just get that bad of RNG even with all the methods and boosts to the Shiny odds.
A similar point I’ve seen is defending the lack of audio or visual cues in Scarlet and Violet, and I just CANNOT agree on that one. Like, the only point I will concede is the game was developed alongside Legends Arceus, so they probably couldn’t have known about that change Legends was making. But with how small some Pokémon sprites are and how subtle some Shinies are, the challenge has always been about rolling the dice, not identifying the Shiny.
So yeah, can’t exactly disagree on Shinies being too easy, but I also can’t fully agree. I do see both sides to that one. Like, XY were the first games for people to look at and say they’re super easy to find. Never found a Shiny I didn’t actively hunt for in Gen 6 period for a decade. It’s all a matter of RNG.

Critical hits are fun and definitely should remain as a core part of the game, but could be handled so much better.
The current system is leagues better than the Gen 1 base Speed reliant system, but when "high crit chance" moves like Night Slash only give an 8% increase to crit chance (~4% to ~12%) while being barely stronger than a boosted Knock Off (which also removes the opponent's item) _even when_ scoring a crit, then you know something is wrong.
So high crit chance moves should be amped in base power, maybe to 80 would be fine, and the crit stage boosts should be buffed as well (stage 1 could be 33%, stage 2 could be 66%, and stage 3 could remain as guaranteed crits). And on the flip side, defense boosts should offer _something_ against crits instead of being completely ignored. Obviously, the boosts should still be reduced from the normal amount to prevent Cosmic Power cheese and the like from going crazy, but something like +1 defense being a 1.1x boost, +2 defense being a 1.2x boost, etc could give more usage to moves like Amnesia, Bulk Up, and Calm Mind without keeping them as cheese or nothing moves due to the chance of a rogue 4% chance erasing multiple turns of setup. IMO, the stat stage boosts themselves could also use an overhaul, being more effective at earlier stages and weaker at later stages to let +1 boosting moves like Work Up and Hone Claws shine, but that's a whole other topic.

I think pokemon just need to experiments with changes a lot more. Getting rid of critical hits may actually work if they compliment it with more changes, like reducing the stat raise cap and adding moves that ignores such stats raise with the drawback of being less stronger, like a 75 base power flamethrower that ignores special defense raise. I think status too can benefit from such changes too, like instead of some moves like ice beam having that freeze chance relying on probability, it instead relies on how many consecutives ice beam you land. Like you take 3 ice beams in consecutive turns and you get frozen. I know these are drastic changes and that rng is part of what makes pokemon it's own thing, but i don't think the game wouldn't benefit from trying new things to shape the battle formula.

I’ve long been a critical hit hater; in my opinion they don’t need to do extra damage on their own. They can ignore stat drops and return an attack to its usual damage, that’s a balanced way to get around bulky setup ‘Mons, but to suddenly do extra damage is an unfun mechanic that doesn’t take skill or planning. In fact, you often have to plan around them

Despite what AAA games will tell you to justify their lack of new features and gutting of old with each successive game, graphics are not the same thing as performance, or content. Scarlet and Violet had and continue to have rendering/loading issues and crashes on par with (or, arguably, even worse than) Bethesda titles, and fewer and fewer people are giving that slouching giant any mercy. The code is spaghetti, the supposedly future-proof 3D sprites continue to confound the developers, and the studio has developed a reputation for having a revolving door - either kicking out coders who did most of the work and subsequently being unable to deal with what they made, or relying on contractors (whom they treat like garbage, apparently even worse than most contractors are treated in Japan) and the same thing happening where they can't build on what the contractor designed.
The games are groaning under the weight of a supposedly AAA studio with budget and schedules assigned to it that would be better suited to an indie project released on Steam for twenty bucks. If you release a console game for console prices and it performs worse than a handheld game, you already have serious problems.

Pokemon has such great battle system there is a competive scene which is the only one of its kind and as someone who loved the indigo disk and found it challanging the battle mechanics really shined. Even comparing to other rpgs on the switch like xenoblade chronicles 2 both are held back by switch graphics I would argue Pokemon scarlet was more fun for me at least battle system wise

I am an avid competitive player and I feel like the physical special split wasn't nearly as accounted for as it should have been when they actually did it. A lot of moves that were common coverage for special attackers like the elemental punches and all dark moves became physical in the split, and inadvertently made typing in battle a lot more about Same Type Attack Bonus since Gengar no longer had to use a wide coverage pool and only needed to care about hitting hard on the things it can hurt or KO, gaining special ghost and poison moves but losing basically everything else it had

