I got to play a gig with this last night and im really impressed with this controller. the jog wheels are a tad loose and heavy but it was still very easy to manual beat match, the pitch faders are great. I can not decide between this one. And the DDJ1000. The advantage of the DDJ1000 is that it is the same setup you find in a club. But I don't see me performing in any club soon. So for the home DJ. is there one of these you guys recommend when you compare them?
This has already been replaced by the Prime series (though it's still being updated for now), the DDJ-1000 is newer, feels better (better jogwheels) and the MCX8000 isn't that great in standalone so you're not missing much in that regard.
Hey Phil! Thanks a lot for all your efforts about paving the way for DJ'ing. I'm new to all this stuff and I'm about to buy my first DJ controller which I want it to be a standalone. I have an Audio Technica AT-LP-1240 turntable. I want to play & mix from my turntable and also from 1 or 2 separate USB sticks and record them to another device, for example, to an external hard drive. Can I do it only with this controller, without using a laptop? Or would you recommend another controller for this? Thank you, Turgay
@@digitaldjtips You say no, because I said I want to 'record'? I mean, I can PLAY & MIX from my vinyl record and digital tracks from 1 or 2 USB sticks concurrently without a laptop, but cannot RECORD them without a laptop, is that so? Thank you very much for your explanations man!
If you're using real vinyl that's all fine, it's only 2 digital channels in standalone so if you were wanting to use DVS on channels 3/4 you would need a laptop which is why we said no. You can hook up external sound sources and record with something like a Mixbox no problem. We'd recommend the Prime 4 over this though if it's within budget
@@digitaldjtips Thanks a lot Phil! Prime 4 is way over my budget, so I'll consider Pioneer xdi-rr too or something affordable like that. But seeing this has 4 channels, it really looks much more attractive to me.
So if you connect one cdj player, for example channel 3, if you want to use the effects on that channel, you need to change to deck 3 on mcx8000 and then use the effects beneath the screen although the screen provides no information about that channel, track or effects?
One question, is this more of a professional cdj or a controler? if i buy this one and learn it, will i have trouble mixing with other cdjs in a club??
+azpen montazpen Controllers aren't widespread in clubs (yet) so if you're concerned with transitioning from home to club, you might look into something like the Pioneer XDJ-RX or DDJ-RX (or similar) to get a feel for how club gear works. Does this Controller Shows the Wav foams of the Non Analyse Tracks (engine) On USB STICK N SERATO Library on the Controller Displays on USB Stick n Tracks in Serato Library
The jogwheel and the pitch slider on the right seem to me like an issue it dead center with the middle of the jogwheel and it's too close to pitch slider i want to see how person's scratch with the right jogwheel without the pitch fader not getting in the way. Denon should have not done the mirroring decks things i was going for one of these instead of the SX2 but now have to wait and see what Pioneer releases in response to this a SX3 Hybrid or SR2 Hybrid with touch screens usb input separate mic channels and standalone mixer keeping my fingers cross.
I am buying this board but i can tell you that right now i have an NS6 and I have never once had an issue of bumping the pitch control while scratching....i really don't think its an issue with the controller either.

Am I the only person that really don't care about this controller? It's soooo late to the game that it seems like this is an old review. The story of Denon's life is always been a day late and a dollar short. Yes they make great products that are built like a tank, but after 2 yrs of Pioneer slamming the market with every controller possibility out there and consumers that were in the market for a controller already dropping big time money on Pioneer gear,. What makes Denon think that this is even an option anymore for djs? With the DDJ- SZ, SX, RZ, RX, and every other controller like the NV, NS7 II & III and so on... Even if this controller is the best of them all, it's still way too late to the game to make an impact. If Denon was smart they would of been perfecting the 3700/3900 players. That's where they have the market all to themselves and might have a chance to compete. Let's see how long it takes for them to release there turntable that should've been out a yr ago as well to compete with Pioneer's. Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of Denon, and have some of their dj gear, but they are getting killed because they are slow to the market and their marketing sucks.
One thing you're forgeting is that Pioneer is going away from Serato, even if they release another Serato specific controller they will always make it sub-par to the Rekordbox version of it (same as with DDJ-SR vs RR etc). Denon will be there to fill that void - owners of SX or SX2 that don't want to use Rekordbox will upgrade to this (or any future Denon controller) because it will give them standalone playback, better mics, overall build and for less $$$ ;)
Denon...some decades ago..they only made heavy and expensive..real Studio-sound-equipment...in the late 80's...they began to produce produkts for the public market...that's why denon is "Tank" quality... :)

Thank you,
Turgay
You can't do that standalone you'd need to use it with a laptop
One of the best controllers for mobile DJs.
It's solid
great work with denon
:)
i can wait for the price get a litle down
thank you
Does this support other software? (Mixvibes, Traktor, Virtual DJ?)
Thanx
Just Serato DJ and Denon's own Engine software at the moment :)
Actually no, there a mapper for VDJ. But still no screen support (that requires Denon to get involved).
@@digitaldjtips I can use it with virtualdj too.
