I love this. I'm totally going to start saving up and get back into the hobby. Your videos have inspired me to get back into the model railroading community.
A Sam'sTrains video that was released on my birthday, yesterday and I am glad I am able to watch it this morning, so thank you very much, Sam. The J72 is definitely a lovely locomotive, however, there is one preserved which was on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, as it was named 'Joem' for many years.
Hey Lewis, that's fantastic mate - hope you had a very happy birthday! I've heard about the preserved example - I'd love to go and see her some day! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hey sam I just bought the mainline one today and if you are going to buy a pre owned model go to Peter's spares in Middlesbrough the engine I bought looks in even better condition that the new one and is just as quiet considering its age it was cheap (30 pounds), just serviced, and of my favourite of the class 69023
It sure is an amazing locomotive, and I love that livery. I've actually got two on pre-order, one is like yours and the second is the LNER Black. I never knew about the firebox glow, that's going to be amazing to see when I get my models.
Brill review Sam, as soon as I saw this review I immediately bought one it truly is a great little engine, just need to get my layout together to run haha keep up the good work
Hello Sam, that's a excellent review on the new Bachmann NER E1/J72 in NER Green Livery. Even though her side tanks and boiler are plastic, the paintwork on her wheels aren't perfect, but it's still a beautiful model after all, her running performance is great after running in of course and her strength is great. I cannot wait to get my hands on this model very soon. Once again, an excellent review. 5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 10/10 😉
Hey Jordan, thanks very much mate - yes I agree overall it's a lovely model! Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the great review! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I thought my school would close this week, and I was ready to spend the extra time off volunteering at Locomotion, the NRM at Shildon (Where I am their youngest volunteer!). However I have just been emailed, that all NRM museums, London, Manchester, York, Shildon and the like are all closed until further notice because of the coronavirus. :(
Love my J72 - a LOVELY liitle loco - paintwork and finish is EXCELLENT -( NER version) - no running issues - slow running is smooth and it can go like the clappers....
Nice video Sam , I have got the black LNER one with the red lining , straight out of the box it was very noisy but after lubricating the axles and coupling rods it ran almost silently , it also crawls perfectly . The lights can be push fitted on to the lamp irons and be removed without leaving a mark which is a good feature . What I was not impressed with was Rails customer service , the loco came into stock with them on the 12th December , by the 18th December I had heard so I emailed them to ask what was happening , no reply . By this time another Bachmann loco I had on order had also come into stock a class 22 . On the 28th December I rang them and the person I spoke really couldn't have cared less , he seemed to take great delight in telling me I would not get delivery until after the new year. I said i didn't like his attitude and would cancel the order , his reply was I could do what I liked ! Rails must be doing really well if they don't need a £220 order . I then ordered online the two locos from Kernow who delivered them in 24hrs . David
Thanks a lot mate - glad to hear you managed to quieten yours down! I've had that with Rails before - some quite slow deliveries in the past, but the last few I've received were much more timely. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with them - might be worth dropping them an email explaining what happened - I doubt rudeness of that kind is endorsed by management! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Loved the review Sam. Just want to point out that my own model was noisy but after oiling the axle bearings(which seemed dry) it ran very quiet and less jerky at slow speeds!
Looking at this video again, I've noticed that when crawling in reverse it was stopping at the same position of the wheels, this is indicating that something is catching in the mechanism somewhere. Maybe a high spot or a jagged edge on the linkage. I've had this before on other locos.
Yeah no doubt that's true - the wheels were hastily changed on this product at the last minute - no doubt there could be quartering issues or something similar! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Nice model from bachmann. I have the BR black late crest version. I agree with you about having DCC sound speakers factory fitted. It's just adding on extra cost that some people might not want.
Hi Sam. The lamps on this model are a first for a British ready to run model. They can be hooked on and off the lamp brackets just like the real thing. Nice review and a great model . Its well worth the price when you consider all the features and the quality and finish
