Sure its fancy if Boeing designs the interior... but every airline will change it to turn these planes into "people packers" and the interior will be just like every other airliner in service.
What i don't understand is why not use standalone units for each passenger that are way more efficient, and use some sort of media server for movies and internet and what not?
corisco tupi Actually, that's exactly what it doesn't seem to be. If they were individual units that were streaming from a server, you'd just be concerned about whether the system can keep up with everyone watching a movie at the same time. But why would you care then if the system can cope with everyone doing at the same time a task that has nothing to do with the server (like pausing, or playing a game)?
Cristi Neagu Maybe they are worried with burst throughput when everybody unpauses at the same time? I can't imagine a worse setup than a central CPU with centralized media and hundreds of distributed interface objects (play, pause, volume, left, right, buttons, etc)... I was just giving the designers the benefit of the doubt but you do have a valid point.
On my Delta flight, we had to wait for someone transferring from another flight, so our in-flight entertainment systems were activated, and whenever a flight attendant used the comms, the TV displayed a message "Announcement in progress" and I was watching a movie when the safety video was activated, and whenever a comm like the ones that flight attendants use to tell the entire plane something the screen paused and displayed the message so that's why they need to do this test because when the comms are used all the screens enter pause ether in a movie or in a game (yes the 737-800 has video games on the Tvs at least on delta) but I think a mass manual pause uncommanded by the flight crew has a different load on the system and its a lot more
And what happens when you push that Lithium Ion Battery to the limit? It catches fire, explodes, and your plane goes down with all lives onboard just because you want more power.
Why nobody speaks about having more room? Its ok you got room in first class but that is not for most people. Very modern, very efficient but still can fit a 190 cm person in the eco class...
I don't understand why they keep building planes with passenger windows. I would think that elimination of the windows would have a lot of positive benefits. There would be weight savings and certainly might lead to a quieter aircraft. With each passenger having its own entertainment monitor several cameras could provide better information for those that like to know what they're flying over.
+lcoleman45 The windows are the only reason I fly. I don't travel much, so the incentive to get on a plane would be to look out the window and enjoy the scenery. Also, I've been cramped in a windowless C-17 before; the effects of motion without visibility make the ride much worse. There are companies who are toying with your theory though. This is a supersonic transporter that's playing with the idea of using a display for windows. www.upi.com/Science_News/Technology/2014/02/19/Proposed-supersonic-plane-to-do-without-windows-video-screens-instead/79151392846583/
haha, I love testing stuff, breaking things, and making developers cry :) The only way to make sure things work when it counts!
Sure its fancy if Boeing designs the interior... but every airline will change it to turn these planes into "people packers" and the interior will be just like every other airliner in service.
why would Boeing do this test? Why wouldn't Panasonic be testing their own system?
i really like the windows! i thought they were flying at night, but no, the dimmed windows are just that good
I love the 787
CEO of airbus just climaxed
WOAH, the 787 looks amazing! I want to fly it!
Insane! im really an airbus fan but i always loved the 777 and now the 787. Id love to fly in this one day!
Boeing you make me proud!
That must be boring but nice "I'm fast forwarding it" lol!
Cool video. Good job
That engineer is cute :)
Let's hope the 797 will be a revamped 727 of dreamliner standard...
Mmm interesting... So they are locally wired to each compunent. Would be fun to hack and play rick roll - never gonna give up
As an average periodic consumer of trans-oceanic flights I can't wait to fly on this. Looks ages ahead of the competition.
0:21 if you look closely , you will se a panic grandpa :)
I like the colorful LEDS
WOW! I can't wait until United gets one of these!
Boeing should build houses with features the 787 has.
Brooke is a cutie. I only wish I took long range flights to be able to fly on one of these when the US gets them!
I hope not haiga overheating problems with such entertainment features!!!!
Congratulations on your new Boeing 787
That IFE is epic
Wish I could fly on that thing. I wonder if there is Wi-Fi
On many 787s, such as the klm 787s, they do have wifi
+Daniel Dankers But don't expect much. Everyone will be using it so... I don't think it's going to be fast.
Matthew Clifford A friend of mine flew on a 787, he said the wifi was ok
Awesome !
What i don't understand is why not use standalone units for each passenger that are way more efficient, and use some sort of media server for movies and internet and what not?
That is just what it seems to be. Each station has its own CPU, and content is streamed from a central server. Why would they do it differently?

Thomas Harbauer You can just as well have independent units and tell them to pause, or display this or that.
Do you mean Orville and Wilbur Wright, you know, the other brothers.
I only care about those big windows and the awesome LED lights hahaha!!
My dream will be to fly in one of these one day too bad im a kid with no money :(
Cool!!
I Hope to travel in this beauty someday ! :)
I actually thought that was Justin Beiber at 1:13

+TheLoneVolfe I don't remember any 787 falling down bc of the batteries
+TheLoneVolfe But w9 m8! Phones,Laptops dont have a lithum baterry
will these features be installed only by the carriers choice, or will they be standard on ALL 787's?
*goes to ask mom if we can go to paris JUST to be in this plane* *gets rejected* *asks to go to paris Disneyland* *for some reason says yes*
A bunch of lucky people... :( -envies-
Very cool!
still sounds really noisy. who said it was the quietest?
WOWWW without words O.O
And if something goes wrong... Does anyone of them have a parachute?
I think Garuda Indonesia should buy this plane to replace the Airbus
WHY I DON'T WORK FOR SUCH AN AWESOME COMPNAY???
Fascinating!
Wasnt this already posted???
look at all those electronic devices being used during flight and takeoff...
@aixichen526 Not airplane is quiet. However, the 787 is the quietest.
@crazym26 If you work at it, you will get there. It can take a long time though.
@Tjita1 The next gen aircraft should be a shorter range aircraft. A 737 replacement. :D
Why nobody speaks about having more room? Its ok you got room in first class but that is not for most people. Very modern, very efficient but still can fit a 190 cm person in the eco class...
Too bad they didn't test the batteries as well as the inflight entertainment system.
