It’s surprisingly simple! But it looks so elegant 😀 I am North Indian and admire the lovely white cotton and gold Dhotis men wear in Kerala. They really suit men.
I recently spend many weeks in India in Tamil Nadu & Kerala. I bought several mundu's to bring home for friends, but never learned from our guide how to wear them. Thanks for the video!
yenno videolu chusanu bhayya about pancha kattu ,but nakedhi nachala first time nakee video nachindhi ..chala simple ga undhi.. ika roju panchalesi kummestha... THANKS ANNAYA
Hats off for a neat display. In other words dress worn in the right way is always comfortable, and I should thank the gentleman who has taken the effort to put it up on the web, well the best 'Dhoti' vedio right now. Well done!
I became a fan of South Indian dhoti, after watching a movie Tell me what is the average cost of Dhoti with good material also what quantity is wrong with cheap ones
Thanks bro.... I bought one from calicut last year for my father he din't wearso I thought letme try this year .... but I was relating fail until viewing your vedio ..... its quite good in summer.
In summer..? Wah, here in Anantapur district of AP we have only two seasons: summer and hot summer.. so, without dhoti - no life.. :) (But we call it loongie/lungi here.. dhoti is the long thing - 6 ft at least)
Dhoti is usually 10 ft here and difficult to wrap. It has many beautiful folds... Young people here don't know how to wear it. Only elders still use. It's a disappearing art of wearing dhoti. (You can find a photo of the last young man wearing dhoti on facebook.com/shreesailakshman).
Hmmm... Little misunderstanding regarding use of term "dhoti" :) I mean dhoti is a very long thing (not one on video).. It is about 12 feet long or so! But this is how we use term here in Andhra Pradesh.. For simple/short thing, like one which is in the video from Kerala, we use term "loongie". Dhoti is here is also known as pancha, because there are 5 "knots". It is VERY seldom used by young people. I wore real dhoti just few times in my life.. Unfortunately, the general line of modern indians is to neglect cultural heritage... So real dhoties/panchas are disappearing now, giving room to loongies/mundus etc., which are easier to wrap. But still I like mundus and loongies! Keep wearing them at least (better than jeans :) hehehe. Not so harmful for skin in hot climate!
Anna thank you very much I am looking so much I have tried many ways how to tie a lungi but I can't I am very happy to see your video thank you very much ji 🤗🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🥺👏👏👏👏🌹
i agree..the guy folded the closed side of the mundu instead of the other side..the basic way is to fold the open side of the mundu twice such that the 'kara' appears parallel to your legs
Sai Ram. Beautiful video. I wanted to learn how to wear dhoti in SOUTH INDIAN -style (not in Indonesian style, to which I'm accustomed).. and .. there you go.. Now I've learned it.. Keep up good work. P.S. What the strange music is there on background? Why not traditional devotional song instead? Would be even better! (Just a suggestion).
@dsridharr : please fold the dhoti as shown towards the end of the video. becomes half . While walking and running its the preferred style.. you might have seen these styles in south indian films
that time it was a pioneer act to share a video to a person away from India , none were on youtube and it was not a income source for posting videoes , like we see the now.
+akhil robin My remark wasn't for the music per se. In fact, I love listening to Western classical music, particularly Beethoven and Mozart from the Classical Period and Bach, Handel, Vivaldi from the Baroque Period. What I felt was this music just didn't go well with the kind of visuals in this video. Any kind of ambient music of Indian origin, like Carnatic instrumental or Chenda Melam would've been nice :)
This method is neat and comparatively fail proof but you can't fold it up.This looks good in a formal setting but for "madakki kuthu" you need to change the placing of the folds to the other side.
I keep coming to this particular video every few months for the last couple of years whenever there's a function at home. 😂
It’s surprisingly simple! But it looks so elegant 😀 I am North Indian and admire the lovely white cotton and gold Dhotis men wear in Kerala. They really suit men.
I am totally deaf. But I learnt from the demo you have given. Excellent style. Thanks❤🌹😊
don't worry, he didn't speak in the video haha

The music is a big FAIL!! Chenda Melam would've been so appropriate!!!
Agree
True that!
I really like the music, but you're right. I don't know why it's in this video
+Rajanikant Chandwadkar ..True..but calling the 7 th a big Fail!! is a bit uncalled for...my humble opinion.
