The Left never recuses themselves. The Right needs to stop recusing themselves as well. Fair justices should be fair justices. If a justice cannot be impartial, then they should step down from the bench.

I think the rules for SCOTUS justices are different from the rules for lower court justices. Partly because there's so few of them and partly because they cannot be placed under any code of ethics unless they voluntarily submit to it and hold themselves individually accountable.

Regarding your rainbow flashlight scenario, what would actually occur is that the faster you travel, the slower the rest of the universe gets. If you could look back at the flashlight, you would never actually see the pulses reverse their sequence, but they would begin to slow down the faster you went. You could never begin to actually outrun the beam of light... it left before you did, and it is actually going infinitely fast (and you are not).
You would continue seeing the pulses of light from the flashlight _in the correct order_ - red, orange, yellow, green, etc. However, they would slow down. They would no longer appear to be 1 second pulses. If you had your own stopwatch to time the pulses, it'd seem like they were taking longer than 1 second.
From your point of view, it would be exactly like you were trying to outrun something that's going infinitely fast - you can go as fast as you want, with no limit, but you can never actually begin to outrun it. It's only to an outside observer that you would appear to be flirting with C, but never actually able to reach it.

More call-in shows and mansplaining please.
Edit: In all seriousness, I understand I might have upset people tonight but it was meant as harsh love. I've been changing small things about myself for the past two years. Maybe some examples can clarify what I was getting at.
At 33, I realized I don't really like excessive swearing (some is a necessity of life, obviously), but I was one who swore excessively! So that is something I work on now. People who are the same will now see that about me, when before they couldn't. That might be something I need to assess during the dating stage going forward. How much of a red flag is it for me? Can I reframe my perspective to find it less of a red flag (maybe it's a job or something else)? Are there green flags that I find so much more attractive that I can overlook it entirely and not get resentful? If so, what might those be?
Small thing, really, but massive shift in perspective downstream.
At 32, I realized when I stop consuming sugar, I feel better and lose pounds. Mind blown. All else equal that was worth 10 pounds. Lol, what! And now I get a few more looks, that's new. Hey, that losing sugar thing wasn't too hard, and had the benefits of feeling better (self care) and an uptick in looks (mate attraction). HOLD UP, are there other things like that I can do, maybe simple at first, to feel better and be more attractive? I'm guessing yes. Enter research and experimentation. Apparently there's this thing called a gym...sounds alright...
So, by paying attention to how my mind (swearing) and body (sugar) react a little to change, I now have a slightly clearer path forward to not only attracting more choices, but specifically more choices that I will find attractive. This second part has not happened to the TikTok video ladies and they don't know why. As we men tried to mansplain before, there can be a few reasons how this happened:
    1. You REALLY knew what you wanted in a mate, did what was supposed to be the best way to attract that type of mate, only to find you are attracting types you don't want. Your user manual was faulty.
I am more sympathetic to this situation, like the girl from the first Walsh clip. She really wanted to be a real man's woman, followed what she thought was the correct manual for him, and we saw the end. These are the, "I did everything and still feel like I got nothing" videos.
    2. You DIDN'T REALLY know what you wanted in a mate. You still attract men, you are a woman after all. But you don't know why your "mates:dates" ratio is high. Since you don't know what fish you like, you can't consciously change your lure to attract different fish. You are putting the same lure out everytime you fish. Sooner or later, there accumulates a list of "things" why you don't want that fish anymore. What these "things" are don't matter, because you will blame everything except the lure.
I'm less sympathetic to this situation. These are the arrested development versions of situation 1 who have the "I am the prettiest most deserving lure" attitude, and then asking why am I getting the same fish every time without adjustments. These are the, "All men are trash/why do men use me and leave/why do I hate the new one after a week every time" videos.
Men see both these types of videos and can have one of two different reactions to either. One is essentially, "your user manual was faulty, dummy!" and the other is "your user manual was faulty, and I'm so sorry this happened to you."
What's the common factor here? The faulty user manual.
Now ask yourself ladies, REFLECT, what do you know about how men think, and how do you know it? When you ask men how to get a man, is their advice more similar to your married friends' or to your single friends'? Have you wondered why that is?
This all boils down to why you need to self reflect. If you don't know what you want, chip away at what you don't want. Reminder that I didn't realize I found excessive swearing unappealing until I was 33, having done it myself up to that point.
Bonus example of my journey (thanks for reading this far):
Part of my research/experimenting to break my smoking habit is to ask anyone who has quit what their story is, and less so any tips. Meant to ask Joe his story but misspoke and said tips, but HAIL, he delivered anyway, and it was a little scary.

My advice to younger people looking for others is ... don't.
      Instead -
Give of yourself though volunteering. Tudor kids in reading or math, help out at a soup kitchen. You may not meet THE future mate, but her meddling aunt may be a volunteer who noticed you. Even if that fails, you've helped a kid read or multiply and you've fed the hungry. Not a bad gig.
btw - Your generosity with gift memberships is noted, MasterPhillips - I hope you find a generous heart gal in your near future.
Sincerely, the reader with that horrible post-cold cough.

