Pop music is all about the image, it doesn't take a genius to make a chart hit. The artist just has to have the right look, he doesn't really look like a pop star, does he? most chart pop artists don't write their own music anyway.
I want to be a professional bassoonist too. I'll admit, it's mainly for the attention you get from women rather than a passion for the music itself. I'm just so sick of playing my heart out on the guitar, and then watching as all the girls leave with the bassoon players.
You know not all girls are into musicians some girls don't like it when guys pour there heart out some girls like it when guys are mysterious or shy a lot of girls are suckers for that kind of stuff
I haven't seen this video in ages, and it's funny how that subtle joke of the lighting in the room changing between takes when he Googles sexy women, implying he got distracted for a while went right over my head the first time.
I can't understand why there are many bassoon players in the world and no one has made a cover of this yet. I would buy a bassoon and learn to play it just for this song.
+MashupKing09 The funny thing is: The same person did the instrumental hook for both tracks: Ori Kaplan. Both producer teams hired the same guy because he's so good at doing those hooks.
At the time when I first watched this I didn’t really think the song was that great but the fact that I’ve come back seven years later with his Song still stuck in my head shows that this guy knew what he was talking about!
piratexander Catchy but plain and straight out of a template, just like everything that's Top 40. I guess the fact that people can consider this a good song after seeing how easy it is to churn this stuff out suggests they either don't really care about the creative process behind a song, or more likely still haven't explored enough music and expanded their musical tastes beyond the equivalent of a Big Mac and fries, which tastes good on occasion but is still cheap, low quality junk.
Sahanavic I listen to shittons of different artists and genres of music, and I know enough about it that I can appreciate when something is really complex and tell when it is not. I just still enjoy a lot of pop because it sounds nice. I know it's simple and formulaic, but I like simple and I like the formula, so I don't care.
starkiller187 It wasn't personal man. I'm not saying this isn't bad music, I just think that a lot of top 40 songs are just rehashes of the same thing written by a team of writers working for a paycheck, and don't deserve as much popularity as they get when compared to a lot of creative, meaningful music being written by talented artists out there that barely get any attention.. A big part of the problem is that a lot of people don't get exposed to all this other music and just doesn't know it exists. If more people did know what sort of talent exists even in their local music scene, maybe the popularity of songs would better reflect the artistry and talent of the musicians who made them.
Sahanavic Well, I like this song, too, but at the same time, I also recognize that it's not "caviar," so to speak. It's catchy (which it was intended to be), and quite frankly, because of its satirical nature (the oddness of the lyrics is hilarious to me), that makes it all the better. Also, if you listen to it critically, you can tell he put more work into it than just what he said (he wrote actual lyrics that pertain somewhat to Jennifer Lawrence, it's clearly meant to be taken as a joke, etc.). I don't know that I'd call it a "good" song, but people's tastes vary. I like this, but I *love* songs written in unusual meters, or that change keys or make really good use of relative majors/minors...just like I might like a double cheeseburger from down the street, but *love* fatty tuna w/ gold flakes in it.
+Il veritiere Anonimo Satire is a tone which reflects the thoughts of an author. Satires attempt to provoke a social change. There are two main types of satire: Horatian and Juvenalian. Horatian satire makes fun of a subject or idea and is only comical, not serious. An example of this is the skits on Saturday Night Live. Juvenalian satire is caustic and is only serious, not comical, for this satire is usually directed at a specific person like Henry VIII in Sir Thomas More's Utopia. Actually this song sounds like an actual top-notch hit song. Especially the bassoon part. So frikin catchy! I heard it just once (!!!) 3 years ago and couldn't get it out of my head since!
I know this is a joke. But as a musician trying to write an album with at least one song of every genre this actually was helpful and gave me some ideas. Because pop is so simple I didn’t understand what made it work but I think this sums it up nicely. Thanks 👍🏼
I used watch this man's videos nine years ago, I was 6-7 with my family. I just came across a TikTok video with this guy in it and I was brought back to 2014 for a minute and I was reminiscing on this
The music industry, just like pretty much every other industry, has nothing to do with talent or originality and everything to do with money and connections. Welcome to the real world.
The only saving grace to the industry are bands like Iron Maiden, who still chuck out originals for the love of the music; and turned down Glastonbury this year because it's become too manufactured.
Jim Crawford Yes but Iron Maiden are a completely different genre of music. Most pop songs are generic replicated crap. Thankfully, Metal and a few other genres haven't been thoroughly corrupted by money and corporate greed. But it's seeping in, slowly, steadily, seeping into the foundations. Soon, every genre of music will be swallowed up by the lure of 'da muhneez' which has already ruined pop music. Enjoy the bands we have now, because future generations will look back at these bands with a glimmer of sadness thinking "Where'd all the good stuff go?" whilst delving into their collection of classics from yester-year :/
This song is a very good representation of contemporary pop music (even 4 years later), there's just one thing that the top artists do differently: They don't do their own rap, they take in someone more famous to bring a bit more klout to the song.
It is halfway through the year 2020 tell me why my brain started remembering this song today. I had to find it. Lol what else have I stored in my brain to discover later. But I did love the creativity and sound in this in 2014
MrEdUrAt While it is easy, its no where close to what this video makes it where he skips over like every step of production and just underlines the basic things you need.

