I love Ray's playing so much! Very much his own voice, but at the same clearly evolved from his influences; a master of his instrument moving the craft forward. I am in awe!
That's not even his set up and he simply takes command! His accuracy is nuts! I'd be hitting alot of rims, but no, Ray is always spot on!

Well after alot of touring and having multiple kits, its pretty normal for drummer like him.
That's the best or one of the best sounding kits I've ever heard in my 38 years playing drums. Gotta have it.

The open hand playing is fabulous. As a beginner I find it so much easier than traditional.
It's a shame it wasn't more caught on 20 years ago. Traditional is far less effective than open playing.
For me its even more interesting when you use double pedal, because the hihat is placed very far from the snare. As the time passes, my back stars hurting. Sorry for my bad english (Brazilian).
@@britojunior5703 I use double pedals on a single kick, but also I use a 13 inch high hats. But I've really never found any problem from playing open handed for a long time. But if you're playing a double bass then I can see what the problem might be.
The first time I sat at a kit I wanted to play open instinctually. I was told that was wrong and never pursued kit. That still irritates me

@@carle3985Ah, the double pedal - that was for sound consistency, Alex used a triggered kick layered with the acoustic.
More metal drummers use double pedal on two bass drums than would admit to it. Two kicks looks cooler but one is easier to tune!
