I've learned more from Peter in 1 year than my previous 50+ years of using a camera. And probably my remaining years. :D
Thanks so much
Thank you Peter, Bec and Ana have a great rest of the week.
Thanks heaps, hope you have a great week too
I'm always astonished at Peter's ability to detect and correct the most subtle of lighting "deficiencies"!
And Bec is both a great model and great presenter, oh, and videographer...
Thanks
Coming from a video background always shooting with constant light I always asked myself what the benefits of shooting flash are and just thought it kind of a relic of the past. Very informative video. Our studio has no natural light whatsoever, so we can completely control the lighting and not worry about the drawbacks.
Thank all three of you, it was instructive and friendly.
Thank you
very helpful. makes me re-think not using a constant light source. thumbs up.
Glad it was helpful!
Beautiful picture at the end of this video...👌
Thank you
I quite recently got older Bowens GM500Pro strobe lights, while those became a starting point for my first studio.
The reason for buying was short duration of the flash, in order to reduce blur especially on portraiture. Even when I usually shoot at 1/250s, the flash duration is 1/2900s. This combination pushes down any ambient light. Using of ND filters helps even more.
Thought running through my head "why are they in coats and hoodies?" Then I remind myself, they are in Australia, I am in Houston. Here it's 95 F, there it's winter. Cognitive dissonance is so much fun!
Many thanks for this new video.
@Bec: Many thanks for introducing and closing the session.
@Ana: Many thanks for posing, I see you aim high; I wish you the best success.
@Peter: Many thanks for the explanations, for this constant light flash light dilemma, it helps a lot.
Very well explained, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much professor Peter!! You're a wealth knowledge and experience. Hope you all have a great week! BTW, I noticed the big propane tank heater was running. Is it still cold there?
Thanks for watching. Yes it's just coming in to spring now in Melbourne and still a bit cold, it's also colder in the studio as it is a big warehouse
Lovely video all round. I don't know if it's just me but the flash pictures to me looked ever so slightly sharper. Like an added bite to them if you know what I mean. I'd be interested to know what you think Peter. Best regards to all and added hearts for Bec and Ana .❤❤. Jake Everyman.
You will get sharper images with a strobe/flash constantly could be a little softer also with flashing freezing motion so there’s no camera or model blur as you would get the constant light
Yes of course Peter, I am forgetting my basics. It's the speed of the flash, say around 10thou of a second as opposed to the much slower speed of constant. Thanks for the video and the reply. Regards Jake.
it seems that constant light is making a comeback. stellapro were the first ones i became aware of but 41 years ago when i had my high school senior photos taken, the photographer had constant lights. of course studio strobes really kind of became the light du jour because of the ability to kill ambient light. i guess all of the new LED constants are wiping out the old tungsten bulbs' weaknesses
great video, love Ana, love Bec, love you
Yes constant lights are great because you can see your adjustments before taking a photo
That's informative. I would like to see this subject explored further, tighter shots and the impact on the pupils between the two types (if yer bored for ideas). Thanks guys!
Love the Danny Ric hoodie!
Thank you
Nice précis of the differences and pros & cons.
Thank you
swapped over to a 300w constant light a few weeks ago, mainly so that my subjects iris color pops real nice in photos, which i was having a little bit of an issue with when using flash indoors as i work in a bit of a darker type area, apart from that they also work rather well for workshops so that people can still take photos without messing around with triggers, i like using available light
Nice assessment. I've been experimenting with using constant and flash together using flash to freeze some of the motion when motion is present. It gives a very odd but pleasing astrsy effect.
Good stuff!
Hope you had a great time in Georgia. I had added the dates to my calendar, with the goal in mind to attend. I had to look at the entries all weekend long. It was highly frustrating, because I so desperately wanted to attend. It's probably rare that you come so close to my home. 😒
maybe next time
nice video as always
Thank you
looks fun, striking a pose now!
GREAT INFORMATION
Glad it was helpful!
Great vid
Thanks
Great vid!
Thank you
Thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure!
Good hair cut!
Hi Peter and Bec! Is your backdrop handpainted by you or did you purchase it? I like it!
I hand painted it
cool!
Thanks

quick question...why do you raise and lower the camera after every shot?? is it to force the camera to refocus and recompose?
I use back button focus on my Hasselblad
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer AF-S I assume?
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer by the way...I am awestruck with your black and whites!
It's a Hasselblad H speciality they call "true focus" that makes automatic focus correction between the center measured subject distance and the real distance after reframing.
So you have to center the models eye in the viewfinder, activate the back focus button and then reframe the subject
@@jean-claudemuller3199 wow..very nice. Thank you!
There's another "small" detail if I remember correctly: the ratio between iris and pupil will be affected by constant light but may not be by flash.
the size of the iris has never been a thing with me
Just saw you two walk by me in Dallas Airport at American terminal . Lol
You should of come up and said hi
Just curious why don't you fine tune with the camera settings? You have room there with the exposure triangle You are using?
I can do 10th stops with lights and only 3rd stops with camera
I like flash because constant light can be overly bright and cause a model to react to the light
I still have some good Foba lamps
What do most models prefer? Constant or flash?
Everyone has difference preferences

Locking the emergency exit and putting furniture in front of it doesn't defeat the purpose? 😂
Anyway great video.
It's not a real emergency exit but it's illegal for us to take the sign down.
Not camera related but why is the emergency exit padlocked? In an emergency you wouldn't want to stumble around looking for the key.
The door is not an emergency exit. It doesn't comply by Australia's fire laws but it's illegal for us to remove the sign, stupid governments.
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer oh gee. that seems dumb
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer That does seem stupid. Thanks for the response.