Yeah I really don’t think you were cooking with that last one, and this is coming from someone who actually somewhat enjoyed playing Scarlet.
I’ve been having fun playing my mono-poison run of the game, but even I can acknowledge it has some embrassingly noticeable flaws, flaws that really shouldn’t be present in an AAA game. The game’s been out for over a year now and framerate drops are still a constant issue, models will regularly just clip through eachother, and I experienced a good handful of crashes and issues with saving as well.
This mantra of ‘criticism=toxicity’ is what leads companies to think they can just continue to cut corners, because the fans will just eat their slop and shout down anyone who says they don’t like it. I don’t doubt there’s been a bit of bad-faith criticism directed at the games, but nine times out of ten, this criticism is coming from people who are passionate about the franchise and know the games can be better if they just have more time and effort put into them.
Also not sure what was up with that jab at people wanting to wait to play the games on a more powerful console so it runs better, like, that’s a perfectly reasonable thing to do genuinely what’s the issue here.

I think the main problems with shiny Pokémon is that it made certain ways to encounter shinies way easier, especially those used be people who are specifically hunting for them. The odds being boosted to 4096 a while back plus the amount of over world Pokémon are great for casual players who don’t hunt to actually be able to find a couple across a play thru. However with things like sandwiches it makes actually hunting for them stupidly easy for those that know what they’re doing. If they just got rid of those types of hunting methods and got rid of shiny locking to allow hunters to do old fashion soft resetting for legendaries this wouldn’t even be a debate.

Pokémon doesn't give other turn based RPGs a bad name, because it can't. It shouldn't be a genre anymore as it's not nearly distinct enough to start making comparisons based off this one mechanic alone. A decade or two ago turn based RPGs was a feature that could define a game on it's own, nowadays it's just one mechanic out of possibly hundreds if not thousands that you can choose to put into your game as a developer.
Pokémon doesn't give other turn based RPGs a bad name, just like Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't make Final Fantasy or Persona 5 look bad. It doesn't make sense.

If we are here to talking about hot takes, here’s mine.
Gen 4 (not counting spin off games) are my least favourite Pokémon generation despite how important they are for the series in the long run.
Too many HMs, lack of variety of actual good and exciting Pokemon (even in platinum), the game in general being sooo slow and the game’s postgame did nothing for me.
Even HGSS, I could never finish a second playthough cause playing it just feels so awful, especially with how they didn’t really fix any major issues that I had with the original. As for platinum, I was only looking forward towards the distortion world and was so disappointed that it end up being nothing but another HM puzzle.
If Gen 4 didn’t have so many spin off games that were such bangers, I probably would have left the series completely before Gen 5 came out which would suck cause Gen 5 basically saved the DS era of mainline Pokémon for me.

Personally I care way less about Shiny mons now that we have Marks. For me, shinies were just a way to make your individual mons stand out a little more, but there's so many different titles your mon could have whereas there's only one shiny form they would have. Though nothing will top Stadium's weird little feature where your mons' nickname of all things would give it an ever-so slightly tweaked palette.
Pokemon is unmistakably an RPG for beginners. And with how varied the wild encounters are in the more modern games, it'll be as easy or as hard as you allow it to be. Box your starter, rotate your team more often. But if you still need more of a challenge, play Shin Megami Tensei or Digimon Story or Monster Hunter Stories instead. Claiming Pokemon "gives turn-based RPGs a bad name" because it's easy is like claiming Kirby gives platformers a bad name because you can just float over all the difficult platforming challenges. Just don't use any optional mechanics that would make the game easier. These clickbaity video game articles with hyperbolic takes, man. Sheesh!
My unpopular take is that the gyms and dungeons are the worst aspect of mainline Pokemon. Even when trying to make the game more of a challenge I still find those monotype bosses to be too easy to steamroll, and for every abandoned building, ruins, or temple, there's several caves and foresty areas that don't even try to stand out from the other dozens of caves and foresty areas in the series. Scar/Vi having no real dungeons at all (save for I guess Deep Area Zero) was like throwing the baby out with the bathwater though.
Also here's an even more insane take: You know how the modern games' friendship mechanic will give max friendship mons an increased crit ratio, increased evasion, a chance of healing from status ailments, and a chance of enduring hits? I want champion & rival battles where the opponent's team has those mechanics as well!

While there is a "shiny hunting" community out there, I think the game developers could make shinies a cooler part of the game - like the Red Gyarados or even a New Game+ experience where one new random Pokemon will be guaranteed shiny the first time you meet it (hopefully after you get Pokeballs) every time you New Game+.

