I watched this video about 5 years ago & bought a Toyota Prado 120 after being convinced. Believe me, I still own it & never regret the decision. Its the best vehicle I have ever owned.
My comment will be number 100. This video is epic, expecially in the first minutes over the dunes. I bought one just one year ago, what a lovely car. Who else is still watching this in 2024? ❤
I own my Prado in the UK (Landcruiser here). I come from Africa, so I can understand 4xForum's criticism abut the car. Africa is as Africa is. He's right about the wheels etc. But overal his review is pretty good and positive. I love my Prado tremendously!
Got one after watching too much of these reviews. It's an awesome car for all terrains. Go almost anywhere without overthinking it. The 4L V6 is a bit heavy on fuel but great to drive
Watching this 13 years late in 2021. The criticism of the steering being vague is a fair comment. It was the first thing I noticed after a lot of driving when I first got my Prado. Not a deal breaker, but if it had a bit more feedback or resistance when turning it would be perfect.
Not sure about rocky or Bush terrain, but Prado 120 is really capable when it comes to desert drives conquering dunes. I own one and regularly go for desert drives and despite having stock setup, I've never been stuck.
Having got fed up with the Eurobox...(not enough room and costing too much) I'll be buying a 120 diesel in June 2021. I've referred to this video a number of times over the last 18 months but now it's my time to get a 120.
I think I have stuffed up, sold my 80 series and purchased a VX 4.0 lt petrol prado. I'm impressed with power and 4x4 capability, a bit heavy on fuel . compared the repair bills, thank god I have a petrol 4.0lt
I disagree that I know shit. I owned one for a year and I know quite a lot, but some people are offended by criticism of a vehicle that they own. Here is In Africa where the gravel roads are not graded, 17" tyres are a no-no: If you damaged a tyre or rim, you can land in big trouble. Also, this Prado's back door hinges are weak. They break. Otherwise I think it is the best of the Pajero/Disco/Prado group.
Great review Andrew (as usual). Would be interesting to hear your opinion on the evolution from the 90 to the 120, (i.e. what's better / what's worse). Love your channel and videos, please keep up your amazing work.
Just bought the 2007 model erlier this year to tow my boat when needed. I dont know why I didn't buy one earlier. great interior, I like leather, smells good too.
Love my 2015 LC Prado v6 4.0 L 271 HP. Perfect car for the growing city of Doha, Qatar. Got the car 2 weeks ago and it has been running awesome. Installing today a bull bar, rear hook and a camera. Love the respect I got from other motorists (may sound silly, but you have to live here to know what I mean). Cheers :)
Love your videos have been following. Only just found this one with the l120. I have this car since 2012. It's a 2005 5 speed gear, with 260k miles on the clock. Silly road tax in ireland is forcing me to sell because I need to re install rear seats for family reasons. It will break my heart to do so. Have you seen any converted to mini campers with rear seats? Very long shot, I know. Keep making videos I love them.
Bought a Lexus GX, I huess it is mostly the same as the Prado. It does not have the KDSS, but I love it. I relish in the fact that there are some better on road trucks ( Escelade) and some better off road trucks (Jeep Rubicon) and looong after the owners of the aformentioned trucks get to know their mechanic by first name because of poor reliability/quality, I will be still happy with my reliable GX!!!
hurra i drive an older prado (95?) , seems to be one that i wouldnt mind scratching a bit and is built like a tonne of bricks. And yeh it has the bull bar ;)
I've owned 2 Prados and I would have to say this review is very accurate. The 17 inch tyre issue was also the same in OZ but less of a problem now. I've fitted my new D4D Prado with an ARB Sahara bar and it has improved the approach angle considerably. I am heading up to Land Cruiser Mountain Park (QLD)to give it a bit of a work out over this weekend. Clearance and the vunerable sidesteps are the only real issues I can forsee. Thanks for a good, unbiased review.
Nice review, but anyone who purchases the Prado to do any serious off-roading would probably swap the bumpers for a stronger one with better approach and departure angles anyway, so I think that is a mute point.
LOL...Thanks BB. Point taken but that was four years ago. Since then Ive added two new members to my family to insult and I've sold my Prado and now driving a LC200 Sahara...BTW if he bashed the 150 series Prado I would have given him the thumbs up!
Any issue with cooling water? Mine takes sometimes cooling water out of the expansion bottle then when is cool it fill it again. Pretty strange i did not expierienced that with other cars I had.
Iv got a discovery Es premium on a 04 with 140000 miles things never missed a beat in two years 35000 miles. Would one of these be as good of a workhorse
i have a question. have you ever driven the 90 series prado? i am thinking about buyin one and want to know if its any good off road (mainly in the mud). here in south america we olny got the 3.4 V6.
I own a prado Grande and this guy really knows shit!..I have taken my vehicle into the far reaches of outback Australia and it handles a dream. to date i'm to get a stone chip and i have 100% confidence in the vehicle. It is class in the city and in the country.
DoctorJanitor They are very capable. Of course if you are a bit more of a serious off-roader in Aust (can’t speak for Safa’s) you get an after market 2 inch lift and bull bar. I would never judge an off-roader for its off-roading ability with its standard suspension setup and front plastic bumper.
We drive an older 95 series. Old Man Emu suspension upgrade, duel batteries, ARB bullbar, Light Force spoties and heaps of other mods. Has taken us about Oz now for years. My one complaint is storage - It is jut not as big enough for a family of 4 for a week of bush touring without either dragging a camper or loading up the roof racks.
@@4xoverland thanks andrew. But from your fortuner video you were really impressed with it right? Can it be considered a great offroad/overland vehicle? Future classic?
What's the beef in what Andrew said about the Prado in his review? Surely not his reference to stone chips? I do outback touring & camping in Oz and stone chips (Pajero in my case) are just a reality of gravel roads & traffic. My chips came courtesy of gravel flying of the double B's. Mate try to relax and stop taking things personally. He didn't insult your family.

It's because of exactly what you suggest . . . a "Pajaro bashing" vid. It is only seen as Pajero bashing by Pajero owners, who I see as the most insulting, rude and narrow minded of any group of 4x4 owners, even more than Land Cruiser and Land Rover owners. It's an honest review, no bias and not intended to 'bash' anything. But I am tired of the insults, so I disabled the comments.
An honest answer thank you. If I may say though, the title is possibly a little too negative/provocative, but I do like all your reviews and the style of your reviews even if I may beg to differ with your conclusions. Keep up the good work.

Watching from the US in 2021 and I just bought an immaculate '05 Lexus GX 470. Needless to say, the 17inch wheels are not a problem at all!
Best prado ever made
And I am getting my Land Cruiser Prado VX next week! Oh yea! Thanks for the review, makes me even more excited!

just bought a gxl prado 2005, and will put it through its paces over its life, but really enjoyed the insight, time will tell how good they are
