Rock *_do_* have a natural predator,
*PAPER*
😅
But is paper a "natural" predator? Sure, it's mostly made of wood pulp or other plant-based natural fiber, but as far as I know, paper doesn't exist in nature, so there's an argument to be made that it's a genetically engineered predator akin to all the specialized breeds of hunting dog made for game that wolves would be ill suited to prey on.
Also Birds can swallow Pet Rocks that were just born. They'll use those poor little Babies to digest their Food better😢
And Spock. Spock vaporises rock.
Teehee :) I actually had a "Pet Rock" in 1980. It could do tricks: "stay", "play dead", "sit" and, with a little help "roll over".
My pet rock forced me and Abe Lincoln to do battle with a Kligon and Gengis Khan.
The funny thing is, I would not put it past Sci-Show to actually seek out the origin of the concept of pet rocks.
That is definitely where I thought this video was going for the first 30 seconds, and I look forward to if they do a serious take on it.
That's probably a Tangents episode.
It inspired me to do just that-one man named Gary Dahl apparently thought it up and became a millionaire off it. Reportedly, he had the idea in a bar while listening to his friends complain about their pets, and allegedly, he made enough to set up his own bar. According to the Museum of Play (which is a random website I discovered down this rabbit hole, and commented about already, haha), he bought the original Pet Rocks from his local building store, which sourced them from San Rosarita Beach in Mexico. So you could actually still get an "original" Pet Rock (kind of-it's a beach, I imagine the tide moves things around a bit, but it's at least the same ecosystem).
@@levilukeskytrekker +
@@levilukeskytrekker😹😹yep he walked away with a cool $15 million in just 6 months in 1975 😹😹
Make sure to tumble your pet rocks. They love getting smooth and polished.
This is actually false, polishing that fast is painful for rocks, and should be done very slowly.
@@garethhughes7430It depends on the breed, really. Some types love tumbling but it can be painful for other types!
I was gonna like this comment, but the number of likes it already had seems noice
Instructions unclear, put pet rocks in the dryer to tumble dry and broke my dryer :(
I don't think they make a tumbler big enough for my eldest's pet rock. It looks like granite and is almost the size of a human head.
For first time Pet Rock owners, I encourage them to check out their local Rock Shelter for any young pebbles that need new homes. These wild Pet Rocks are a cool find and exciting to own for experienced keepers, but they can be a little too rough around the edges for novices.
😂⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😂
Rescues are the best!
What an April Fools plot 😂 very creative
I thought it was April Fools, but then I saw them moving about
Seems foolproof
MOVIE MAGIC
I don't care what people say about this channel, so I'll say this.
SciShow, you all ROCK!!!
It was funny at first, but then the stop motion was simultaneously funny, cute, and really well done!
I can just imagine this popping up in auto play in six months and confusing everyone
i had to euthanise my pet rock last year. terminal case of the crumbles complicated by a mild case of the cracks. she's buried in the same garden i first found her.
My sincere condolences. Sadly the corrosis is going to come back this year too, they said.
You should actually send out pet rocks for this month's Rock Box. Everyone needs a mineral friend or two.
They should 100% do this!
I actually found myself feeling really disappointed when he said there was a "real" video coming because I was getting excited for a pet rock with a Rocks Box-style info/care card
I have a bunch of wild pet rocks already, all of them millions of years old. Since they're so old, they tend to just sit around all day.
I had my rock genetically tested and it's from the Moon
Oh no! I made the mistake of giving mine a litter box, and now I can't find it in there! 😱
🤣
This is the best darn April Fools joke I've encountered in years!
It took me embarrassingly too long to realize what was happening. Well played SciShow, love it.
I thought they were all, the kind with wobbly eyes. I guess those must be a subspecies. I'm glad we don't have to worry much about the rocks uprising, that happens so rarely and slowly, that most of us will be safe. But much like the avian dinosaurs, rocks are mostly known from the sounds they make. From the Ringing Rocks of Montana, to the Singing Sand of Bete Grise. But of course, the sound most of us recognize most is when they get together into rock groups, and preform their Rock and Roll concerts. 😉
hehe
What you need to do, to keep your pet rock content and purring, is also adopt a Great Canadian House Hippo. The House Hippo instinctually will seek out bits of drier lint and old socks, so the House Hippo and rock can have a nice cozy nest behind the stove, or under the dishwasher (either is an acceptable habitat).
They're also great for home defense.
The neighborhood dog will water most pet rocks free of charge
So will your pet rats.
Couldn't house train mine kept leaving sand everywhere. Still haven't got it all out of the backpack.
I was going to go full social media destructoid when I saw there were no airholes poked in the top..
never take your pet rock swimming
Even if it's pumice?
I made this mistake once and little Saxum just sunk and because I could not distinguish him from wild rocks littering the river floor, I adopted as many as I could carry. My turtle enjoyed his new friends and assisted them in moving about their shared enclosure.
You are the undisputed champions of April Fool’s Day
Nope lancaster farmings helicopter manure spreder wins. had whole air force base working the particulars.
And here I thought they were just science fiction, like that weird episode of Star Trek.
It's probably a good thing he said it's an April Fools joke, because some people would believe it otherwise. For AFD I made flashlights with "dark mode", and no matter how ridiculous I tried to make it sound, a couple people still thought it was real.
i remember that someone sued the company because his pet rock died.
The rock isn't actually as exciting as your necklace/ chain. noice
I've tried to play fetch with pet rocks over the years, but they keep going feral and at this point they've become an invasive species.
What kind of shots do you need for a rock bite?
A mineral spirit shot or cocktail.
I was raised in a low income household during the pet rock era.
