Clayton Whitacre I've had a 1990 ch7 same little cat and there is nothing that notifies you when to start and according to cat there is no need to. However, I was just picking when I asked why wait to start because I get asked the same thing all the time because I wait to start mine too out of habit of waiting on glow plugs and I guess since I've done it so much,my mind is just conditioned to wait a few seconds. Just curious what somebody else's reason was.
Caterpillar kinda considered them disposable engines but we have a '94 CAT 950F II with the original engine and it runs like a top... even in the middle of a 3-foot snowstorm. Amazing how far a little maintenance can go.
mines over 15K hours and starts just fine, 7K of which being PTO hours which = about 25 miles of driving per hour of idle time, so effectively at like 600K miles and doesnt even have valve clatter yet
@@MidwestMechanics the blow by and oil slobber said otherwise…. The compression test confirmed. The owner before me didn’t really take great care of it.

Do these 3116 cats actually last?
At 300k this one was really tired and hard to start.
