2:53 you know that little yellow pot she melted the butter in has been around for a minute!! I love favorite cooking utensils like this! They’re just perfect for little jobs and always make you smile when they come out 😊
We'll have to try this. I'm from Boston, now living in SE Asia, and grow coconuts, with 2 groves. I can't believe than no one's doing this here. All these ingredients are easily available. But home baking simply isn't popular here, people just go out and buy all their baked goods.
@@mariaroldan4200, here, in the Ring of Fire, gas plumbing is nonexistent, because of earthquakes and volcanoes. Very few people have gas ranges, I know of only one lady on my street, that has one, besides me. We burn a tanked gas called Gasul, it burns way hotter than propane, and lasts much longer. My gas bill is $16.00 a month. But no, most people don't bake, except for loving bakers, that do a fantastic job, like in France.
I have got to make this, because I love anything coconut. But I can think of a fun variation which I'm surprised as it mentioned here. How would that take me if you zested two or three limes, and added in that lime zest to the cake batter coconut and lime karma together, is absolutely sublime. A little bit of fresh diced mango, perfectly ripe, and some whipped cream? Baby, I'm all in.
This pound cake does look lighter than the usual pound cake. I’m going to try this recipe. I was surprised, though, because there is no actual shredded coconut in the cake. I wonder if I could add some on the top of the whipped cream? Sounds good to me!! ❤️
Julia, I’ve made this recipe from your food processor book (it’s a regular vanilla version, not coconut). In that recipe, you add flour mixture into the food processor too, and just pulse 4-5 times. Do not over-process. It’s the best pound cake ever! Absolutely perfect. Curious if you’ve tried it that way with this one? And I recommend larger 5x9 pan, because it looks a bit nicer with cleaner edges. :)
If it’s not too much to ask, would you please provide the quantity of dry ingredients in grams instead of cups because measuring dry ingredients by volume is prone to inaccuracy.
Hi Julia and ATK, you need to be more specific for the depth of the pan. The one she's using is 2.75 or 3 inches deep. I tried it in one that's 2.5 inches deep and it was right to the top and spilled over and continued pushing out of the cake pan.
what..... you think your easy pound cake just fell out of a coconut tree? it exists in the context of all that came before it, unburdened by the cake mould
I have made this (regular vanilla version, not coconut), it’s actually an excellent pound cake with perfect texture. I think you imagine it as soft regular cake, but it’s not, it’s a really perfect pound cake. Try it! :)
@@Martina1192 Thanks for the encouragement to try it. It is high on the to-be--baked-soon list! I like when my grandmother's pound cakes would fall and she would refer to them as "sad" but they were dense and delicious...but I've never tried any recipe Julia put out that I did not like!
To get cream of coconut from coconut milk all you really need to do is, put your can of coconut milk in the fridge overnight (dont shake it!). In the morning (once again dont shake it!), open the can BOTTOM with a bottle opener and let the water/juice/additives drain out! All that's left will be the actual coconut cream!
@@joannesmith2484 Thanks for this. I was about to ask whether Cream of Coconut is the same as Coconut Cream. I guess if I use Coconut Cream, I might have to adjust up the sugar content a bit? I wonder if anyone has tried making this with Coconut Cream, as it is much easier to get than Cream of Coconut.
I must have messed up somewhere. The cake split at the top, but of more concern it took an hour and 20 minutes to bake. It was still liquid inside at 60 minutes.
I added the food processor ingredients to a high sided bowl, a sauce pan would work too, and used an immersion blender. They are inexpensive and versatile. Hope this helped.
2 cups is 16 ounces in volume. A cup of flour typically weighs between 4 and 4.5 ounces. 8 ounces’ weight for a volume of two cups of cake flour sounds about right to me.
She actually gives you the entire recipe within this video, if you want it for free, just write it down 🤷♀️ ATK is an independent test kitchen and doesn't take advertising dollars so yeah, you pay for quality.
I love coconut, but I'd have to grate it myself. Packaged shredded coconut now contains sodium metabisulphite and propylene glycol, which is antifreeze! 🤮🥸☢️
Propylene Glycol is actually an organic alcohol used most often as a skin conditioning agent and food additive. It is occasionally used as an ingredient in antifreeze but it is not harmful. You're thinking of Ethylene Glycol. Variations of Propylene Glycol are used in all sorts of medicine, Healthcare products and foods. It is used to absorb excess water and maintain moisture levels in many products.
Julia is such a wonderful talent. She is relatable, clear in her instructions and her love of food shines through - a true joy to watch.
food processor cakes just became my new favorite genre of cake ❤
Imagine this as the shortcake in a strawberry or peach shortcake dessert! 😮❤
Great idea 💡
I will be making this recipe, thanks for sharing, Julia, different!
👏🏾

