I can’t see them bothering to sort it out unless you give them a lot of grief, it’s not fit for purpose, it’s dangerous if it’s cutting out. The engine light could be a charging issue that could leave you stranded somewhere with a flat battery.

We took one for a test ride a few months ago. The engine light came on whilst I was riding the bike. That's definitely not what you want to see whilst riding a brand new bike. In the end, it was the buzzy vibration at road speed revs which put us off plus it is a bit lacking in power compared to the bikes we're used to.

I'm glad to hear that you are happy with your BSA . However you should get that engine light and "cutting out" issue sorted under warranty . I bought a Tiger 1200 last year and it had the "cutting out" issue and the damned thing was bloody dangerous ,cutting out half way across road intersections [ cross roads etc ] . I took it to the dealer I bought it from and it took them most of the day to sort it out , I wouldn't leave until it was fixed . Since then it's been trouble free .
I doubt if your bike will fix itself . The new BSA company have just extended the warranty so there should be no problem .

here in Western Pennsylvania just north of Pittsburgh, I have been riding since 1968. I don’t ever remember seeing a BSA dealership…
One of my classmates dad’s had a 650 BSA..
while working for the company, I just retired from back in the 90s, I was in the meter reading department for years. I always kept my eye out for orphan motorcycles just sitting in peoples garage is, in the backyard, in the basement, and if I couldn’t contact someone that knew about it at the site, I would leave a note
usually, I would say on the note, I am interested in this machine, I would like to buy it while there’s still something left to save .. i’ve actually had a couple motorcycles, just given to me to get them out of the garage. Both of them were Yamaha XS 650 twins.. being an exmechanic at three different dealerships when I was in my 20s, I would get these machines running and if I like them, I would ride them for a while, but anything I ever had was always for sale if anyone would ask.. I only regret selling two of my machines that people asked about. My Honda, CX 500 that I put upgraded fork, springs, and KONI shocks, CB 400 F bars, and I was able to get a turtle shell backseat like on the BMW R100 RS, but it was actually made for the CX 500 Canadian models. Some guy asked me if I would sell it to him. I asked him what he would pay. He offered me three times what I had in it. If you don’t sell when someone makes you an offer like that, it’s the same as paying that much for it yourself I regret selling that one. And my 1979 moto guzzi SP 1000…
i’ve been finding videos by British riders here on RUclips like yourself. and I actually made my latest motorcycle purchase, because I was so influenced by the English writers that never have anything to say bad about the Honda nt700 .. The reviews I have seen on RUclips about these Hondas, this particular model, made me buy one that was for sale here in Western Pennsylvania. It’s a 2010, only 7500 miles on it, original owner…
it hasn’t been repainted or modified, so I bought it after the test ride.
but something happened on my first long test ride when I brought the machine home and went over it. It broke down. It ended up being what I think was debris left in the tank from the fuel that evaporated because the machine sat for years. My adding fresh gas and riding the bike loose and all that crap and that plugged the fuel pump filter.. That’s the first time since the 1970s that I had to go and rescue one of my machines broke down. The first one was my Kawasaki A7SS 350 avenger… They had a nasty little habit of sheering off the rotary valves.. now that I think of it, that was around 50 years ago..
your BSA video has me interested. All of a sudden, there are two dealers that are selling triumphs.and Royal Enfield machines.. I wasn’t really thrilled with the Himalaya machine, or the two 650s royal Enfield has available here now. But that single you have, I like it.
i’m gonna be going over the videos on RUclips about this machine like a fly on fly paper to get feedback from owners like yourself..
watching this video you have you made with your phone, can I suggest a Camera? I don’t even know if they still make this camera model, but I bought a SENA. prism tube camera that comes with a bracket sort of like a microphone holder that the camera snaps into on the side of the helmet. It is literally like a 4 inch section of your handlebars, or a roll of United States nickel coins.. there is only one setting for this camera. On or off. You can turn it on or off with gloves on.
my camera actually fell off one day at about 50 miles an hour. A buddy was riding behind me that day, and he saw something fall off my bike. So he stopped and picked it up. And he handed it to me at the next traffic light. It was my camera. He said it bounced about 5 feet in the air off of the asphalt. it had no bad effects on the camera. It got a couple scuffs on it, but that’s it. The body of the camera is metal. I use the included external microphone that came with the camera. It comes on the end of a. wire, and I mount the microphone wrapped in a foam, rubber wind sock inside my helmet in the ear pocket. The external microphone is only about the size of a peanut out of the shell.
if you would like to see a sample of the types of video and the sound recorded with the external mic stuffed inside the earpocket of my helmet- here are just a couple of the videos I have on RUclips using the Sena prism tube, helmet camera with the included external microphone
(Kawasaki Z 400 BS from the book of common knowledge)
    and
( royal star venture Long way home)
I’ll be checking your videos out, keeping an eye on your BSA reviews. Thanks.