That's great Andrew - I'll have to try that! I don't know about the quality and finish - definitely some issues there - but overall a fantastic model! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The issue with the axles not being painted may be something to do with the fact Bachmann initially fitted these with the wrong wheels (14 spokes instead of 12) and had to replace them in the first batch as soon as they landed in the UK. This has resulted in some having running issues on top of slight issues with the wheel decoration.
I’ve got three J72s. One is BR black. One is LNER green and one my dad painted for me in BR crimson. The crimson red one doesn’t run though. My dads had them for years. edit: I've got an A1 flying Scotsman that is DC but that's it
I know you review 00 gauge uk and H0 gauge us, but have you ever thought of reviewing 009 gauge in general from what I know its the equivalent of a narrow gauge track to 00 gauge, I think that's worth looking into
Great review as always. Nice seeing this Loco in that livery. Also, I'm not sure if you've answered this before, is there a reason as to why you don't review more multiple unit trains
I've got 6 of the older model. 1 mainline in need of wheels, 1 bachmann in need of a motor brush, and 4 working bachmann ones. They do perform very well, but the detail on this new one looks fantastic, and the DCC compatibility is much improved (I'm gonna have a nightmare fitting chips to my 6 J72s...)
Ooh blimey - that sounds quite a collection - yes the performance is decent isn't it?! :D But yes, a nightmare to chip! ;D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam has such a thought out opinion on this loco that he ran out of looping footage! 31:08 I've got my LNER black one on order, can't wait to get it running on the depot
I've gotten so used to getting all my Engines with DCC Sound, I mainly Stick with Atlas and Bachmann models because they cost less but have amazing sound. I'm a Passenger Nut so I have more Passenger trains than freight.
Great Loco Sam. I have this one in one of my written stories. I call her Shauna. She comes from the NER and mainly works at Brendem station and it's branchline. She's cheeky and perky and always looking for fun and excitement. In case you haven't noticed, I name my engines after human characters from Pokemon. Also. DAMN YOU COPPA!
Recently got this gem of a model from a model fair for £85 (tried to get it for £70 but the seller wasn't having it). I haven't run it, but it's a beautiful model with a lot of detail. Waiting on Hornby or Hattons to make some NER coaches (if not I could substitute some NBR or LBSC ones).
Despite its price tag I actually think this is a very lovely loco - I'm so happy you got one Sam. Some people tend to dunk on Bachmann thesse days particularly concerning their price policy and they have indeed become very expensive. Even so Bachmann still ranks high in my books as one of the best British outline manufacturers. Thanks, Joachim
The Palitoy J72 was the first engine I bought as a young adult. Cost in 1978? Eight pounds! As a student I had to save up for it! Looked great but having a split chassis didn't run well after a year or so. A window cleaner saw it running on my table, threw open the window and asked if that was a J72. He'd fired them in his youth in Hull. I would love to buy this version but not at that price.
Blimey, crazy times - if only we saw prices like that today!! That's very cool too - bet the window cleaner loved that! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Been looking forward to your review. I preordered a LNER J72 in March cost £106. I also run on DC. I’m on my second, first one was very noisy like a intermittent scraping sound, nearly a chuff chuff!. Slow speed was hopeless. Got a replacement last week noise slightly better slow speed similar to yours, not good for shunting. Hornby J50 100% better at £65. Evan my 1980’s J52 performs better. Supplier looking into problem waiting for a possible third model. Great looking loco such a shame can’t carry out its design duties. Don’t think I’ll be preordering again, I’ll wait for your reviews.
Thanks a lot Brian - sorry to hear the early one was no good - the performance certainly isn't amazing, that's very true. Absolutely - the J50 was a much better model for the money, and about twice as heavy! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam, very good professional review as always the J72 is one of my favourite tank engines. I like the new motor and mechanical improvements, I have two mainline versions one squeaks relentless as it runs and the other has become a static. Keep up the good work 👍
Understand that you produced this clip 2 years ago but WRT DCC sound I now update my locomotives to sound versions so I think it’s a good idea to retro fit speakers if they are good quality
In 1915 there was a crash at jarrow next to where I live and it involved 1 or 2 NER E1 i think the crash was caused by some singling problems and 3 trains one of them had coal from a local colary and 2 of them were passages and they collided and some coaches caught on fire
