Great clip. Thanks! Nena is interesting on a few levels. She has a charming innocence. The stage is a dance floor in a club and she is dancing to the music. The fact that she is creating that music is almost an after thought until those closeups. She uses natural facial expressions to “sell” the lyrics. She is feeling what she is delivering vocally and feeling the music expressed in her freestyle dance moves. There’s nothing contrived. She’s completely natural. No rehearsed or choreographed moves here. This is interesting because the story goes Nena was “discovered” dancing in a club by the Stripes guitarist and was asked to join that band. (I am sure there’s a bit more to that story). Finally, “Nena” the band are very good. They provide a very polished professional sound as excellent musicians and this provides a nice contrast to Nena’s slightly amateurish innocence. I love watching and listening to all this.
@@boredweegie553 Yes. The band took the name of the singer who’s nickname was “Nena” at the time. Nena performs under that Name as a solo artist to this day. Blondie wasn’t a nickname for Debbie Harry and few if any refer to Ms Harry as “Blondie.” Then or now.
I would call Nena an ideal frontman and at the same time a master of improvisation. Her active demeanor, danceability and overall cheerful aura provide a good balance with the rather complex instrument playing of the other band members.
She already had two TV appearances with her first band "The Stripes" in 1979. With the "Nena Band" she already had a TV appearance a month earlier than this one in a TV show called "Musikladen".
