- Happy Halloween from Ordnance Lab! Ever wonder if pumpkins can be stuffed with explosives and turned into fragmentation land mines? Well, ponder no more. Jake spend days trying to convert innocent pumpkins into explosive Halloween lawn ornaments. You would think such a festive device such as an explosive pumpkin landmine would be totally featured on Etsy or other crafty outlets, but you would be wrong. Now, how effective is this device? Well, there is only one way to find out.

Happy Halloween fellow energetic enthusiasts! We all hope everyone has a great holiday and enjoys this video to tie in with the festive nature of Halloween. Sean is a total curmudgeon when it comes to the holidays. Jake's love for Halloween helped him get through turning gourds into land mines. Not a fun task.
What else would people like to see turned into explosive devices? Leave a comment and let us know!
Not today mr AFT man.
Still looking for a deep dive into picric acid - we use it fairly in bio labs.
Love the Khorne shirt (and the video too of course)
Flower pods would be a nice addition to the frond yard protection system.
Scarecrow anfo
Real Pumpkin Spice there
I see what you did there.......
@OrdnanceLab would you consider filling a big pumpkin with oxygen and acetylene and see if you could get a nice THUMP?
Did you mean Spicey Pumpkins?
@@kmech3rd Worth a shot!
Criminally underrated.
I love Halloween, but this def tested my limits as I made a horrid mess with a lot of pumpkins. The range is going to have random pumpkin patches from all the seeds we released.
Doubt it. They need a lot of water and sandy soil. That’s why Florida is the watermelon Capitol.
But you have the appropriate T-shirt! Chaos is more fun! But I am now slightly curious about the penetrative power of a pumpkin seed, given organic fragmentation can be very nasty. Especially secondary fragmentation. But seems a very sensible use of pumpkins. Not a fan. On which point, how about an eggplant grenade?
Feeding the wildlife, nothing wrong with that lol
Always love the saucy sarcasm this channel has.
Okay, so I make a pumpkin landmine... and the raccoons come to eat it... and then there aren't any raccoons. How much do you charge for your anti-raccoon jack-o-lanterns?
Edit: If there is any call for future pumpkin mines, or other edible explosions, having a raccoon silhouette right next to the kaboom would help me know how many I want.
Do the racoons go boom...or do you just get explosive racoons?
Oooor... are the raccoons going to steal and stash the explosives?
Jake my man you're doing so much better on camera.
What about a Molotov Pumpkin launched from a catapult at the enemy castle? I feel this would be quite effective, or at least quite messy.
I saw the boy scouts launching pumpkins with a trebuchet a few times.
"Two kilos of explosive is always a good time"😱 You heared it first here folks!
Now, I know this is incredibly hare-brained (especially given the performance of the Improvised Explosive Pumpkins), but would it be possible for you to recreate the rolling naval mine from the Yugoslav war with a giant pumpkin?
Worth a shot. Jake does love experimentation as much as he loves graphic t-shirts.
@@OrdnanceLab Would love to see it man, always looking forward to a new video from The ordnance lab
LOL love the shirt Jake.
Blood for the blood god as he always says
Video Idea: Which food would make the best sneaky bomb? Exploding twinkies? Watermelon Bomb? Popsicle poppers? Any cool ideas?
Yes. Absolutely yes. Great idea
Pop rocks that _REALLY_ pop.
A chicken or a turkey. Oh... Thanksgiving coming up soon. Gobble Gobble, Ka-fuckin-boom.
Jalapeño poppers 😂😂
@@It-b-Blair lol
Way to get seasonal yall! 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
Jake is all about Halloween. Mostly because he can dress all scandalously.
My favorite holiday next to new year's eve.
Next time, you could paint scary faces on the pumkins, that would indicate which way to point them and look like a decoration.
Did you have to register these explosive pumpkins with the atf? I assume so. that must have been funny 😊
I'm pretty sure they said they don't have to if it's something they make and detonate in the same day
1:00 I like the "Fake Second Camera" shifts of angle. It's a nice touch. Clever indeed.
These remind me of the old Spanish grenades you to see in history books.
That actually would make for an interesting video
@@OrdnanceLabHistorical weapons can be pretty weird. Another channel did a video on an 18th century matchlock grenade launcher. Looked like a Steampunk can launcher.