I do think that shinies have become too easy to find, but with the nuance that the game has implemented so many ways for players to opt-in to finding them. On top of the Shiny Charm, which the game will give you once you complete the Pokedex, players in Gen 9 can choose to lower their odds to 1/512 by using outbreaks and Shiny Power sandwiches. While all these systems being opt-in (apart from the Shiny Charm) is a fine way to do it, I think that it severely devalues finding shines and makes having a shiny less meaningful. It would be way better and show more dedication from the player if the odds were permanently 1/4096.
My real radical take on shiny Pokemon is that I don't think they should have ever been implemented back in Gen 2. I think by adding them Game Freak set themselves up for the situation they're in now where people want them so badly they have to add systems to make them easier to find so that everyone can get as many sparkly things as possible.

@@shepskydad Conceptually it's a neat idea, I just think it wasn't implemented in a healthy way because of how people tend to assign value to things. The idea of a super-rare alternate color for something is really cool as a trophy. As the games have progressed and training/fixing a suboptimal wild shiny has become so much easier, shinies have stopped being trophies and become just another coat of paint on the same thing that takes a marginally longer period of time to obtain. It's even to the point where some people aren't catching any of the normal palettes for their teams because it's just that easy to get the shiny now, rolling up to competitive tournaments with everything shining that can be made shiny. I feel like it would be a lot better if the shinies stayed exclusively as trophies for people willing to put in a grind rather than being something that is realistic to use in average gameplay.

I hate how people have hard focused on graphics since the transition to 3D, yet also treat Gen 3 and 4 like the Holy Grail of the series.
AAA graphics aren't important, especially for a turn-based RPG that has never been ahead of the pack in terms of graphics (Gen 5, the generation featuring the peak of 2D graphics in the franchise, barely had better graphics than Paper Mario imo; a game released by Nintendo 10 whole years prior). All the extreme focus on graphics does is cut time, resources, and file space away from other parts of the game. Like, you know, the core gameplay and the ironing out of bugs and other issues. If people can handle Gen 3 Bird Keepers being blonde guys with brown shirts and red pants in the overworld, while being black haired guys with red shirts and black pants in battle, then they can handle sub-RDR2 graphics for the Switch games.

@christiancinnabars1402 I don't think people necessarily want the best, most realistic graphics, but moreso, something that looks like one of the highest grossing IPs in the world put effort into it, yknow. Something that looks nice and polished rather than what they currently look like. They can do it but it's like they're actively choosing not to and that makes people mad. These games could be so much more but they just pump out something that looks and feels like a no name indie company made it.

@@kybalerton2608 maybe it's just cause i'm basic and i love minecraft but i think it's only fair to look at the whole picture when it comes to a game(or anything),for example ocarina of time(love that game) but you can't tell me you tought these graphics were great even at the time meanwhile you have jelly beans, chibi animals and tiny singers taking over 2020's gaming, clearly games don't need the latest and greatest tech to impress, besides let's be real pokemon needs voice acting a lot more than it needs up-to-date graphics

My opinion on the shinies is that I think because of how many raw pokemon you encounter means you will find more on average. I think to fix that in games with so many encounters they should go back to the 1/8000 but from kalos to galar the 1/4000 works like perfectly