So if you connect one cdj player, for example channel 3, if you want to use the effects on that channel, you need to change to deck 3 on mcx8000 and then use the effects beneath the screen although the screen provides no information about that channel, track or effects?
+Drcl Qele no. you just choose which effects bank (1 or 2) on the channel and then apply the effects.
Really though, if you learn certain skills, you'll be able to DJ in a club no problem: www.digitaldjtips.com/2015/07/5-essential-skills-for-djing-in-any-situation-on-any-gear/
thanks you a lot
So there are some comments im realy objective because i was thinking about buying these unit..But i didnt do that im very dissapoint about the build of these unit....
Im a Serato user i play every kind of music from DnB House Trap Electro Goa Hip Hop and Scrathing..
Im using
for garden partys and Grill partys outside max 40 person Beatmix 4 with 2 reloops neon (i can go realy crazy is a cheap set up with most funciontality literally you can destroy it on the party and you dont give a fuck )
For Clubs and Barslike 100-500 im turning to classic i have pair of Pioneer plx 1000 Akai amx 2 reloop neon and an old mpd 26 as midi ....
this set up offers me maximum for my dj gigs and for real if you ever attemp scratching forget it on controler ......Vinyl will never die if you have ever chance to try it pls do it you will never forget the felling of touching music
SO NOW LETS GET TO DENON DJ MCX 8000
So first what i have to say that is a realy nice looking controler potentialy every new djs getting to Serato dj programm and have these budget might thing about buing this .... So lets get to + and - of these things
+ perfect connectivity (plug all kinds of external storages ect..)
+stand alone with Engine programm
+nice working space big and solid
+nice lighting around platters and display (but this is nothing new only new desing)
+Pads and the new pitch mode
+overall nice big controller that offers nice package off all kinds of futures one invesment all in one
so now lets get to what i dont like
- why still separet display i like the idea of pioneer to put display in midlle it would be so cool displaying serato dj in real time like on PC then it would be for real to give pc away ....
- i dont get the build of pitch control this is realy bad as real Dj i have to say you have no chance to scratche on the left deck without touch the pitch controll (or you have to tweak your hand unnaturaly )
- Dvs is nice but with this size it will be realy kinky to scratch longer with this kind of distanc
-Price is realy high if you forget the stand alone ability and compare to pioneer sx2 i will take pioneer the over all build is more logical and if you planing to be a profi dj the pioneer build is overall the same to be familier with all kind of equipment you work with
- so back to display if you real dj you will hate to search on such kind of display 80 procent you will play a prepared mix where you have to slide one song down for this you dont need any display. second focus on music not on a dumb display.....
- working witch pc while using Serato is very comfortable + we all have the cool stickers ...
Then why to use a separet program that can read cuepoints but dont realy have the same ability like serato ......
+ useless with Cdjs like pioneer 1000 and higher
So overall If you looking for cool loking controller and you have the money buy this if you starting with serato and you new to djs then better to buy something much cheeper in the class between 300-500 dollars and buy a reloop neon super cheep super usefull..
If you really wanna be dj forget all the stuff symply think about the dj buisness all kinds of clubs bars and so on work with pioneer (best quaranty and so on) so if you wanna be familier with equipment in clubs buy pioneer sx2 or higher
but if you wanna feel music buy turntables is nothing better......
One more thing is you have to think about what you need ... I think that dvs on controler is total bullshit ........ symply controlers are made for alone use and these extra cost only money .... look at prices of real serato mixers and compare to controler ... there is a very big differenc .... sound quality build conectivity and so on..... so i hope this help have a nice day
i want this so bad. but if i buy it my wife will kill me, lol
+Jose Lugo Hopefully not! Haha
to all the dj's facing this I Feel your pain .. How to explain the purchase .. She just don't get It
That is sooo true

+djalerttempo You could scratch on the left (inner) part of the right jogwheel to avoid knocking into the pitch fader
I don't think it a great design in my opinion even the numark ns6 doesn't mirror decks is it a case of an copyright infringement
I am buying this board but i can tell you that right now i have an NS6 and I have never once had an issue of bumping the pitch control while scratching....i really don't think its an issue with the controller either.
Can you do a video on the mc7000?
On our list 👍
What flight case is the controller in please and where di you get it?thanks
+Tim Morton It's a large Magma case :)
will a external hdd work in the USB??
+andrew hopper Here is what external devices work with it: www.denondj.com/kb/article/2008#typeofusbdevice
Nice time at Manchester - PB?
im having problems with my denon mcx8000, Its stuck on the info screen i have my usbs connected this has never before any help?
Definitely jump on the Denon DJ forum, and ask about that.
Can this controller analyze tracks in standalone mode
hi Do you know how i can record my mix whit the dj mcx8000.(the best way, and sound quality) thank u.grz from ben
I would record it directly through the Serato DJ software :)
If i want to add the technics thru serato can i use the denon as a Dashboard puttin the pc to the side ?
+Aboogie Riipro I believe you can only use the Denon without a laptop if you're using the Engine software
Can you do an update review with the new prime engine?