Well considering there were technically things called "Grenade's" all the way back to the Greece civilization and crusaders in Jerusalem which is kinda wild to think practically was just either a jar or a hard clay pointed container with a fuse mixed with nitrates, animal fat, plant oil and sulfur.
So I Imagen it would be pretty easy to replicate might even be able to make a ghost joke if you do the clay yourselves 😂
Nows thats a way to celebrate
The sentence "improving the performance of a pumpkin mine" is hilarious 😂
BEAUTIFUL
aye yo not even a minute into the video and SHOTS FIRED
Pumpkin head would be proud
Happy Halloween, albeit a little late.... I'm just now getting the chance to watch this video! I'm sure that this is gonna be an awesome video from you guys!
GREAT vid!
😊 happy Halloween
Happy Halloween!
I love J's shirt so much hahahahahaha BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE 😁 thanks for the entertaining knowledge here hahahahaha!!!
I appreciate the effort to bring this to your viewers, sorry it did not perform as desired.
Great content.. watching from Northeastern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 👍🏻👍🏻
Finally. Pumpkin spicy.
Serving up some pumpkin pie!
great video it satisfied me
Glad you enjoyed it!
Maybe use some quart plastic bag on the inside of the pumpkin so that you would not need to wait for it to dry?? Or line the inside with foil to keep the material dry...
Great video
I once seen a cast iron exhaust manifold used as a frag bomb, cast iron works different.
forgot to comment earlier so i had to watch again to comment. darn the luck getting to watch pumpkins go boom twice
Not sure why you guys don't have a ton more subs!
Cheers from Norway :)
Another thing i learned from this video: classical music always pairs with explosives.
Happy early Halloween
Still waiting for the 1812 Overture, with cannon.
The Anvil Chorus would work too.
Maybe pumpkins do better as an air burst? If you rigged the pumpkins as a Bouncing Betty, would you maybe get more shrapnel on the targets and less in the ground?
Turn them into the deadliest gourd imaginable. LOL
Now I am having horrible visions of turkey claymores for Thanksgiving.
Looks like a fun way to dispose of pumpkins! Though I am unsurprised by the gourds performing in underwhelming manner. Explosive snowman for Xmas, rare as I assume snow is in your parts, maybe? :D
Happy Halloween
I see the boy scouts have been stepping up their medieval warfare game. First the pumpkin launching trebuchets and now exploding pumpkins.
Happy Halloween guys!
2:39 the explosion was enough to send my half asleep body into panic mode
That number of hits seems accurate. From a distance of 10m, even with 600 BBs you're looking at 1 BB per 2 square meters of surface area assuming a roughly spherical pattern.
Yes, exactly correct!
I need more explosive pumpkins in my life
That was the fastest way I have ever seen to get rid of pumpkins
🤣🤣🤣Happy Halloween!
Great video for the season. Glad to know that pumkins are not the best source for landmines! Now I don't have to do that research. Ha, ha.
Didnt know Jake was a Khornate
He is all about Khorne.
I approve of the wonderful khorne flakes.
Thumbs up for the finale (and the algorythm) 👍
Y'all are an affront to fronters fronting for Fedbois and Aluminumnaughties... 👍👍😁😁
I was pleased to see another video so soon after the last one. Now, Your thick walls of the pumpkin help to decelerate the balls as well as cause a downward trajectory assisted by gravity. It also removes a good portion of the imparted energy. Experiment: Next time elevate the pumpkin to waist level in stead of low to the ground. Experiment: Place something solid in the center of the pumpkin, then fill the space between the center core and the outer shell of balls with your media.. It should redirect a greater portion of the energy outwards. Good Video guys!
Swaggy pumpkin swag
So I got one for yall at ordinance lab. Remember I believe it was the 2nd Tremors movie where Bert had the underground concrete wall around the perimeter of his property? What if you made a standard chain link fence with the metal piping for the stands and framing but added a little extra. In the name of stopping graboids of course, what if you made a sorta reactive armor fence to add to the concrete wall. Using some form of impact detonated claymore style ordinance fastened to the chain link fence, maybe running det cord along the chainlink to trigger multiple of them in a concentrated area if only one is initially triggered by impact. I'm assuming some sort of pressure plate design for each piece of ordinance with det cord connected to each individual devices blasting cap.
And in the name of science, maybe use some cheap salvage title compact vehicle to represent the graboid colliding with this contraption and to also simulate the kind of destruction it could possibly do to a large object colliding with it
I'm pretty sure Grandma would NOT approve of this method of making pumpkin pie...
