Ford RS200S Full Detail Of Insane Rally Car Legend! $500,000 Group B Rally Car Paint Restoration

- This is a Ford RS200s 1 of 2 ever made in black and is a complete disaster for a car valued at $500,000. It has swirls and scratches from driving through the woods and 100 MPH and in need of its First Wash in Years. I had to polish the black paint which was rock hard and required much more paint restoration than the original plan for this full detail.

My old neighbor (germany) owns one of those. Been living here for 15+ years and never saw it. One month ago he opened his garage and this Beauty stared me right in the eyes.
He never opened his garage in 15 years?
@@tjsands9398i think he didn't show it for his neighbour's but this doesn't mean that he didn't show it for his good friends or familiars. After neighbour's had known this they need to think why not them)))
Ask him is it a 1.8t or 2.1 evolution
I am a janitor as 2nd job. One day a roofer was leaning against one of the 15 garage doors and it popped open.. behind it was a BMW M3 e30 covered in dust. Been there for a couple of years and never seen the owner. Starts to rust but the engine looks brand new. Don't ask me why I know that. 😅
●● by chance Can you purchase the car?
Might be one of the most historically significant and overall special cars I have ever seen on here. I would've went over a bit of it's heritage, because it is truly one of those unicorn cars. You can put pics of the car next to anything you've done in the past like lambos, ferraris, etc, and this would be deserving to be in their company for sure.
Well, he even detailed a McLaren F1 LM and an F1 car
There isn’t a better channel than ammo on RUclips. Most consistent and enjoyable watching out there. Thanks Larry!
Thank you!
@@AMMO-NYC what should I use on carbon fiber wheels? Unpainted …
Love the fact that it is still on its original UK number plates. I seem to remember the Kent Police force used one for a short time as a fully functional patrol car. Great video
It was Essex and it was only a test... more of a publicity stunt if you will. They made it because back then Ford Rally used an old airfield an shared it with the local police force helicopters.
and it has no mot or tax 😂
@@Ein2404 funny that
Police... lol
@@missingremote4388 if you Google rs200 police car there is an image of it pulled up with a 3 door cossie infront of it and then there is a later mickey take image of a new focus rs in police livery pulling over an rs200 😁
This is, by far and away, the car I most desire in the world. If I could just pick any one car, I'd go for an original RS200.
They've been my favorites since one was my favorite Matchbox car back in the day because it rolled the best, and I fell in love with the beauty of them.
That's crazy talk
Such a great way to start a Sunday! Thank you Larry! Amazing transformation.
Larry, I kinda wanna see you and Tavarish do a colab on his flooded McLaren 🤞😊
On a UK plate and still, seemingly, registered in the UK. That’s a rare old thing to have in the US.
Nice to see a group B legend getting some love
No way, this is my ultimate dream car. Far above the F40, F1, Countach, and 2000GT for me.
damn!
That's crazy talk
Man... I didn't know there were any of these in the States.... That's a very rare car and very sought-after in the rally community.
There was one for sale in the Auto Collection in Las Vegas around 2005 at the Imperial Palace Casino. It was one of the 24 Evo models and was for sale for $295,000 (it was left hand drive). The Evo model was the fastest and held the 0-60 mph Guinness world record for over 12 years. The sign on that car for sale said that 0-60 was 2.1 seconds and had over 600+ HP. This from a car made in 1986 no less.
You ever consider putting a retractable curtain up between the hexa-grid bay and the wash bay to save your self from some rework?
It has 1600 miles on it. It's a garage queen.
A dope AF garage queen. Insane car. The suspension is nuts--pure racecar.
The greasy film is from vaping
Also could just be from that greaseball owner sitting in it?
Parabéns ao brasileiro que alcançou o posto de serviço nessa estética automotiva que a muitos anos gosto de acompanhar o serviço! Incrível como todos os valores são diferentes no primeiro mundo!
