His 2nd major meltdown (the first was in 2006) in 2014/2015 (drug binging) almost killed hi. And he did not only survive, but also kept his voice. The thing here is that he had been sober for a few months, and he still had to reeducate his voice. Listen to other peformances of Queen or Keane from more recent years and you ll see a notorious difference (of course, you may or may not like his style, but that this guy has a great voice today, and back in 2010 and before, and quite acceptable in the years in between is undeniable as I see it.