I was forced to capture a free range rock, and domesticated and house trained it all by myself.
hank dripped out fr with that cuban link sheesh
Happy April fools day🎉🎉🎉
I initially thought it was an April Fools, but then I witnessed these rocks moving about
I have a pet rock. Been with me since 2006. Held my sheet music in place for marching band. Best friend I could ask for.
Don't forget the Punk Rocks 💚
Something to note as well, some rocks seem to need a lot of solitary time while others seem to constantly seek out the company of other rocks. It's helpful to supervise your rocks and if you happen to have more a more social one and a more solitary one it is important to make sure the social one will agree to leave the solitary one alone at times. Easy ways to do this are including the more social one in your daily tasks or spending time with it, like having it sit on your lap as you watch youtube or teaching it tricks like sit, play dead, or roll over. They typically need a little help with the last one. And providing the solitary one with more hiding spots such as a cave formation or a pile of leaves, twigs, and moss.
I completely fell for that. I knew the pet rock thing was a joke, but I had really hoped you had actually tracked down the source for the original pet rocks. I would have paid real dollars to get a pet rock from you guys.
I really appreciate how you list your patrons alphabetically by first name. Thank you.
I love the effort that went into this, thank you so much.
This is probably my favorite April Fools Day joke for this year.
I honestly love you guys so much, this is simply THE best thing I've seen for the specific date.

Yyyyyyyup!
Thank you for the clarification at the end. I was watching this thinking it was some kind of land hermit crab that used rocks for a shell. Especially when it was said in the beginning that it was a marketing thing, and sea monkeys were basically a marketing thing too.
This is the best and cutest April Fool's joke of the whole day. And taken how jokes do not translate well online, it's been really really messy! 🤗🤩😭
Biboo: "Pebbles ROCK OUT!!🗿🗿🗿"
I was very confused for a while. 😂 Also, awesome outfit, Hank! 👏
The oil company in King Kong (1976) is called PETROX, and that's probably my favorite subtle reference to these things.
Oh lordy that outfit! The 70s called but not even they want that. :)
My boi is BLINGING with that gold chain; had no idea sci show was making so much loot.
My mind was totally blown on this wonderful 1st of April. Gee, thanks Sci Show. CTM (chucking to myself - i don't really laugh out loud as it might scare my pet rocks since they are a little skiddish.)
I love the little stop motion for the pet rocks
Best video scishow has ever done
pet rocks are amazing companions.
I actually have a few of these in my aquarium. Picked them up when I visited my bro in Missoula. They made my carry-on pretty heavy lol but they look fantastic submerged. Brings out the colors and stripes of otherwise dull looking stones
When taking your pet for a walk (or roll), the greatest enjoyment can be realised, if, before setting off and, indeed during the walk / roll, you get really stoned.
I had a Pet Rock back in the late 70s or 1980. I still have it somewhere, I got it because it was on sale and i thought it was so crazy it might become a collectable
I had a pet rock as a kid. I think it ran away with my Mexican jumping bean, because they both disappeared one day when I was at school. The leash I'd made for it out of gimp still hangs on my office's bulletin board. Trying to hold out hope, that one day they'll come home.
I love this detailed and delightful dive into our favorite critters! Thanks! 😂
We need this in our lives. More of this.
Wow!! I'll HAVE to get one of these on April 1st!!!!!
I bought five of them, and they formed a Rolling Stones tribute band.
After Hank hung out with Flyana boss he decided to go fully into the hip hop lifestyle!
That was pretty good. I had almost forgotten about the pet rocks.
Im surprised it wasn’t mentioned, but of course, they also enjoy rock music.
Lol! April 1st is almost over here, so I was pleasantly surprised with this video. 🙂
This was adorable, I loved it
LOve this clever tribute to the ever-present sediments .
I see that your new curly hair has finally gotten to you, Hank😆
Love you Hank. :)
They are minerals Hank!
Sci Show Rocks
This ranks up there with the House Hippo in cuteness and plausible reality in a cooler parallel universe lol
I remember first seeing "pet rocks" in stores as a kid. My sister & I thought it was a great idea, but why buy when you can adopt? We soon found some stray rocks in our neighborhood that needed homes...
For a second I thought Hank was serious.
😹😹😹I still have my pet rock, found him on a weekend trip away with the family over 40 plus years ago, he has even traveled half way around the world from the UK to Australia 😹😹, was there any children from the 70’s who did not have a pet rock😹😹😹
This was so cute! 😊❤
"Rocks are alive" said the boy.
"SciShow said so"
April fool videos always get me because I forget it's April 1st
Oh, hilarious! I love it! I'm going to have to try to adopt a pet rock now. I just hope I can find one that likes me and my lifestyle! 😂😂😂
Groovy, man!
I can't breath. This was great LMAO
this is awesome, cant wait to get my pet rocks!
Rocks with eyes on them are so cute!! Who knew lol
Damn, these videos move at 100+ views/minute!
Love the Everything Everywhere All at Once reference
Is this an April fools video 😂😂😂😂
I love it
I thought this video would be about a plant or animal that mimics a rock like that once succulent
I thought this video would be about a plant or animal that mimics a rock like that once succulent
Living rocks just like everything everywhere all at once
Gotta love that gold chain.
My sister is a crazy pet rock lady. She has literally buckets of rocks stashed in and around her house.
I forgot about April Fools and now I’m overwhelmed by disappointment.
What a cute episode to get kids. unto the ol'timy hobby!
ROCK ON 🪨
I was ready for microbes making rocks their home akin to corals 😅
Love the gold chain. Nice touch...
All that will remain...are dreams and memories. That's all.
Going into this completely forgotten about the 1st april 😅 i honestly started to question my knowledge and common sense 🤣😂 good one😂
My pet Rock will the next Rock Star. 🤩
I was so excited there for just a second......