2:59 on crits, I think people mostly have competitive in mind, which is IMO another can of worms in itself but what I believe that it applies to that context too anyway since the matches are BO3 for that reason (better mitigate for randomness in the game).
For the base game, a take I've seen on randomness is one that actually came as response to criticism against another game.
Fear and Hunger has a system of coin flip that when failed with either kill you or deal a huge amount of damage or inflict a severe effect, but that only matters if you don't actually know what you're doing.
The RNG elements are here to actually help/save you, not to hinder you because if your strategy got screwed because of RNG, then it wasn't a great strategy since it depended on you having good RNG.
Tho it's not as clear cut with Pokemon, because the RNG elements tend to be completely unbalanced.
A 200% damage for a crit is way too much, and nerfing it to 150% was a good call since crits already ignore beneficial enemy stat changes and allies negative stat changes.
About Pokemon giving a bad rep to turne based battle is entirely true, most of the criticizeds towards the genra come from those games and Pokemon player denounce them.
Saying that the game's side content like the battle frontier or battle tower, or competitive invalidates the problems isn't true.
Pokémon is a slow turn based game, everything is slow to a crawl with each action taking so much more time than realistically needed.
A pokemon will attack, it's attack will be displayed in text form with pokemon standing still and then play the animation.
Animations were also heavily criticized throughout the series for how barebone and text base they are (it took them until like 6 for the climate to actually be displayed in the battle scene rather than being a textbox that pops every end of the turn).
Compared to Persona, which is the golden standards for a turn based RPG nowadays, Pokemon is putting you to sleep.
The other issue is how little the game's mechanics actually involve you besides maybe the type chart.
The problem isn't that knowing them makes them boring, it's that being aware that they exist yet go completely unused in any form makes them boring. They don't serve any purpose unless you go into specific post game areas.
EVs and IVs and held items are good exemple of this, before gen 7 they tend to just give some berries at best and only give 30 IVs to the champs Pokemon. Gen 7 and some few games after that give the mons good sets and being fully EV trained (and the E4 in BDSP and Indigo Disk are good example of this).
Let's also not forget other battle format, like 3v3 or 2v2 going completely unused for a majority of the games if not straight up disappearing from the game.
Its not really that the mechanics are too easy to pickup, it's that there's very few reason to actually master them unless you go out of your way to learn the game outside of the game essentially (the best documentation for the games are fan work, even official strategy guide use esthetic terms that don't help you learn stuff like team comp and sets).
Most people don't even know what bases stats are or do, and some don't even know what the physical special split is.
Most of this can be chalked up to Pokemon being a children's games, but battle system being so slow and boring isn't.

If you can ignore graphical glitches circa 2016 Citra in a professional product from the largest media franchise who only patched the bare minimum game crash bugs but still bolted DLC onto it then sure.

I enjoyed S/V more than any other pokemon game I've played. And I've played since Gen 1. They are amazing games, and make a very good case for being the best in the series.
Then again, I also didn't get any of these bugs, crashes, or slowdowns I see other people complaining about, so I got the 100% quality experience. And people saying they're bad just cause 'LUL THE GRAPHICS AREN'T CRISIS LEVEL' are idiots who can't pay attention without 'ooh shiny' in front of them constantly.

Actually, I don't like crits in *any* RPG, full stop. I don't like it when the enemy gets crits and, heck, I don't like it when I get critical hits. Randomly doing extra damage is very unsatisfying, especially when you can't plan around it.
The only game I've ever played where they're satisfying is Fire Emblem - in that series, the units do a fun animation and then there's that very satisfying status effect. The RNG is also pretty predictable in Fire Emblem so you can more easily plan around it. With that said, it IS meant to be a tactics game which makes randomly going extra damage not particularly great.
Meanwhile, in Final Fantasy all you get is a screen flash. That is better than Pokemon, which only gives you a line saying "oh we randomly decided you get to do 1.5x more damage". You can make the stall argument, but that's moreso a sign that ~you have a major skill issue~ there are few actually viable ways to deal with stall teams - especially now that Heavy Duty Boots have buffed them to the moon by making hazards less of an issue
I actually grew to dislike crits the more I got into role-playing games since I feel they don't encourage much by way of strategic planning, but for Pokemon especially the real turning point for me though was a nuzlocke I did recently. I ground myself up to level 20 to take on Lenora with my last surviving Pokemon... and was taken out on turn 1 by a critical hit. From that day forth the deep-seated trauma began and is never going away.removing Stall's main counter in the form of hazards.

    • @shepskydad
      @shepskydad  8 месяцев назад +1

Ahhhh so it all stems from that Lenora fight!
JK JK. I can understand not liking them in a lot of other RPGs. Especially in tactics heavy games. It would be interesting if Pokémon Showdown introduced a type of battle that is exactly the same, except you CAN'T get crits. It would either be very interesting, or VERY toxic. Thanks for watching!

IMO they should make it so more moves always land as crits. That way they can actually be relied on as options for dealing with stat changes instead of having to pray for a 1/16 chance of it happening. It's not like we don't already have moves that do that anyway; Frost Breath and Storm Throw have existed since Gen 5.

9:16 saying "Pokemon fans need to relax" is such a hilariously trash take. Scarlet and violet had unacceptable performance, and that is a fact. There are open world switch games that came out half a decade before it that run better. The game is embarrassingly unoptimized and until they show they can actually make a game of acceptable polish I won't be buying another Pokemon game.

If there wasn't ways to drastically improve shiny odds in gen 9 I'd say shinies are still pretty rare, but sandwiches and the shiny charm exist, and you can find like 20 pokemon in the overworld at once
Even then I found two or three shinies in my playthrough before I got the shiny charm and it was more of a 'oh cool' moment than something I got excited about, when in previous generations I would have been very excited