I know you've explained why you can't put more scenery on your layout, but have you considered cutting up a grass mat to put between the rails and the carpet?
That's where I need to walk though - it'd just be too difficult to manage with scenery all over the floor! All the places I don't need to walk already have scenery! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Awesome locomotive. I really like the firebox glow part. I personally use DCC on my layout. I have a couple DCC and DCC and Sound equipped locomotives but they are super expensive so I only pick them up at model train swap meets here and there. 🤠
WOW, fantastic & excellent review Sam of the new Bachmann NER E1/J72 in beautiful apple green livery 👍👍 Now this is also the one that I like to get because of this livery, but I’m might get the LNER black livery one as I like the red rods on the driving wheels. It’s a shame that you notice a few details like axles are not painted as well the nicks on the running board, but the model is excellent with amazing details and I find it better than the old one as it has a BR number plate on the smoke box door. I hope your next Bachmann tank engine will be 9400 Class Pannier tank next as that will be the next big thing or the new Midland tanks in Midland red livery.
I agree about the speaker. I really don't understand why bachmann would do that. I do sometimes put DCC sound in my models, but I usually upgrade the speaker also! Great video and look forward to the videos to come :)
I have one complaint that I didn't hear you mention. The axle sticks out on the wheels and Bachmann did nothing to hide it. Was that part of your quality accounting? Oh well, it is a good looker. You did it proud.
great vid once again sam.me personally i run both i have 3 tracks for dcc engines and 3 for dc.as i have a lot of locos were i cannot fit any decoders etc
The reason for the speaker would be because it is often ard to fit speakers in, if its already fitted you dont have to fit (Potentially cutting away at the body).Lots of manufacturers are strarting to pre fit speakers.
I agree it would definitely make sound fitting easier - but the question is whether it's fair to ask non-dcc modellers to pay for DCC equipment - it's not terribly difficult to fit speakers! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Thanks for uploading Sam! You really have a major problem with that tango.. I wonder why, also are you doing a teardown of the tango following its maritime adventures? I think a large hammer would do a perfect disassembly.
I’ve had loads of problems with Bachmanns coreless 03. Poor running at certain speeds and really jerky movement when using DCC. For instance, it ‘jumps’ about an inch after coming to a halt. Tried five all had issues. I’m staying away from coreless from now on.
I have just seen then 'new' Bachmann J72 and had the opportunity to compare it to my original Palitoy "Mainline" model. I agree with your 'noise level' comments are correct and the amount of detail on the newer model, while higher in standard and quality, is somewhat hampered in the fact that the loco has no fly wheel (which, i believe, would improve its performance immensely) and the subtle demand to go DCC is also a hindrance to those of us who prefer the 12,000 mVolts systems. I do recall that the standards of detail on the Palitoy offering was astonishing in its time and, while the newer model has significant improvements on this level, the steps are not so astounding when compared to what has come before. Performance, as mentioned is again an issue as my layout is specifically "industrial" so slow running and 'crawl' are important. I would like to see this new Bachmann offering being tested and run in DCC for comparison. Otherwise, another very clear, entertaining and valuable addition to your already impressive line up of video reviews. Thank you.
Thanks for that Frank, glad you could corroborate that. Yes the absence of flywheel is a shame too, given the price! Yes indeed - the mainline offering was outstanding at the time, no doubt! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Atlas Model Railroad have begun installing speakers in both their DC and DCC/sound N scale North American diesel models. I presume the cost difference between leaving them in and removing them is negligible. That might be the case with this Bachmann (as well as the built-in upsell). I use ESU LokSound decoders sparingly on my fleet. IMHO they are the best sound decoders on the market but are quite expensive. Many of the rest of my N scale locos are fitted with silent DCC or came from the factory with sound.
Hi Sam great review shame bout the price, I'm getting a pair of "blood and custard" coaches from hattons in a few weeks as I don't having any coaching stick yet. Question are you planning on getting any more terriers, which one would you get? Cheers Matt
Thanks Matt - that sounds fantastic, hope you enjoy them! Yes I'm hoping to get a Rails terrier, when they're released! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