This car made driving into crowds a thing before Mustangs 💀
(1986 Portugal Rally)
Oh come on man
For several years I had the opportunity to see the B group running in Portugal, I went for several years with my father to see the double passages in the central region of Portugal. Since Joaquim Santos' RS200 accident in Sintra, it has never been the same.
🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹
The carpets are glued as the cars were not built to any standard, they were literally thrown together to meet the homologation rules. There was no thought to making a premium fit or finish on them, it was all about performance. Nearly every one that's left is on much better condition than they were when they were originally sold.
Also it's really strange (but funny) seeing a right hand drive car on UK plates in your workshop, the familiar in an unfamiliar setting!
Amazing video! I love the fact that there were only 2 black ones made ever, which makes this video more enjoyable to watch knowing that this car is super rare! Awesome work! Keep up the amazing work Larry!
That man's handshake. 😂
Ive been WAITING 4 days for this!!!!
Another great video Larry! I recently purchased your Mud Tire Gel. Hands down the best tire dressing I’ve ever used!
This is one of my favorite cars. So cool to see it in so much detail.
you sir have great taste!
Didn’t come with floor mats incase the mats come loose and got stuck between the peddles, going over 100mph and that happens not gonna end well
Group B, "Killer B's" responsible for more injuries and deaths than any previous Road Rallye racing vehicle group. That's driver's, navigators and spectators. The Group cars were insanely fast and back in that Era, 70s into the 80s, fans and spectators lined roadways as cars screamed by at insane speeds just feet away. The accidents were horrific and led to changes which included a ban on the "Killer Bs" in international events and moving crowds back off the roadways. Banning the cars was easy. Moving the crowds back, not so much.
the RS200 was my favourite car growing up, I remember my dad taking me to a WRC stage in England and seeing these fly past me, amazing
1:21 bro gave him an atomic handshake
Great video.👍 The carpets are probably glued in as the RS200 was never intended as a road car. When they were banned from competition at the end of '86, the remaining cars went to Tickford to have interior trim put in them. Iirc they were around £50000 when new. Not cheap at the time. This is on British number plates. Anything with a C prefix denotes it was registered between August 1985 and July 1986. The originals had the 1.8l BDA and the Evo versions had the Brian Hart developed 2.1l. Nice example.👍
strange fact, the cars were mostly built at Reliant in Tamworth near Birmingham, this was due to the RS 200's having kevlar reinforced glass fibre bodies, the reliant group used Glass Fibre on most of their cars including the infamous Reliant Robin 3 wheeler as seen in the BBC comedy 'Only fools and horses'
They weren't built by Reliant. The were assembled by ford in an ex Reliant factory in Shenstone.
@@Andyc351 and who made the bodies for the RS200
@@MrDavidfball Yes reliant manufactured the body panels.
@@Andyc351 very little on the rs200 is direct from ford even its RS division, Interiors were sourced from Recaro, the Engines were built and developed by Cosworth, the bodies were built and attached by reliant, so basically the only parts Ford made would have been the Chassis and maybe suspension parts though those were probably made to order by a 3rd party.
@@MrDavidfball saying they were mostly built by Reliant in Tamworth is wrong. They they were assembled by ford employees in a leased factory in Shenstone. Some of the body panels were manufactured by Reliant, That's the extent of Reliants involvment.
Great video of a great car... Yet another piece of British automotive history ending up in America.
it's funny it has number plates, but never had an MOT or tax )))
Saw an Evo version of these being driven HARD at a Rally Festival here a couple of months back, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a car accelerate so hard. I’m sure it was an illusion, but it seriously looked like it was accelerating harder than the F1 cars I see each year. People who have spent their whole life around fast cars were taken aback at just how quickly it picked up speed.
So, so special that to this day, you can buy a gameified version in Grand Theft Auto. Holds it's own amongst a sea of modern supercars. Mental, stupid, crazy and amazing.