The sad part is, he probably wrote all the lyrics and the music in less than 15 minutes, yet it takes the modern artist months or even years for them to release this shit and call it a musical masterpiece.

Ollie Wilkins he didn't write it in under 4 hours, he made the vinyl in under 4 hours. jack white isn't that great anyway, he's pretty much just the blues with a little pizzaz thrown on top. the blues is simple
Hi Brett, my friend, a choir director put me on to your video and I have shared it on facebook and with friends. Fantastic, great humour and so true. Keep them coming! Thanks.
That is hilarious and actually catchy too. I've had this exact discussion with friends of mine in bands and to see someone do this, in this manner is funny as hell.
Exactly!! Rappers don't have skill. They pay for the beats and lyrics for the most part. They are successful because they blast the song everywhere with their rich friends. lol
Most of your comment is not true....please try writing a 16 bar verse....yeah its easy to make bad rap...there's plenty of good rap out there..its just not on the radio...just like any genre...the radio shit is the worst music of the genre there playing
I came here because they literally made your song and it plays on the pop hits radio 😂 Ed Sheerans song called shivers goes “ohh I love it when you do it like that”
My housemate says: "Look, I really enjoyed it, but there's a lack of 'groove', of 'movement', of 'getting down with it' with the bassoon playing. I think with this element incorporated, the music video would kick ass. The song itself is flawless, I can't really recommend it enough. 5 stars, except for the video which is 4.5 stars. Look - I'm not going to go either way on this, but I think she has a valid point, so just thought I'd share it. Cheers!
Never before has someone explained the simplicity of pop music better.
so simple only one in a million people ever write a hit and not this guy after devoting his whole life to it.
Pop music is all about the image, it doesn't take a genius to make a chart hit. The artist just has to have the right look, he doesn't really look like a pop star, does he? most chart pop artists don't write their own music anyway.
Make a hit for me please, I will give you 200 grand for it.
give me a recording studio first. Then you can have your No1 hit I promise you.
just hum the melody verse and chorus and send it to the copyright office on a cd after watching how to copyright a song instructional video
I'm a professional bassoonist and found this absolutely hilarious (for multiple reasons). Thanks for making the bassoon sexy, Brett.
I want to be a professional bassoonist too. I'll admit, it's mainly for the attention you get from women rather than a passion for the music itself. I'm just so sick of playing my heart out on the guitar, and then watching as all the girls leave with the bassoon players.
Yimello
Sorry about that, taking the girls and all that. I guess it's because they've never seen a bassoon before in their life.
You know not all girls are into musicians some girls don't like it when guys pour there heart out some girls like it when guys are mysterious or shy a lot of girls are suckers for that kind of stuff
Haley Blackwell Well I play the bassoon in a very mysterious way.
Exactly ... he chose it because he doesnt really know how to play it
Damn you! Its over 5 years later and I still can’t get that bassoon hook out my head!!! 🤪🎶
Ayyyy 2020
then he did the job right.

This man has single handedly violated the whole of the pop industry with a bassoon mad lad
Needs more unnecessary under-dressed women on the video

Needs more cowbell.. And Brett Domino
Disagree. I think they should just take their shirts off in the last third.
1000th like
What makes you think that this man has access to that
Despite the silliness, this is actually quite useful.

Let's face it. Jason Derulo would hit number one with this song xD
xD
Are you talking about take you dancing or something-
I haven't seen this video in ages, and it's funny how that subtle joke of the lighting in the room changing between takes when he Googles sexy women, implying he got distracted for a while went right over my head the first time.
Amazing. All it's missing is Brett singing his own name.
He did it at the start, ticks all the boxes ;)
I meant like full-on Jason Derulo style. Jay-son DeruloOoOoOoOo

He does it in Part 2.

Honestly, its better than any Derulo song I've heard
Thanks Al.
What about "In my head"?

The scary thing is that it actually does sound like a real pop song.
This could easily be a top hit if made by a popular artist. It’s kinda hilarious