22:11 seems to be slipping which is odd, is there oil on the wheels? firebox flicker is a real shame, Dapol have managed it under DC, so not great. The J72 is a lovely looker however those wheels look horrible and nasty! Performance seems rather odd, coreless, maybe it is, why however the standard Bachmann motor is super solid, glad to see this as it's saved me some money :) Cheers Sam.
It wasn't slipping - just uneven running - seems to be hitting a tight spot in the rotation! I agree - don't know how Dapol can manage it and Bachmann can't! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I do run DCC from time to time - I have a few controllers and plenty of locos - DC is just more practical for review purposes! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
the speaker was a big factor in it's purchase for us. it gives that opportunity to upgrade in the future. the plan is to upgrade all loco's to sound in the future but doing it his way means we can at least get the loco, run is non sound with a dcc chip and upgrade in the future
The erratic slow running.... Is it possible that one of the drivers isn't quartered properly?? It has happened to me with out of the box Locos in the past. Caveat - I've been in the Hobby for a LONG time! Locos from the 70's were nearly EXPECTED to be crap out of the box!! 😖 It does appear that it could be binding a bit. (Although I don't make it a habit of diagnosing problem from 6000 miles away). 😉 Definitely a winner in the looks department! For that price, it wouldn't kill Bachmann to fit a simple chuffing chip, when in DC mode! I run DCC/Sound, and cannot look back! Also run Keep-Alive Capacitors... And find it the GREATEST innovation in the Hobby in my entire 47 years in the Hobby!! Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Yes it's very possible - the wheels were hastily changed at the last minute, so I'm told, so I wouldn't be surprised! Yeah you're right - that would have been great! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi sam I recently ordered the Bachmann Collectors Club j72 and im wondering what can be the main problems with them and with a coreless motor. Thank you.
You've just got to watch which controller you use - so no feedback controllers. They also tend to overheat, so be careful about overloading the loco. Shouldn't be too much of an issue with this as it's pretty small and has no traction tyres! Happy New Year - Sam :)
Yes I confirmed that all pickups were making contact - it's pretty hesitant on all track to be honest, particularly at slower speeds ;) Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Factory fitted speaker and firebox glow that only works right on digital, talk about upselling. Expensive too. I think you are being very generous with your scores.
Yeah I agree - not a big fan of those features - especially since Dapol managed to get their fireboxes glowing without DCC! :O Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Should have bought the model (£120) from Chester Model Shop, Sam. Although, being Paul's favourite customer, I'm in the process of buying the exact same green engine for £115 plus her LNER Black Liveried sister engine for the same discount price. Before the two tank engines get to run on my railway, I must mention a part exchange engine, in place of Sketty Hall, has wormed his way in. Meaning Ivatt 2MT 46446, who I've named Mickey Mouse, (Blossom's new brother) that is. I was playing with Mickey Mouse and testing his pulling power in both directions, in the storage room (1st floor) at the back of the shop. He is a bit jerky, but I love him too much to scold him for it. He runs perfectly well, which is good enough for me. So I'm still only up to 26 lovable steamies so far. But, in good time, the two J72s and an LMS Black 5 will join the fleet. That will bring the total up to 29, and Paul has a tracking down job to do. He will find and get a model of red-framed City of Truro, the last GWR Tender Engine in the line-up, to make 30. Once I have the entire fleet of 30, I will create a "Meet the Fleet" video to show off all 30 steamies in their glory. Roberts Train Set inspired me to do that, and he's a fan of yours. Check out his channel, you won't be disappointed. He has the same TTS Sound model of Earl of St. Germans as you.
I wouldn't want to pay more than £110 Kelly! You'll still get it cheaper at Rails of Sheffield, at £110! Sounds like your collection is growing wonderfully! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam, There's a video review of the J72 newly posted on RMWEB. This one has 5 out of 6 axles painted green. The reviewer, who really liked this model, doesn't mention it. He does say that the loco does not do a crawl.
