Thanks Corbin! Getting those young guys extended makes perfect sense.

I want to go all in on the young core. Eventually I want to see a season of
    1. Duran (LF)
    2. Anthony (RF)
    3. Campbell (3B)
    4. Casas (1B)
    5. Devers (DH)
    6. Grissom (2B)
    7. Mayer (SS)
    8. Narvaez (C)
    9. Rafaela (CF)
For a large part of a season to see what we can do.
If we can get this done by 2026 and still have
    Crochet
    Houck
    Buehler
    Bello
    Giolito/Sandoval
We are gonna be fun to watch each and every night out!

Good lineup for the most part. Not sure about Campbell at 3rd and Narvaez as a starter and Buehler and Giolito are gone after 2025 unless they sign another contract. If they have good seasons in 2025, they'll definitely test free agency. Sandoval should be in the rotation in 2026, but again he'll be gone after that, especially if he has a good season. The rest of that lineup and rotation would be competitive for sure. I truly believe they're going to go for Vladdy next off-season in free agency, but if Cohen and the Mets want him (which it looks like he does) Henry won't get in a bidding war with him. If they did get Vladdy though (thank God he's not a Boras client at least not yet), Casas could be used to get another high profile starter or lockdown closer, as Chapman and Hendricks will be gone after 2025, as they'd have Vladdy for 1st OR could keep Casas and put Vladdy at 3rd and Campbell at 2nd and have Grissom for a utility guy or a trade piece. Of course unless you get someone to take Yoshida and Story, this lineup won't happen till 2028.

@@markbailly8627 yeah, you’re probably right but can’t a guy dream? 🤣 it’s fun to play with that lineup too

@@JordanSandquist It's certainly a competitive lineup and would be fun to watch with the kids playing. I'd be a bit nervous that most of the power would come from the left side though. Vladdy would sure look good in the middle of that lineup with Devers, and especially if Casas was still there and Anthony, Campbell and Meyer all were mashing.

Crochet is young. I don't give up the package of prospects that we did for only two years of Crochet. So absolutely extend the man!!! Extending our youngsters is not at all a bad idea for the future. I am really looking forward to seeing Mayer, Campbell and Anthony. This is the route I've been wanting the Red Sox to go. Not wasting the money and CBT space on past-prime big-name free agents. Not when you have such a good young core that I think will be better, and could propel this team into the playoffs year after year.
There's a benefit to extending several years before free agency. Such contracts typically pay out pre-arb-level and arbitration-level salaries in those years, and free-agent-level salaries in the free agent years. Those later, big salaries get diluted when averaged with the earlier, smaller salaries when it comes to determining AAV for the CBT calculation. So in those first free agent years, you could be dishing out way more than the CBT limit, and yet not have to pay the tax. It's a strategy that lets you keep your competitive team together longer.
Matthew Gross had a really interesting take on this yesterday on OverTheMonster, and how it explains why the Red Sox wanted to keep Duran's salary low in 2025 but were more willing to boost it in 2026.

hey expound on what you said about a personality conflict between Casas and the front office. Extensions for several of these players absolutely has to be at the top of the to do list! Duran being foremost in my mind. As you said he has to be rewarded for taking on the responsibilities he's been asked to put on his shoulders.

  • @tommcintyre8391
    @tommcintyre8391 7 дней назад +1

The next year will tell the Red Sox a lot about who Campbell, Anthony, Grissom, and Mayer will be. Casas too. Duran too. I see a lot of extensions happening by the end of the 2025 calendar year, when the Red Sox can be more sure about predicting the future production of these guys.
Crochet has question marks too - he's never actually endured a full season with a full starter's workload. But if you wait a year on him, he'll be just a year from free agency, and may be tempted to just wait. So you're right, given how much they've already invested in Crochet (in prospect capital), waiting to extend him is too risky. They should do it now.

Free agency isn’t about throwing money at just anyone, it’s about getting the right players for short or long term vision. It isn’t a surprise that players don’t want to come to Boston because of the culture or front office. That’s why I’m not upset with this off-season. I see the approach as get the right pieces, and we’ll be in on a splash player if necessary. Yoshida and his contract are an issue, if they can move him or if he becomes an effective outfielder this offseason, then he acts as a plus addition, same goes with golito as a pitcher, his limited presence last year due to injury, acts as a “signing” for this season. Extensions just to spend money doesn’t work….casas or Duran make sense only as to know what you are allocating for a longer term, as well as to dangle value upside if using them as trade pieces.

A great plan for an alternative way to use the bucks. (You always seem to come up with great plans.)
I think you can actually do both (pay veteran 3B and give extensions) so long as the 3B isn't too long-term. Not sure about Arenado's bat, but his contract is perfect: 3 years, and the amount goes down as the young guys' salaries are going up.