And great advice on a decent camera, I will watch your recommended videos as I will definitely be making better quality videos in the future, think I've got the bug now.
The only trouble with most BSA gold star reviews on you tube, is , they are not owner reviews, they have been given a free ride on the dealers bike to review it, so you might not get a full honest review, because, obviously, if they slag it off too much, the dealer won't sell many.
Good luck in your search for a new bike though 👍

At a glance I like it, but it's an old Enfield frame with a Rotax engine, kerb weight 213kg, there are twins way lighter than that with more capacity, I'd prefer a sorted B33 really tough engine, some lads had one with trials tyres on the local common treated it like a speedway bike until the clutch started slipping so they rode it home and it sounded as sweet as when it arrived. Good to see someone putting drops on, I personally felt this is what the bike needed to really get the look of the old one. Do you mind me asking what bars they are please? I don't have a Gold Star but I think they might look ok on Classic 350 too.

      Thanks,.
I just got some cheap ones off eBay 7/8" ,under £40.
the main thing I found was, you have to make sure the depth is quite big to go around your clocks, if I had shorter depth, then the brake cylinder reservoir would have dug into the clocks.
Just measure from where your handle bars are clamped at the moment to where it would clear your clocks, and that's the size of bars you need.

That radiator looks like such an after thought. Reminds me of a model T ford. BSA needs to redesign the radiator to contour of the frame. Triumph did such a better job of their radiator.

    • @awesomeappleby5923
      @awesomeappleby5923  6 месяцев назад

      Yes, it is a shame.
Unfortunately, there is nothing other you can do with the radiator.
Because it's a single cylinder, it needs it that size for new emissions.
Whereas triumph are a twin, so can be cooled with a smaller oil rad .
It's the unfortunate price to pay for a modern good looking single 650 cylinder nowadays.
But to be honest, when you own one, the beauty of the overhaul bike makes you accept the rad for what it is, I've had Bonnie's. And the BSA as an owner is more pleasing to the eye in your shed 👍

Great real world review. The exhaust weld is ridiculous - to put all that effort into recreating an authentic looking 60’s bike and then spoiling it with such a crass detail beggars belief. The cutting out is down right dangerous and that needs fixing. I think current emission standards are pushing the abilities of some manufacturers to produce suitable mapping. The headlight cracking happened on TEC’s own development bike so it is an issue- good luck with yours. Anyway keep posting and let’s see how you get on with it over time - ride safe.

I like the bars, what make are they? I ride a 2007 Moto Guzzi and even that runs too lean and cuts out every now and then at junctions, I will eventually get it remapped. I built and rebuilt a ´57 B33, and I've ridden a Gold Star.
This may be a fine machine but if you call it something it is clearly not, in my book you´ve made a fake.
It bears only superficial resemblance to a Goldie if you don´t know much about them - if you do, it's a travesty which, if it had an honest identity, would stand or fall on its own merit.
If you are upping the spec to discs, (I know, drum brakes are expensive to make) then why stick with spokes, tubes and puncture outfits?
Those who enjoy riding this bike would find a real Goldie, with its close ratio gearbox, a very difficult and demanding ride, and dealing with a set of points or a carburettor would not go well by the roadside.
Your warning lights can be operated via Bluetooth if fitted, your dealer knows where you are, your mileage, and can encourage you to visit by flashing all your warning lights at once. It happened to my Honda until I tinfoiled the Bluetooth internals. He can probably cut the ignition if you are on HP and fail on a payment.
No wonder you ride the real BSA.

Yes, it's only a modern copy of the original gold star, but to people like me who cannot afford the real thing or want to use it as daily bike, then it's as close as we can get to the real thing.👍

At least you won't be maintaining a Lucas Magdyno, that used to be as much work as the rest of the bike put together.
You won´t need to 12 volt it, fit a better (Triumph) clutch or start searching for green brake linings ......
Yes, I´d do the same except I´m now "old enough" to ride a scooter.

It's doable with no rear sets, but brings on cramp quicker than that of having rear sets, unfortunately, no one makes them yet for this BSA is that new.

You cannot compare proper BSAs with a badge engineered Mahindra hybrid and your statement about how it sounds it sounds nothing like the proper thing you cant replicate the sound of a low reving long stroke engine with a short stroke higher reving engine. I am not saying the bike doesnt look good but on all fronts it is not remotely a comparison with the proper goldy

Unfortunately, it's the price you have to pay for a single 650 nowadays, because of new emissions.
BSA could have copped out and made a twin like Enfield or triumph, but think this single engine is better to look at and you don't notice the rad when you own one,👍