Wowsers, this is stunning! I have very little idea about the technicalities of what you guys do, and I'm guessing that there's a lot more to it than this video suggests. I thought I was a 'car clean freak' myself (until I watched this video), so this kind of work is eye candy for me. I have to admit, I came here for the RS200, but the detailing and end result is 100% worth a subscribe.
In case you were unfamiliar, Larry, these were famous for killing a couple of their drivers and are often credited as "the car that killed Group B rally." These were 600hp early AWD monstrosities that were too much to handle for most drivers, especially in a rally environment where spectators crowded the track, and sometimes entered it.
That would explain the stinky stress sweat.
Let’s be fair here Kate…
The cars weren’t responsible for ‘killing spectators’… it was the organisers of the rallies in those days who were responsible for the lack of crowd control.! Rally cars are even quicker in 2023 than the Group B cars were. The fact is, there’s much improved spectator crowd control these days (and nights)
@@burnerog If we're truly being fair, I didn't say they killed spectators, did I? I said they killed a couple of their drivers.
I explicitly named the spectators as partly responsible for their fates in relation to the RS200 crash that killed a bunch of them, bc the driver had to try to avoid some who had entered the track. The fact is that yes, it was the responsibility of the race organizers, but also of those who literally walked out onto the track for the most dramatic views.
And while the power is higher and speeds are faster today in some respects, the critical difference is that they are using computer controlled stability and AWD programs that dramatically improve stability and handling for the drivers behind the wheel. These cars were significantly less advanced at the time, AND it was the first season that such absurd power had been put to the test, where drivers have also learned to better control it.
Question. Are you worried about getting stuff on that countach, or if you have another car parked there, while power washing?
My dad worked for Reliant motor cars, because Reliant were built in fibreglass Ford had several Reliant employees work on the RS200 because of their knowledge and working history of fibreglass.
I have a photo somewhere with my dad stood in front of 3 RS200’s just about to be loaded onto a transporter. Think they were £55,000/$68000 new.
One of the coolest cars you’ve had on your channel over the years. Incredible work as always!
My all time favourite car….. grew up in the 80s and loved seeing these on the tv. Seen a few over the years at Various Ford shows. Great job Larry.
probably been asked already...but...do you not ever worry about overspray getting on the lambo next to the car you are working on?
Larry is the master at controlling product/spray. I am sure he has no worries at all.
Larry you need to put Ammo Studio stickers on like the car dealers did in the 70s - on the back of car and impossible to remove😂
Lol
I watched a video about Harley Davidson earlier, I was delighted.I decided to buy myself almost the same.I will post a video of detailing on my channel and mark you to be appreciated
Wow not many of those Fords left as they were prone to killing drivers who gave it some wellie and lots of them were wrapped round trees and lamp posts . Beautiful car though . Thank you for sharing it with us .
Thats not sweat. Its adhesive and foam residue. The seat foam and glues are basically deteriorating. This car has only covered about 1000 miles in its 37 year life.
Been waiting for the RS200 detail video for some time and it's definitely well worth the wait!
As always, I enjoyed it so much.^^
I send a link. People say this is better than using any kind of wax on the car because you have swell circles to be removed.
What do you think about this Item
Great Seinfeld joke HAHHAHA
How many get the “and another one” phrase?
Rest easy Ken, every time I see one of these now I'm reminded.
It's pretty good in the Grand Turismo video game but slightly underpowered. Still a beautiful car.
I've learned so much from this channel, I treat my cars so differently now. Almost to a fault though, similar to when you learn how movies are made, you then start to analyze everything you see. For instance, I was watching a video yesterday of RUclipsr Schmee. He drove a few of his cars to a viewing meetup, and it was raining and his cars gathered tons of soil and rocks. In the video, he was moving the rocks and soil off with a dry cloth, spreading it over the paint with no lubrication. I almost had to turn the video off because it was hurting my mind so much. 😅
Amazing detail as always Larry! Looked like a fun car to work on!