I bestow the Highest award it is within my power to give, Instant Like, and an algorithm comment.
Bet that made the range smell like a Starbucks at christmas.
We will have basic white girls showing up in droves.
They didn't need the glue for the shrapnel. Just push them into the flesh 😉
a pumpkin bomb was at my school once...
Mmm, pumpkin spice shrapnel.
gotta tell us if you have pumpkins growing next year
If ya dont tick someone off, youre not a mountaineer.👍
if you got some ballistic dummies, this would next level content!😁
Oh hey it's that thing from the Team Fortress 2 Halloween event.
Can you guys do a urea nitrate explosion?
wonder how well the satchel charges from rust would work as a breaching device and at the same time the beancan grenades alone that make it up
I bet there were a lot of raccoons after this video was made.
cool
Ceramic fall decorations please.
This seems like the kind of thing the IRA would have used to hide explosives next to the road.
You guys should make a modern take on the WWII-era Goliath tracked mine! Probably make it battery-powered, though, since gas is expensive right now!
For a video, you could reproduce that myth of the Chinese exploding helmets.
Maybe try a collaboration with High Speed Balistics or the High Speed Guys
Please try something with a hell canon 2.0
Love the T-shirt! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE, KHORNE FOR THE KHORNE FLAKES!
bla bla testing YT auto delete if I add a time stamp to the video. EDIT: comment still here?
EDIT2: yes it is, can't do comments with time stamps to the video anymore or YT auto deletes it. This YT stuff is so amazing and smart.
Plastic pumpkin claymores! Trick or ……. No just trick
I'm thinking that the pumpkin , fresh or dried , has slightly more structural integrity than the average wet Kleenex .
I would try merely using the disemboweled pumpkin carcasses as a convenient and fashionable disguise for more appropriate and effective devices , as it likely will not alter the performance of proven designs to any significant degree .
love the Warhammer shirt
I think the palm sized pumpkins might make better grenades
how could anyone argue y'all are fedbois, y'all don't even glow in the dark
Only on days that end in "y".
No way we could be feds or work for the government. We are too competent.
that's the real way to tell@@OrdnanceLab
Ok, we going to see turkey mines for Thanksgiving 🦃. I was laughing my but off watching pumpkins explode, and it was as affective as expected. 😅
Jake - what are you dressing up as for Halloween? Ricky Sargulesh from Party Down?
Try coating the pumpkin with resin/glue... Im wondering if coating one side may help direct the explosive blast or coating it entirely would help with pressure build-up for the frag
Would you get more out of the projectiles if you put a bag of water in the back of the pumpkin to help direct the blast towards the projectiles?
A small sealed jar packed with explosive inside a larger sealed jar packed with frag inside the pumpkin is the way to go , if you put ice behind the frag you can direct the effect. So ive heard...
You heard it from a guy......
"It's just a Halloween prank!"
The prank:
Hey guys, just a question bc im curious; is there any reason you didnt line the inside of the pumpkin with something so you could avoid the drying stage altogether?
big fan thanks :) also happy turkey day from the us!
An 850 FPS punkin seed is no laughing matter. Gobbless
That last blast didn’t make a lot of punctures but at least it knocked one of the silhouettes down.
And like the man said, you blowed them pumpkins up real good.
A pumpkin’s rind is naturally kind of segmented like a frag grenade. If you could find a way to dry them fully the rind should harden like a regular gourd, the ones traditionally used by mesoAmericans to store things including liquids. The edges of those can be hard enough to cut human skin (don’t ask me how I know) so no ball bearings would be needed. I have no idea how long that would take, maybe an improvised dehydrator big enough to hold several pumpkins is in order.
As always, thanks for a fun, informative video, if only on what not to do…
Hey, people named Joshua aren't so bad.... we had a Josh-off years ago. A battle royale of all the Joshua's.
Wow. Never thought I’d ever see a NFA registered pumpkin….
Pumpkin claymores!!!!
concrete pumpkin next time
That's actually a great idea.
Lol Where's billy corgan with this smashing pumpkin
would a vacumesealed water bladder in back help ?
test two large magnet holding the 600 ?
Video was fun and fit the mood, 8/10. Would be 10 if the guy who is "history major" appeared in costume of the Dude from Postal game
If you calculate the total “space” around the pumpkin you’ll find that you got a lot of hits on that small of a target.
For the algorithm for the youtuber
