Coolest custom combos really means the the opponent chooses not to air dodging 70% of the time every time :)
The Young Link vs Ken and the Dark Samus vs Samus clips is why one doesn’t spam air dodge as a get out of jail card: it could get you further into trouble

I agree that Nair loops aren’t that cool, but there are some Sora players (not in tournaments unfortunately) that can do some sick stuff with Sora.