haha - so what's the point in them reviewing it? I wonder if Bachmann advertises with them? I wonder if Bachmann sent them a sample? ;) Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Im still working on ones to recommend, trouble is I have a relatively small collection, but there is one that I have that is heavy can go slow and just about every wheel is a pickup wheel, its the BHP Billiton outback hauler train set, its ho scale and its made by bachman, theres also one that I want to get but its narrow gauge but I think the size of the loco itself is ho or oo theres multiple versions of it, its called Puffing Billy, you caan find the puffing billy loco on www.hearnshobbies.com/collections/haskell-on30 , and the outback hauler is more common so its on ebay or on www.hobbylandaustralia.com.au/shop/trains/ho-oo-train-sets/bachmann-outback-hauler-ho-train-set/ , the Puffing billy loco is one of many that are called Puffing billy at the Puffing billy railway, its a narrow gauge line that runs from Upper fern tree gully to Gembrook, there was two landslides with the second one being the one that broke the camels back, after the second landslide they cosed the line down for good but on the last running day I think there was 13,000 people there to see it off, after that a puffing billy preserveation group was made to bring the line back, I think in between the 70s and 90s was when they finally got it done, it is one of the most iconic lines in Australia, the models and train set are quite expensive
@@SamsTrains Id recommend ARM’s C38, they released the unstreamlined version last year and they’ll be releasing the streamlined version soon. Definitely a unique class of locomotives and very famous here in Australia!
Considering the NER custom ordered green paint, I'm guessing it wouldn't be a myth although I could be wrong, maybe they ordered around 700,000 gallons of custom paint and never got around to using it and although that's possible as it has happened before, but it is extremely atypical that a railroad orders 700,000 gallons of a custom paint and never used it .
Is this item still available for purchase or did this item get discontinued? I own this loco and named him Lenny and I burnt out the motor and I need to buy a new one.
I have two sound locos. One is an Athearn Big Boy, the other is an EMD E8 diesel in Burlington Northern cascade green, which is similar to LNER green. Maybe if you bought a decent DCC controller like the Roco z21 you'd be more inclined to use DCC Sam? :-) Think of all the functions you're missing out on. It's not as if DCC is new. It's 29 years old this year.
I managed to get my own one of these, however the first one I received the valve gear fell off when running in! so I sent it back to Rails and they sent me another, so I wonder if Bachmann are not doing their QC checks properly? especially with yours having dodgy paintwork on the wheels! however it is a lovely model, but the performance isn't that great I agree.
Blimey - that's not good at all! I hear the wheels have been changed in order to be correct - maybe they weren't too careful with yours?! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hey Sam, can you do some of the NYC MTA trains? I would LOVE to see them! I know that they are just subway trains and not actual locomotives, but it will be amazing to see them!
Hi Sam. Your knowledge is quite extensive which is great. Can you please help me understand what a feedback controller is? Cheers mate. Love your work.
He Robert, thanks a lot for your kind words - the best definition is one I found on the Hornby forum: "Feedback controllers monitor the back EMF (Electro Motive Force) from the motor and vary the voltage supplied to the track in an attempt to keep the loco moving at the set speed, adjusting for climbs, descents and load etc. Rather like cruise control on a car." Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hey Sam, i live in the Netherlands and my model railway stuff is from Marklin and in HO they dont even produce models that do run annalog. Its always digital and most of the time with sound. So to me its even strange that you still have analogue in the UK. Thought thats quite interesting.
Looks like a nice loco. If only it performed better and/or was a better price. Anyway, I've been meaning to ask you for a while, where would you recommend buying cabside number and smokebox number plate transfers from as although Fox Transfers have the unique number of 5815 I'm looking for, they're not cheap and take about a month to deliver. If you have any ideas or know of anyone who does, it would be great if you could let me know. Great video :)
Coreless motor is an interesting choice and I don't really understand it. Probably the reasoning behind the choice is the increased power, but for me, it does not seem a good use for a coreless motor. Nice looking engine though, I like the firebox glow and as I am now all DCC it would work very nicely. I must say do like the DCC sound, particulary the sound of the horn.
I don't understand it either Ian - I've never seen one perform as well as a good 5-pole skew wound! Hopefully these sound good on sound! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Pre-grouping locos are some of the nicest ones, the livery helps me like this one!
Yeah absolutely - I've always thought so too! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I love this. I'm totally going to start saving up and get back into the hobby. Your videos have inspired me to get back into the model railroading community.
That's amazing to hear mate - hope you really enjoy it if you do! :D

