- Talented young blues guitarist Eugene ‘Lightning Boy’ Martone (Ralph Macchio, The Karate Kid) is an artist in need of direction. A rebellious student at the famed Julliard School, his passion for Blues music is the driving force behind all that he does. Inspired to journey out of his comfort zone and discover more music, he sets out on a quest to recover legendary guitarist Robert Johnson's fabled "30th Song" of 1938, considered by many to be lost in the whispers of time.
His journey leads him to respected harmonica player Willie Brown (Blues legend Joe Seneca) who agrees to help only if he is busted out of his retirement home. Together they take a road trip across the vast American landscape from Memphis to Mississippi, exploring the rich history of Blues through the people and places that helped shape its sound.
Directed by Walter Hill (Streets of Fire), also starring Jami Gertz (The Lost Boys), renowned guitarist Steve Vai, and featuring a rocking soundtrack by Ry Cooder, Crossroads is a stirring tribute not only to a popular musical style but to many an American way of life.
1:22 ralph had to be disciplined in both karate and blues
his playing in this scene was pretty good I don't know what Willie brown had against it tbh
@@KP-fy5bf blues is so much more...they say
@@KP-fy5bf It doesn't sound too bad, but that little fragment he was playing is stock boogie-woogie figure played with simple rhythm. What Willie was a completely fresh groove (rhythmically complex) and full of pitch subtlety. ...At least that's how I see it.

See this nail? Hammer on, Hammer off. Now you try.
My favorite and most influential movie on my life. I was a stone cold metal head until I experienced the film Crossroads.
Me to i love it and i see so much of myself there
You said it, brother. Same here. Rare quality in this film.
You start playing harmonica
I can hear ya , brother
"Muddy Waters invented electricity!"....man I love that phrase!
Cristian Orellana more like Charlie Christian
Then Edison stole it and got all the credit.
can somebody explain that phrase to me?
indePhoenixx - Muddy Waters was a dynamic American blues guitarist and singer who played a major role in creating the post-World War II electric blues.
His best-known songs included 'Trouble No More,' 'Got My Mojo Working,' 'I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man,' and 'Mannish Boy.'
I have it tattooed on my arm in memory of my first electric guitar.... Her name was Angie
"Bought it just because you thought it was BEAT up!" -Willie Brown, Greatest Hobo That Ever Lived to all the hipsters blowing a small fortune on "vintage" gear you couldn't have given away for free in the late 90's.....
Hipsters don't even buy vintage guitars, they buy brand new "relic" guitars that you pay extra to buy pre-worn in a factory.
Hipsters buy shit ironically to piss off everyone who hates hipsters the way their dad's hated yuppies.

3:05 “Muddy Waters invented electricity”
Sounds semi legit enough for me
Gods honest truth
Doesn't seems right but I'm too lazy to disprove so... Yeah true
Muddy Waters is immortal, confirmed.
Muddy Waters didn’t invent electricity. I did! Muddy Waters is the devil!
"Wax on" could have blocked that slap. Or maybe "wax off", I forget.
Wax off definitely.
“Wax on fuck off”
When he mentions selling his soul...music industry is full of spulless talent
o and p are very close together...
I just love it when he said "you probably bought that guitar because it was beat up! " Such a classic statement.
Muddy Waters created 'lectricity
@@wasteyelo1 gulp! And I'm about to drink SUM MOE AHH !!!
Yeah, saddest thing about that was they spent 9k for a perfect '30s Martin and then deliberately beat it up!! I was so mad at them...typical Hollywood over-kill!
Robert Johnson. Pure legend. The source of all things rock and roll. Sad no one knows him.
I do. Since 1967.
We do .
Dude, almost everyone knows him
Ain't nothing more precious valuable than the wife and kids. Shove that fame and fortune up your arse,
that was good tight slap willie!
ok. i forgot i comment on this 2 years ago. God damn, been that long?
yes
😆 lol 😆
They took a perfect 9000 dollar Martin 000-21 and THEN beat it up and painted it to look funky...why oh why couldn't they have gotten a real "beat up" guitar....oh, the excesses of Hollywood!
The beat up Martin might be more expensive....
That guitar actually belonged to RY Cooder and he originally bought it that way used and at a pawn shop. He,Steve Vai and Arlen Roth provided all the instruments used in the film.
If they did who cares'it still looks good and fits the movie perfectly' just cuz the price of that guitar was high dont mean anything'its still built like any other guitar except thenprice tag for the builder of that guitar wants way more money
Because a genuinely beat up vintage Martin would have costed a fortune, even in the '80s... You talk about excess, but those were guitars that were supplied for the film.
Yeah well being that it was used in this film makes it worth more money.
Very underrated film, Ralph was on a roll, took me ages to find this film to buy in England, eventually got a ex rental DVD, then got a digital upload....
Please tell me where to find it - I can't get it anywhere.
@@poulwinther i think it's on Netflix, last time I saw it was 6 months ago
@@mikeychido6937 Thanks, but Danish Netflix doesn't have shit. Not even worth paying for.
One of the best movies I've ever seen! I'd watch it again and again back to back.. You find something you didn't see the last time you watched it... and Ralph is one more great guitarist!!!
Ralph didn’t actually play, but he did study and learn the fingering for this role
M W yeah that’s wtat I was finna say
Isnt Ralph Macchio David Lee Roths guitarist? Asking for a friend.