Looks good Julia. I guess I'm adding coconut cream and coconut extract to my shopping list.
I've had 'pound cake'
that weighed about five pounds!
My son's very favorite flavor, .... coconut!
Thank you, Julia.
Julia, I always love watching what you teach. Even if I cannot cook for a damn, I love to listen to you tell me how to anyway!
I just put the dry ingredients into the food processor and pulsed them in and it was fine! Saves a lot of palaver. Done it twice now, lovely cake
I made this yesterday, and is it ever delicious! And quick. Definitely one for the recipe box!
Can't wait to try it!

I love anything coconut.. Will be making this soon and I won't be sharing!
IKR - why do they make so many 'single-serving' cakes? /wink
You can share with me 😉
I was thinking of putting some pineapple on the top with the whipped cream … YUM !
Grilled, if you’re feeling extra!
Looks great can't wait to bake it and bring it to church.
Amazing as always. Thanks again Julia

I need to make this cake. Thanks for the recipe. 😊
Stashed this in my files. Looks delicious!! I will be making this !! Thanks, Julia!! ♡D

Love the video, how do you stop it from top splitting??
Will be making!
nice!
Ok, will definitely be making that coconut pound cake.
Lovely; simple and inexpensive. You could pretty much serve anything with this.
that's just what I was thinking! I have some very ripe nectarines and think I will use this cake in a Nectarine Shortcake!
Finally! Someone whose oven glass is as dirty as mine!

😋 yum did u use 4 eggs ?
Did you know that you can buy coconut syrup? Can just imagine a drizzle of that syrup and pineapple instead of raspberries? Or maybe kiwis? 😮 yummy!😊❤
I want me a slice 🍰 I love coconut 🥥 and pound cake 😋

❤❤❤ that coconut pound cake 😋

cream of coconut has a lot of sugar in it - would you still need to add a cup of sugar along with the cream of coconut?
❤❤❤❤❤
Ive been baking for 40+ years and never had a cake turn out moist using cake flour!
what..... you think your easy pound cake just fell out of a coconut tree? it exists in the context of all that came before it, unburdened by the cake mould
Do you like what coconut has been? You'll love what this cake will be
I got a Kamala Harris ad on this video
Love those comments! Now we need a recipe for word salad! 😂
Kamala is a moron.
I like dense heavy pound cakes
My thoughts exactly! I love a heavy, dense pound cake. But you know this one has to be good if Julia made it.
Same! This isn't a pound cake...

That's coconut cream, not cream of coconut. Cream of coconut is sweetened with sugar, coconut milk isn't. Think evaporated milk vs condensed milk.

She specified CREAM OF COCONUT, go back to the 1 minute mark and listen.
I wonder if I could add some sweetened shredded coconut to the batter.
It's labeled Cake & Pastry Flour or just Pastry Flour.
Massive massive fan of ATK but please, for baking, can you pls give metric measurements by weight?
Make this for company…they’ll be so impressed.
"Bain de Soleil, for the Saint Tropez tan"
I thought a pound cake was supposed to be dense with a fine texture….not lighter and fluffier. Im confused?
Yes, please!!

Would Browning the butter improve the pound cakes flavor any?
what if u dont have a food processor
I added the food processor ingredients to a high sided bowl, a sauce pan would work too, and used an immersion blender. They are inexpensive and versatile. Hope this helped.
Adjustable measuring cup 👀
If you add coconut oil instead of butter you don't need to add coconut extract!

When I go to the supermarket, none of the flours are labelled "cake flour", so what are you talking about?
Swan's Down or Softasilk are usually readily available in supermarkets.
4! ;)
So, there's no coconut in it? Wtf
Can't print recipe without subscription. Bummer
The recipe ask for 2 cups of flour, but also reads (8 ounces). Is it 2 cups which is 16oz or is it 8oz which is one cup? Thanks
16oz is weight, you're confusing that with FlOz, which is volume.
2 cups is 16 ounces in volume. A cup of flour typically weighs between 4 and 4.5 ounces. 8 ounces’ weight for a volume of two cups of cake flour sounds about right to me.