Lovely colour scheme and design. Glad there is a sole survivor of this magnificent tank engine.
Thanks mate, I'm very glad too!! :D

@@SamsTrains You're welcome. I was expecting this to be a model of a long scrapped class. But boy, you proved me wrong indeed, mate. :D
I love that green on the locomotive 🚂
Me too - looks amazing doesn't it?! :D

I do to
The Wray’s I think it’s the same shade of green that green arrow is in or use to be in, but I forgot the name of it.

This is one of the most beautiful OO/Ho model tank engines I’ve ever seen. I’ll definitely be picking one up sometime this year.
Except for the axles not being covered. That is a downer, but it’s not a massive issue
I agree Jack - can't blame you for that! :D
Nice video Sam , I have got the black LNER one with the red lining , straight out of the box it was very noisy but after lubricating the axles and coupling rods it ran almost silently , it also crawls perfectly . Nice model from bachmann. I have the BR black late crest version. I agree with you about having DCC sound speakers factory fitted. It's just adding on extra cost that some people might not want.
Thanks a lot David - yes I was a bit miffed at having to pay so much for features I didn't ask for!! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)

Yeah I wonder - I heard that too - shame they didn't do their research properly ;)

haha yeah! ;D
I’ve got three J72s. One is BR black. One is LNER green and one my dad painted for me in BR crimson. The crimson red one doesn’t run though. My dads had them for years. edit: I've got an A1 flying Scotsman that is DC but that's it
Sounds amazing mate - I love the idea of a BR crimson version!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
11:00 I remember you did a review on that old Bachmann NER Class E1/LNER J72 and you putted this locomotive on your “Top 5 Worst Locos for 2018”.
I'd forgotten it was in the bottom 5 of the year!! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Beautiful model and I love the green! We’re lucky to have a preserved example!
Thanks Ryno - very lucky! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I know you review 00 gauge uk and H0 gauge us, but have you ever thought of reviewing 009 gauge in general from what I know its the equivalent of a narrow gauge track to 00 gauge, I think that's worth looking into
I never have, but I'd love to try it some time! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains np anytime, I think hattons does 009 searching narrow gauge on there does give the resaults
Thanks for information
Great review as always. Nice seeing this Loco in that livery. Also, I'm not sure if you've answered this before, is there a reason as to why you don't review more multiple unit trains
Thanks a lot mate - there's no reason, I have more coming soon! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
But yes, a nightmare to chip! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam has such a thought out opinion on this loco that he ran out of looping footage!
31:08
I've got my LNER black one on order, can't wait to get it running on the depot
haha yeah - well spotted, I had to extend it ;)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I've gotten so used to getting all my Engines with DCC Sound, I mainly Stick with Atlas and Bachmann models because they cost less but have amazing sound. I'm a Passenger Nut so I have more Passenger trains than freight.
Ahh I see - yeah DCC sound is much more ubiquitous in the US - most British models still ship without DCC! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Thanks Nathan - that's brilliant, love that idea mate!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Yeah I agree overall - very lovely indeed despite the silly price!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great model! I love the look.
Thanks a lot Kris, I do too! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks a lot mate, really appreciate that! I can see why - and definitely some nice improvements wit this one!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Ooh really?! Wow that sounds horrendous! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I know you've explained why you can't put more scenery on your layout, but have you considered cutting up a grass mat to put between the rails and the carpet?
That's where I need to walk though - it'd just be too difficult to manage with scenery all over the floor! All the places I don't need to walk already have scenery!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
recently had one brought me off a family member have to say they run like a dream
Glad to hear that Dan - mine's certainly a great runner beyond a crawl! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Nice to see another review!
Cheers mate! :D
I'm a full digital convert, Sam. No more DC/analog for me!
haha glad to hear that - sounds fun mate!! :D
It is - when it works!
The NER green is a little brighter than the LNER green when you put your old Bachmann E1 locomotive on the white backdrop.
Yeah you're right - it's quite a different livery!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@31:55 Ah Bullman, great seeing you again
Mooooo!