We're planning on, yes :)
It NEEDS to include Flanger, Delay, and Reverb for the standalone effects unit. How could they not include the three most COMMON effects used by DJs?
+s4yJaiPau
EXACTLY!!
Completely agree. The Echo FX works great, but Phaser + Noise are awful + redundant. Quite disappointed with the in-built standalone efx.
Hello Phil, will it work with Traktor or VDJ?
+traktorpro10 As of right now, just Serato DJ and Engine
can rekordbox analyzed track be played in mcx8000?
+Rockerets Not entirely certain, but I don't think it can, since Denon's Engine is their answer to Pioneer DJ's Rekordbox.
***** thanks for your reply! Price-features ratio it will all worth the investment
I fixed the failed audio I think. bc all 4 decks show and music is loaded but it won't play. it just keeps blinking green
Hmm...not sure offhand. I'd suggest trying to get help direct from the company - here's a link to a page where we list all the main forums and support sites: www.digitaldjtips.com/3rd-party-support/ Best of luck!
Digital DJ Tips I actually got it to work. lol I didn't press the int button
Oh good :) As long as it works now
Digital DJ Tips yes. I love mcx8000. is amazing still getting used to it
Why you can't use the 4 channels as standalone?
The Engine software that's built in isn't powerful enough.
pleas help me ,my sampler is not working, its working the same cue
Can you please review the Hurcles dj glow?
+Araash Hussain We'll keep your suggestion in mind :) www.digitaldjtips.com/2015/05/hercules-announces-glow-dark-dj-controller/
Can i use it with a laptop?
Yep! Works great with Serato DJ on a laptop
Is the USB port a hub
Is this unit solid and reliable?
+Video Kallui As of now, yes - here's our full review:
www.digitaldjtips.com/2016/04/review-video-denon-dj-mcx8000-controller-mixer/
+Digital DJ Tips Great review guys, I'm looking at this seriously, but i Got scared when you talked about bugs (I come from Pioneer R1, that freezes once in a while)... Is this unit really reliable?
and Thanks for all the Tips!! :)
+Thief Operandi No problem, happy to help!
Why not recognize ssd with usb adapter?
Is it better than the DDJ SZ
+DJ OreyO Both are solid, honestly - biggest difference is the SZ works with Serato DJ and Rekordbox DJ, while the Denon uses Serato/Engine software
+DJ OreyO
The other big difference is SZ will never ever work standalone of a laptop. MCX will as that's its design idea.
WHEN I LOAD MY USB IT ONLY APPEARS "FOLDER" WHY ??? HELP
can i record my set's only with engine?? thx
From memory, no.
but then how can i record my set if i want to use only engine?? thank you soo much for your response
i want to buy this controller but heard people saying the screen Freeses is it true?
Haven't had an issue with it - I guess it's possible that some have experienced screen glitches.
7 yrs later phil is king
hi phil,is the usb stick bundled with the controller?
Hi Lyndon, no, the USB stick does not come in the box with the controller, sorry!
I use it on standalone mode but it doesn't analyze the songs by bpm ect. like 13:58
Have you tried analysing them beforehand in Engine Prime?
@@digitaldjtips no i haven't. should i do that in the computer?
Yes, do it beforehand in Engine Prime.
@@digitaldjtips now i did and it works. One thing i can't save my ques. On software everything okay but even if i click 'export to mcx8000' it doesn't work on hardware. What should i do? I tried to do with every single song in my playlist. Everyone of them analyzed but no saved cue.
Sorry, not sure what's going wrong there! Try the Denon DJ forum, there are some great people there who may be able to help.
So I’ve been looking for some time now to look for a good start but don’t want to go completely beginner, have been looking at the Pioneer DDJ 800 and 1000, would this be denons comparison to those pioneer decks?
No this is outdated now, Denon are really focusing on their Prime gear (2, 4 and Go)
@@digitaldjtips you are seriously the best ever!!!
Glad to help :)
How to use a keyboard with it..
can you play mp4 videos? o no
How does beatmatching by ear and blending work with the engine hardware?
Beatmatching by ear should work the same as always :)
Actually picked one up and discovered you are right! It's great. Haven't tried it with Serato yet though.
Serato keeps saying failed to connect audio

Digital DJ Tips no. It was my fault. I forgot to hit the int. Button on setsto. lol. I stressed my self out so much
Oh good (not the stressed out part) - that kind of thing is extra frustrating, glad you got it sorted :)
Digital DJ Tips yes. I was ready to through everything out the window then looked and realized I didn't hit the int button lol stupid me
It happens! :D
Could not of said this any better! I hope Denon marking team hires you! I belive denon is now owned by Numark anyway so hey!!!
11 Months later and you can slowly see the reality in that Pioneer wants to do away with Serato controllers and shift toward recordbox.
Denon...some decades ago..they only made heavy and expensive..real Studio-sound-equipment...in the late 80's...they began to produce produkts for the public market...that's why denon is "Tank" quality... :)