Duran is a star and he is going to burn out like Ellsbury.,

You’re right about the PPI, however if they’re top 3 in mvp voting the first 3 years of being in the league they’re still eligible for that PPI pick. Each player can only net the team 1 PPI pick so a player can’t win ROY and MVP even in different seasons and net the team multiple PPI picks. I think the fear with not extending them is, if you extend them before you see them debut you might get a chourio contract 8/82 + 2 team options at 25m per year with 0 escalators or opt outs. If you see them set the world on fire you’re stuck with the Bobby Witt/JRod contract. Witt got opt outs, JRod got massive escalators that went from a base 12/209m to a possible 12/470 contract. To me, idk if the PPI pick is worth the possibility of a 500m contract ownership isn’t willing to pay, or give the player an opt out in the middle of their prime. You can save hundreds of millions of dollars if you sign Campbell and Anthony now (this is why I was screaming from the rooftops in September to debut the top prospects when we were clearly out of the playoff hunt so you can have discussions and preserve the PPI pick but everyone said that was stupid because then you’d have to carry them on the 40 man all offseason). To me, if they sign crochet/campbell/anthony to long term extensions (crochet 4+2 team options or a straight 6 year deal and Campbell/anthony to 8-10 year deals with team options) it’s pretty hard to say Sox didn’t have the second best offseason in baseball. They clearly got better and preserved their long term window without committing to aging players on long term money

I would love for Boston to agree with Crochet today. Definitely extend Houck and take the risk of giving Anthony a pre-debut extension before the season starts. A 2nd if they believe in Campbell. 3, why not take a wild swing at Giolti. Make a team friendly deal taking the risk Giolti will worth more than let's say a 4 year 80-100. Absolutely make an offer to Casas. He did get a freak injury. Maybe he is thinking differently and would accept deal that covers his arm years plus 1 or 2 extra years. Lastly, Keep an eye on Buehler. Maybe Buehler is going to be a SP the rest of his life, maybe not. Have an offer ready for 2 scenarios. A SP who gets a 5 or 6 year that fairly pays him as a #3 SP with upside or comfortable enough that if Buehler needs to go to the BP bc innings are an issue,,,, he would be an elite closer at 50 innings ayear. Lastly, ifthey extend Crochet Houck and maybe one of Giolti or Buehler, I would love to think Breslow has his eye on some younger arms for the future. Bello deal is very team friendly. Let's say Euery Perez becomes available. I would not be opposed to send Bello Abreu Arias and Sandlin or Perales for Perez and White.

Extending is great if you tab the right players at the right time. Crochett would be the one to target first, but do you have faith that the Sox will give him a good enough offer without lowballing? You also may want to see what he does over a full season as a starter too if you are going to give him the type of money it will cost. Houck is great person to extend he has shown what he can do and is worth the extension. I would not extend Casas right now, let him show you he can stay healthy for full season so you know what you really have. Prospects do not get extentions from teams for the reasons you mentioned so no on them. Maybe they are prepping for those though, FSG is planning on selling a minority share of the Penguins soon, so that $$$ could help out lots. 100 - 200 million would be nice just like they did with Liverpool in 2023.Or maybe it is for Bregman or Vlady just in case. @@whatferd That's not entirely true ...Rafael Devers has been extended with a $331 million 11 year deal ... i also believe that Bryan Bello and Ceddanne Rafaela along with manager Alex Cora have also received recent extensions ... Again, I'm quite confident that John Henry will be more receptive to extending Crotchet and Houck now and following up and addressing the time length of contracts with Casas, Campbell, Anthony, Duran and other key contributors moving forward ...
Keep in mind the team has undergone a reset over these last few years since the firing and dismissal of Dave Dombrowski ... Though I'm in the minority, I believe the team is on the right course by strategically and more economically building the roster through the draft, player development and securing long term extensions on their core talent ... The last two ball clubs that had a run of three or more World Series championships were the NY Yankees (1996-2000) and SF Giants (2010-2014) ... In my opinion the Red Sox are now quickly building their roster at all levels of the organization in ascending to a similar sustained level of success ...

Too much swing & miss in Alonso's game.

@@redseatradio Exactly. Boras knows what he is doing. I personally dont believe the Redox ever had a chance of signing Bregman to a reasonable contract and are simply being used to drive up the Astros offer. They can sign Alonso to a 3 yr deal and he will be an upgrade over O Neill. It will cost but its for 3 years and the Redsox can continue assessing what they have in their own youth movement. Reports of Alonsos decline are unfounded exaggerations. Behind Devers he will bang .268 and 28-38 Hr in a Redsox uniform...for 3 years.

The Sox payroll is 14th. Oakland has spent more money this season.Sam Kennedy said this past November that we will spend and if we have to pay a luxury tax so be it. LIAR

Do you know O’Neil had 31 home runs last year the next is Raffy at 28 are you kidding we don’t need another bat unbelievable oh we don’t need Santander he only had 42 this team are knuckle heads Casas hasn’t proven anything else the young players should be contributors not relied on to be superstars this year and that’s what there counting on you know I’m sick and tired of repeating myself they want to win 2 years from now not now they operate like a business all they had to do after the crochet trade sign teoscar even if you had to over pay and sign Bergman and we would all be happy satisfied crochet bregman and teoscar and red sex nation would consider this a great offseason and all could have been had but of course we are working on the cheap again get use to 500 baseball for years gentleman