Awesome locomotive. I really like the firebox glow part. I personally use DCC on my layout. I have a couple DCC and DCC and Sound equipped locomotives but they are super expensive so I only pick them up at model train swap meets here and there. 🤠
Thanks a lot mate! Sounds great - yeah DCC sound is definitely amazing for the right price! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Yay the cute loco is finally here!!
Fantastic Video Sam :)

WOW, fantastic & excellent review Sam of the new Bachmann NER E1/J72 in beautiful apple green livery 👍👍
Now this is also the one that I like to get because of this livery, but I’m might get the LNER black livery one as I like the red rods on the driving wheels.
Thanks very much Joe - it is a beauty isn't it?? The 9400 would be amazing to try, you're right! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Gorgeous little loco, and great vids as usual Sam! Someone needs to get you a Big Boy to balance out with all the little engines I've seen lately 😆
Thanks very much Byran - haha I would love that!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I agree about the speaker. I really don't understand why bachmann would do that.
I do sometimes put DCC sound in my models, but I usually upgrade the speaker also!
Great video and look forward to the videos to come :)
I know - speakers are easy enough to fit if required - I just resent having to buy one without asking for it ;)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I have one complaint that I didn't hear you mention. The axle sticks out on the wheels and Bachmann did nothing to hide it. Was that part of your quality accounting? Oh well, it is a good looker. You did it proud.
I did mention the visible axles quite a lot Ray, and yes it was a big detraction for me!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I have a Dapol B4 that runs on DC and it has a Firebox glow.
Yeah you're right - and Dapol's flicker too, even on DC! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Whats the song called? (When you showed the loco Driving)
That's called the easy winners! :D

Love the new intro sam! Good job
Thanks a lot David! :D
great vid once again sam.me personally i run both i have 3 tracks for dcc engines and 3 for dc.as i have a lot of locos were i cannot fit any decoders etc
Thanks Kevin - yeah I tend to run a bit of both too - it's fun! :D