@wills1mudder Thank you! My ex wife and I were not looking for each other at all when we met (neither had smart phones back in 2011), and I think ideally, that is the way to go. It is defintely exciting. A mutual friend/relative has "research" on both parties so they are in a unique position to start the ball rolling, so to speak.
And, I'll be real, I had 8 great years (and some) with a gal who was THE one for me at the time. We were equal in relationship maturity at the start, very little, so we were learning about each other and ourselves constantly. Then we got to the point where we were both more "fully formed" though I dislike that phrase for lack of a better one. We still operated on the same page, but we started diverging more on what we wanted the rest of our books to look like. After the most difficult conversation we've ever had about us, we concluded we were hanging on to something we didn't want anymore, even though there was no resentment or lacking of love. We were laughing through tears by the end, to give you an idea how well we got along regardless the situation.

Joe you're hung up on this whole "you can't go faster than the speed of light, if you did you'd go back in time" thing. You can't go faster than the speed of light. You also can't go back in time. The whole 'if [impossible thing] then [other impossible thing]" hypothetical is a complete red herring.
The speed of light is _infinity._ What we observe as the maximum speed of light is merely the speed at which the universe propagates raw information.
If you were able to build a spaceship that continuously accelerated - say it's powered by a nuclear reactor that will continuously produce power (and therefore thrust) for millions of years - and if you were riding on the spaceship, from your point of view you _would_ continue to accelerate infinitely. You would _not_ find that you're limited by the speed of light; your velocity would be the simple product of the amount of thrust and the duration. However, from your point of view, the rest of the universe would gradually begin to slow down. As your speed approached infinity, the surrounding universe would approach a standstill. From an _outside_ point of view, however, you would gradually appear to approach the speed of light, never quite reaching it - because the outside observer is actually observing the information about you which is flowing through space and time, and the speed at which that information moves is C.
If you were able to somehow reach C - which, I repeat, is not some "speed limit", it is _infinitely_ fast from _your_ point of view, so you could _never_ reach it, but supposing you could - you would instantly become trapped in that single point of time, just like a photon. To an outside observer, you would appear to be moving at the speed of light. But to you, _you_ would not experience time at all. The last moment in time that you experienced would be the point at which you reached infinity. After that, you'd either hit something with catastrophic results, or you'd continue to exist trapped in that single point in time for what to anyone else in the universe will appear to be forever, while the "news" of this remarkable event rippled across the universe at the speed of C forever, just like a photon.

You misunderstand Joe. Time isn't a thing that exists its a measurement system to rate motion. "Stubbornly persistent Illusion" are words Einstein used to describe it. A general gist of relativity is that the potential amount of energy in anything is constant and how it interacts with an environment is relative to the objects' innate properties, the environments properties and the perspective of the observer. The whole point about time speeding up and slowing down was that it's a matter of perception. He was proving that time is not a constant in the universe. Sci-fi takes that and runs with time is malleable and could be changed. Because it is fun and imaginative and we all have a time we'd like to change, so it is a relatable story. But in truth what it shows is time is an artifice and in some circumstances how we draw time is insufficent to measure and describe what is going on in the universe. E=mc2 is showing that even something that travels linarly slowly like matter under the right pressures can move as fast as light. That the potential energy in matter is still there even when it is bound in physical bonds and that it can be unbound. The point of relativity is that there is no set start and stop points by which to measure all spans and motions. This is because even your start point is changing as you use it to measure other points. Outside of a functional "field of view" once you enter the margin of error all measurement systems are inadequate. And although I think Einstien made a mistake metaphorically calling time a fourth dimention which has driven an entire sci-fi industry and confused people about the nature of time ever since, he was trying to communicate a theory which like the universe itself has no beginnings or ends and which touches on all things. Don't be too hard on him. The only thing harder to accomplish than figuring everything out, is then explaining it all.

  • @tonykearney3806

Since time is the movement of matter, you would have to become a being of non-matter to have the possibility to travel in time.

I have an explanation for the speed of light limit.

  • @FirstLast-gw5mg
    @FirstLast-gw5mg 3 месяца назад

"a beam of light from the sun takes roughly eight and a half minutes to reach the earth"
From an outside observer's perspective, yes, it takes roughly 8 1/2 minutes.
"so whatever light we see from the sun is basically 8 minutes old"
No. It is not "old". From the photon's perspective, it is frozen in time and moving at infinite speed.
A photon has no age or lifespan. It blinks into and out of existence - it _exists_ - in only a single point in time. It is only from an outside observer's perspective does the photon appear to move, and we observe it to move at the speed of light, because that is the speed at which the fabric of the universe propagates the information about the photon's existence.
What we see as a "photon" is just the fabric of the universe propagating the fact "this photon exists" at the speed of light.