My 1988 Escort XR3i has the same seat fabric, i can now say i almost own an RS200S lol
I"ve been following this channel for awhile and am finally starting to get to my neglected car. A new bunch of new parts and such are on the way. I figured give AMMO a try and dang. I ordered part of what I need to get going and the response to my order was impressively fast. I ordered on my lunch break out here in Oregon and already have a tracking number. This is awesome,, Thank you!
THAT...... Is a Rare Vehicle! Nice Job Larry. Dang.... I wish I had a place like that to do Detailing Stuff. 👍🏼.
Always a pleasure to see your work, very special little car, Rj in Oz
There isn't a more iconic car that you have done a legend in world rally she is beautiful Larry once again awesome job keep on bringing out awesome content 👏 🎉
Was that a Seinfeld reference? “The O didn’t stay with the B”? 😂
I remember reading about this car in a Car Magazine when I was a kid. Rally Royalty!!!
Great job preserving it 🤩
I love the rs200, its a dream car for me, so one day!
and being a short lad also will help hahahahah
That black is crazy. I love it! Composite is very rough. I detailed a black Lotus Elise that was very bad. It took me about a week to do that one. I was so nervous that I'd go through the very thin paint. It looked like it had been detailed before as well. Great tips on the heat transfer on composite surfaces, that is something not too many people think about.
You made my day Larry @ 5.30am👍🇦🇺
That was awesome Larry. Remember the RS200 when they were first rallying and your detailing is outstanding 👍👍👍
Those HANDSHAKES though. Love the car too.
I know right!! Now that’s a damn handshake!! 🤝👌
You just can’t beat a cup of fresh coffee with a new Ammo video to start the day 😮💨💅
You could nerf aa in a lot of ways, reducing the "bubble" size or rotational strength, etc. I play high level on both inputs and its so annoying to know that no matter how good i am on mnk ill always be better on controller because of that 1 missed shot thats difference between winning or losing a gunfight on the high level
Thumbs up if you want vids to include some form of ELAPSED time. I never know how many hours goes into a full detail.
Knocked it out of the park Larry 👍 So nice 👌
Love the content, however I’ve noticed you never use an iron decon spray or clay… is there a reason for this ?
i liked the video JUST for that HANDSHAKE GOOD GOD... (1:20)
I was hoping someone would notice!! That’s a handshake!!!
Beautiful work, Larry!
And a beaut of a pedigree rally car.
What a great episode these cars are so rare even in the uk and to see one on the channel in the US is pretty cool . I see one last year at silverstone in white timeless classic 😀
Never clicked on a video faster. My dream car. Amazing vid as always!
Would have liked to see more footage of the car post detail.
Ammo NYC never disappoints! This is awesome, love seeing cars like this.
So cool, and I know that guy I think! Doing some work on the Audrain collection? Very neat.
Mega car, watched them on the Lombard RAC rally back in the day. The fit and finish and panel gaps on these are horrible! But they were built to go very very fast on mud and gravel. Panel gaps didn't slow them down ! 😆
Somewhere Ken Block is smiling at this.
So much want for this car!!! this is the stuff of petrolhead dreams - an absolute rally legend!
Shame you never got a blast in it on the road.. brilliant video as usual..
There's a frickin Countach in the backgroud, epic!
I'm thinking, why don't they move that out of the way whilst they're doing this car??
Possibly the most important and exciting car you've ever done! Would totally take the Ford over that Lambo - or any Lambo.
Lambos at the end: Sideswipe and Sunstreaker! Autobots - Roll out!