That livery is just *beautiful*
Oh yeah! It really is! :3
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Lovely loco Sam and spot-on with your ratings. But that Bachmann price again! Thanks again, very enjoyable.
Thanks Mike - yeah that's the problem isn't it?! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Lovely looking loco there Sam!
Thanks a lot Cameron! :D
A new intro, and a new shirt. Very nice.
haha thanks Sean! :D
It's a very good looking loco and I like the detail
Thanks Chris, I do too! :D
Whats the whistle used in your intro? Im guessing a tender engine
I think it's a GWR pannier tank! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I finally found the odd one out at 26:49 you can see a V3 in the siding and you said that the theme was LNER 0-6-0s and the V3 is a 2-6-2!!!!!!!
Ahh very well spotted!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Thanks for uploading Sam! You really have a major problem with that tango.. I wonder why, also are you doing a teardown of the tango following its maritime adventures? I think a large hammer would do a perfect disassembly.
Thanks Adam - haha it's only a joke really! A teardown might be fun though! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I’ve had loads of problems with Bachmanns coreless 03. Poor running at certain speeds and really jerky movement when using DCC. For instance, it ‘jumps’ about an inch after coming to a halt. Tried five all had issues. I’m staying away from coreless from now on.
Sorry to hear that mate - I really don't understand it, they're useless aren't they?!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great Video Sam! The loco has an amazing livery! Cheers! - Tom
Thanks a lot Tom, really glad you liked it mate! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Great review, glad mine isn't the only noisy one!
haha yeah - don't know why they're not a bit smoother and quieter!
Yeah maybe it is pretty low - I'd like to know what they cost! I've heard great things about the Loksound chips for sure!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam, just curious, but why don’t you run dcc? I don’t, but for me it doesn’t seem worth the extra cost.
I do run DCC from time to time - I have a few controllers and plenty of locos - DC is just more practical for review purposes! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
the speaker was a big factor in it's purchase for us. it gives that opportunity to upgrade in the future. the plan is to upgrade all loco's to sound in the future but doing it his way means we can at least get the loco, run is non sound with a dcc chip and upgrade in the future
That's fair enough if you're going to use it - but I never will, hence my resentment for having to pay for it ;)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
It does appear that it could be binding a bit. (Although I don't make it a habit of diagnosing problem from 6000 miles away). 😉
Definitely a winner in the looks department!
I use DCC sound, or TTS as it happens. Great review.
Yeah I love TTS too! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I'm wondering if it is actually picking up on all pickups? I say this because it hesitates when going over your insulfrog points.
Yes I confirmed that all pickups were making contact - it's pretty hesitant on all track to be honest, particularly at slower speeds ;)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Factory fitted speaker and firebox glow that only works right on digital, talk about upselling. Expensive too. I think you are being very generous with your scores.
Yeah I agree - not a big fan of those features - especially since Dapol managed to get their fireboxes glowing without DCC! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
DC for me as much as I would like DCC. The cost prohibits any thoughts of going in that direction i'm afraid. Another fine video Sam!
Yeah me too mostly - glad you enjoyed it mate! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I wonder if Bachmann sent them a sample? ;)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I should have been more clear in that it was a forum poster who put up a video review in the RMWEB Bachmann forum. Sorry.
Hey mate can you review some Australian model trains in a video
I'd love to - any suggestions?? :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Amazing review on the NER Class E1 by Bachmann! I love the NER green livery for the locomotive. It certainly looks attractive! :P
Thanks a lot mate - glad you liked it, I love this one too! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Think of all the functions you're missing out on. It's not as if DCC is new. It's 29 years old this year.
haha yeah maybe that is true - though for reviewing purposes, DCC makes no sense!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
If your loco has 'valve gear' it is not this loco.
Billy Windsock I meant the coupling rod
Blimey - that's not good at all! I hear the wheels have been changed in order to be correct - maybe they weren't too careful with yours?!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I changed over to DCC about 15 years ago, and started buying DCC sound locos about 10 years ago, and I'd never go back to DC after running DCC sound.
Hey Sam, can you do some of the NYC MTA trains? I would LOVE to see them! I know that they are just subway trains and not actual locomotives, but it will be amazing to see them!
That would be great - thanks a lot for the suggestion, I can look into those! :D

Happy New year!
Happy new year! :D
Rather like cruise control on a car."
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Cute loco! Nice review Sam.
The green livery looks very pretty. :)
haha thank you Emma - yeah I agree! :D

I love 0-6-0. I would love to own one E1.
Which is the best:

-08 shunter
-N7
-Andrew's Barclay 0-4-0
Nice video.
Thanks a lot mate - ooh tricky, maybe the W4 for me! :D

Hey Sam I was given an old Hornby triang train set that came with an lner loco that is missing but I am trying to complete the set!
Ooh that sounds cool - would that be the J83??

Hey Sam, i live in the Netherlands and my model railway stuff is from Marklin and in HO they dont even produce models that do run annalog. Its always digital and most of the time with sound. So to me its even strange that you still have analogue in the UK.
Thought thats quite interesting.
Ahh yeah Marklin do have a fantastic reputation! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Thanks Dom - yes it's a shame about that! That sounds interesting - I haven't ever thought about that! :O

Great review Sam it looks great I may get hold of one one day
Thanks David - they are lovely things! :D
I immediately clicked on it as soon as I saw the beautiful steam engine
haha awesome - hope you like the video! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