I'm convinced he did make a deal. His last song was "hell hounds a commin." That same night on the way home he was attacked by a pack of wolves.
Just saying.
Sure it wasn't Hell Hound On mY trail?

@James Pierce Yet it was reported he was attacked by "wild dogs". Makes all the more creepy.

More depth than most 80s movie's Jon Seneca was amazing nice little gem.
I'm old enough to know that I've never heard of this movie and wish I did . I wonder why this wasn't pushed on the youth like karate kid was
I got slapped by my guitar tutor, we both loved the movie and I said the line and then he slapped me. Was meant to be pretend but he accidentally slapped me! I even made the noise Like the kid did! My guitar tutor, "dude Im so sorry, I didn't mean to do that" I couldn't stop laughing!

I didn't come down here to get slapped in the face by an old man 😆
What do you expect boy, a kiss? This is the birthplace of the blues. Heartbreak and hard times.
If i want to make him pay, i'll join with Butler playing For The Love Of God or whatnot, let his soul trapped in that contract forever.
When Karate kid meets blues
He looks like a mini Elvis Presley
The bridge scene is near the big black river bridge on highway 80. This is filmed on highway US 80 between Edwards, Mississippi, and Bovina, Mississippi.
Yep. I know that bridge. There are trees on both sides now making it difficult to see the fields. Looks like they were walking east towards Edwards.
This movie changed my life as a kid playing the guitar. I saw it in the theaters when it came out..Still a #bluesman
Oh, this movie did something special for me too. I ended up a classical guy, but the blues in this film hits me square in the middle.
@@bgaona Funny thing is that I dabble a bit on the Classical lol. I always as a kid wanted to go to Julliard. Great movie from the 80's!
This films a trap like that.
That's sad at 1:48 when the devil tricks him into thinking he can sell his soul. Makes me cry.
I had no clue this movie existed! Gotta watch it for sure!
Well now you no boah
My favorite movie of all time up there with outsiders

Did Joe Seneca win all kinds of Oscars for this role? Because he sure as hell should have. This is a great scene,
The soundtrack to this movie is epic

I still have this movie on VHS. Shoot, I should return it. I probably owe them ten grand in late fees.
Don't make a deal, do the work and any hard work pays off.
I watched this back when I was younger with my late dad. I didn’t understand who they were referencing and remember how did ‘muddy waters’ invent electricity?! It’s wet and muddy... 😆
Chuck Norris invented the house.

Haven't seen this fine movie in 35 years, and it still amazes me that you Americans pronounce Macchio as "Machio" and not like Pinocchio...

@@averykeeley6782 Yes yes that one
Ralph Machio is revisiting his old roles. I’d love to see him reprise this role, as Lightning.
He beat the devil at a young age, before he realized how serious it all is. Now as a middle aged man, he’s had a long road, and the devil would like to try to beat him again. The devil should be played by a cgi version of this dude, and the money should go to his estate, help out his family. Ralph would have given up on music, and embraced all kind of different religions to try to ward off the devil. He wrote a book in the 90s, and now in 2020, he just wants to be left alone, but now as the war between heaven and hell intensifies he can’t keep running forever.
And he beats the devil playing shuffleboard and wins back all his teeth!
MisterRlGHT
OR
Ralph takes a new young buck under his wing like Willie did for him. Now he’s the old man, and together they have to defeat the devil.

Update
I can imagine a rap battle, or something.
It could be good
I just like the idea of seeing the old guy: Scratch, done in realistic CGI, reprise his role. Steve Vai can come back, as a broken devil dewd or something. There’s a lot they can do here.
The kid could be a son he didn’t know he had, and ole Scratch is trying to destroy Ralph’s soul that way. He can’t take Ralph, so he goes after his son. Ralph has to find a son he didn’t know he had, and teach him everything he knows to prepare him for His challenge.
This could be as creepy, and scary as the new Paranormal series or the grudge, or something.
@@remc5386 Yes, and the kid can't pull his face away from TikTok long enough to compete for anything, so Satan wins by default & carries both their souls home with him to hell! Great idea, love it!