Funny to see a British numberplate on a left hand drive car. Fun fact about our numberplates. "A" registrations came out in the 1970's after black registrations of the 1960's and before. An example would be A197 GRD... B registration followed, all the way to the X reg of the 1990's. Cars in the UK after 2000 had 02 03 04 etc etc numberplates for the March release. (Of note, new numberplates release every March and September. (no numberplates for 2000 and 2001, probably still X registrations). As of September of any year, the registration changes from EK02 EVB to EK52,53,54 EVB (this is an example and not a real numberplate). From 2010 onwards the september registrations changed from something like EK59 EVB to EK60 EVB (for September 2010). For the September 2011 numberplate release an example would be EK61 EVB. September 2012 would be EK62 EVB... as of 2020 British september numberplates had 70 reg, e.g EK70 EVB, EK71 EVB. hope this was useful to the USA commenters on this channel 😅. Any questions just reply and i'll try answer as best as possibel 😅
The question is Larry, when are you getting into the dry ice blasting game?? I’ve never used one and I’m not sure how much one is, but it seems to work wonders. Anyway, car came out great!
Why is my man shaking his hand so aggressively
do u decontaminate? What do u use for it?
So, hate to be that guy but there is no RS200 “S” and there was 146 factory RS200’s. This chassis is number 159 (they skipped a lot of chassis numbers), it is a standard 1.8 non evo model, painted black by Tickford. Originally sold via Ireland to someone in Texas but they died before the car was delivered, it remained in the UK before being exported to the USA 1990 and subsequently returned to the UK a few years later where it was on display in a museum. Seems like it was re-exported to the USA sometime in the early 2000’s under a Nevada title.
Brilliant video.
Now this is a dream car, over anything I've seen you detail. I grew up watching group B, spent many cold 3am starts standing in my local forests here in 🏴 watching rally for many years as it moved on, but I always loved the RS200, even if the 1700T they cancelled for it was dare I say it a little sexier lol.
So for you guys across the pond that don’t know a car from a cow here is a little lesson for you from an Englishman. The RS200 had 1800cc engine with a F off turbo the body was fibreglass and was made by Reliant ( Those crazy cats that made the three wheeled Robin that I’m sure you think we all drive ) It was developed as a group B rally car in the days of the Audi Quattro Delta intergrale and things of that nature. However these cars became capable of over 180mph even close to 200 and the RS200 was an absolute Christine ( put that in for my none English speaking American brothers 😂 ) And subsequently killed a load of spectators when it came off the road as it often did because it was too lite and too fast thus ending the group B rally cars and the greatest racing in history. And if one of you idiots mentions nascar I will personally invade your country and teach you how to speak correctly 😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
"... this is going to require a few days for sure ..." An 11 minute video showing highlights - but not the sweat-equity. I'll spend 6 hours cleaning my truck, or wife's car, not 6 days. I think the vids are outstanding, but as a viewer I see the results, I hear the technical knowledge, but am immune to the work you put into the vehicles you clean. Then you say - "it took me 10 hours to polish the paint...". That's JUST polishing the paint. 10 hours. Wild, simply wild.
I’m from England and i was in a garage somewhere and they had one of these inside on top of their office. Forgot where it was though..
Increible el RS200 de mis favoritos. Consulta Larry, por que no pones una cortina para que no se pulvericen los otros autos que tenes en el Studio? como ese Countach. No se ensucian cuando estas en proceso de limpieza?
Love the fact it’s got the uk plates on
The envy is strong... in just a few episodes you have played with both of my dream cars(yeah i know people dream about lambo and ferrari).. but the GMC syclone and the Ford RS200 is by far the top 2 dream cars in my world.. so special and uniqe.. :)
Awesome work and storytelling!
Indeed - the vast majority of these RS200 cars were white. I remember visiting Ford's Boreham test facility in the UK in the mid 80s and there was a massive hangar on site just full of these, after Group B was canceled!
UK viewer here.. Please would you let us know the details on the registration/number plates, they might either be the supplying dealership name and phone number or perhaps FORD UK?. Thanks.
Group b rally was the sickest form of racing and many cool cars came from it my fav being the Audi Quattro got!, I’m still on the hunt for one, I’ll get one someday!
