"u know ur so stressed that u can't even cry" as (also) the eldest daughter/sister, this is my whole life in a sentence lmaoooo omg im so sorry u had to "learn" a lesson in such a stressful way! glad ur safe after all that.
also, idk if it's just me but calling or getting the police involved in my own country is already stressful enough so i completely understand that it's not your first choice to do in a foreign place. and since you don't know the language, that adds another layer to how stressful it could be. but damn you pulled thru!

If one dont go on the reddit page about traveling to China, most people do not understand how many things you have to prepare in advance for the trip to goes smoothly, like that 90% of VPN out there do not work in China or that classic taxi, you wont blink at twice in ur country have high level of scam when it comes to tourists. You did great despite all the hurdles, so happy ur trip turned out so great despite this awful starting bump❤

Hey Saki, I just wanted to let you know that I really felt it when you were talking about being the eldest of the siblings in the family. The pressure is unreal and just seeing you live your life and trying to make the best of every day is so comforting to me. Also, I feel so sorry for the taxi incident … just hearing you talk about it gave me anxiety as well xD but your boyfriend supporting you and giving you the motivational speak on the phone was the cutest, sounds like a keeper :D. I am truly sorry for what happened to you. Next time you travel to an unfamiliar place alone, it might be helpful to make some basic preparations. Consider downloading local apps, familiarizing yourself with exchange rates, and learning how to ask for help. This is especially important when visiting countries like China or India. It's crucial to take care of ourselves in such situations.

I am glad you had a good time in China eventually! I grew up in China and lived there until 20 and I still got scammed one time going to the airport. I wish your Chinese friend had told you you needed a visa, not to blame her obviously she had her own problems to worry about. A Chinese person usually is much more familiar with all the visa shenanigans because thats our life. Whenever a friend of mine told me they wanted to go to China the first thing I tell them is "you need a visa and it will take time and money to get it"
China is certainly not an easy destination to travel to, considering there are so many hoops to jump thru to use your normal internet tools. it is def a hard one. Now the rest of the world will be easy for you!

Your boyfriend is top tier for helping you and just being there during the situation. I can relate I had a similar childhood like yours with my immigrant mom. Least with traveling you learn a thing or two for the future! Some of these comments are wild but you live and you learn..
