He had no weaknesses in his game...the only edge Sampras had over him was forehand and movement and maybe arguably a very slight edge in volleys. Krajicek had an equally lethal serve (probably better first serve) and better backhand. Sampras did have a leading head to head over all major rivals however, which amongst the big 3 only Djokovic can lay claim to.
@A if you're going by the radar measurements then threy are not the same speeds. From what I remember, the new radars were being used here which measure the speed directly from behind the players as opposed to when the ball reaches the net as was the case up until the end of the 90s. So if the radars here show Krajicek serving at 125 mph, it's slower (probably by about 10 mph) than a 125 mph measurement in the 90s and so on.

gerhyuga I would like to see the real tape. If someone serves 100% for 5 games but has one game where the serve 0%, that game they will get broken. Federer got 2/3 breaks. Krajicek got 0/7.

gerhyuga The video starts at 5-4, and it isn't highlights? What about his first 4 service games? More Federer propaganda. I'll post the 1st serve percentage of the serves in this video, which is what counts.
that what i said , this video shows mostly Federer winners (yeah, don't forget the title of the video ), so it isn't a highlights, i think the whole match was more competitive, i would like to watch it..but still Fed handled Krajicek in the end of the match
He had a lot of injuries so i think it took a lot of energy and mental strength to fight back all the time. He sometimes looked uninspired and his odylanguage never was that positive at all. But he did win wimbledon and had a positive head-to-head against Sampras who in my opinion is the best of all times...
This was close to the end for Krajicek. This was after surgery on both knees and the elbow starting to go. Still, Krajicek played alright, Federer with some key returns. What you see at 5:50 is what prime Krajicek did; close the net, and pound volleys.
I think Roger is the greatest returner the game has ever seen because he's so close the to baseline for the returns, meaning he has less time to react but takes away his opponents advantage by cutting off the angles! This is all made possible because he has the best hand eye coordination the game probably has ever seen!
+sultanabran1 both of you have a point. I'd say Roger is the best in terms of ability to return any serve at any speed, while Agassi was the best in terms of damage with the return. But Agassi was much easier to ace. Djokovic has both, but I don't think he can perform like Federer when placed in front of Karlovic, Roddick, Isner, and so forth. But lately he's shown he can cause severe damage with his returns.
Danilo Bonina agree. that point about federer neutralising the serve and agassi attacking a serve is a good point now that i think about agassi's returns.
+Danilo Bonina Yeah if you look at Indian Wells 2012, it shows that Djokovic does have problems with Isner's serve. Federer was able to handle it better.
This Federer looks a very promising player- i predict a big future for him. I would even go so far as to say he could be world #1, win lots of grand slams and dominate the game.
@jaynerf He is indeed still using Babolat Strings, or let's say the Wilson Natural Gut is actually produced by Babolat. But Cross strings are Luxilon Poly Alu Power Rough. Wilson just sells the combination of those two strings as the "Champion's Choice". Tried it out once on my Tour 90 Wilson, great setup!
Not sure it would have mattered too much but yeah he was pretty banged up later in his career. Tennis at the pro level must be brutal on the body, especially of the big guys like Krajicek.
Krajicek was taller and that makes it easier to serve bigger and with better angles...Krajicek is a natural server and in my mind one of the best first serves of all times...Nadals serve can be a bit better and it has to be if he wants to beat Djokovic consistently
96 or 00 Krajicek will be broken the same way. Federer has a good stab return and good reader of first serve. He grew up kicking those guys off the tour who rely on big serve and volley.

That video is a good illustration of why you almost never see serve and volley tennis anymore. The pros return so well that the volleyer is instantly put in a bad position most of the time. Krajicek had a great serve and still it came back at his feet most of the time.
I guess you are right on that point. Agassi was renowned as the best service returner when he played Sampras in the US open 2001. He could barely handle Sampras' service and see how far from the base line he was receiving that service - best service return at that time. Same year Sampras loses at Wimbledon from youg Federer. Look how close Federer was at the baseline receiving the first service from Sampras, the fastest service at that time. Still he put Sampras at service under pressure every time and breaks it at decisive points. Sadly the end of serve and volley era.
he's using babolat strings, thats why he has the logo painted on the string bed. same with sampras. both of them used babolat strings and i guess as an endorsement deal, babolat required them to put the logo on their rackets.
Federer was sponsored by Wilson, he was just using Babolat strings, hence the logo. Babolat hasn't been making rackets for a very long time, but they have been making stings for over 100 years.
pause at 0:47. His strings have both the Babolat symbol and Wilson's W on them. The W is pretty hard to see, though. Is there anyone who can tell what kind of racket it is for sure?
I'd love to see Safin going up against Krajicek at the time. Seeing how well Safin could read Sampras's serve every time they met, I bet it would have been a fun, hard hitting match! Great upload btw. Rare and epic at the same time, lol!! Thanks!
you're absolutely right, and i think Hewitts and Nadals game became better after they got to the number 1 spot, but Federer did this only for a few years, maybe to 2006, where he got to a peak and he just couldn't get better, nothing new was shown from him (but that's just my opinion)
