    I knew a black woman who was giving her mothers address so her daughter could go to a better public school, and she got a year in jail for that. It’s crazy they got off so easy.

      I remember I was supposed to take a gap year, my parents approved it, and then changed their mind in July because my mom decided to go to school too and I was told I had to take at least one class or get kicked out so I ended up going to community College with my mom. We even accidentally took a class together a few semesters later.

    I'm a senior right now, but I remember when I was a sophomore, a senior at the time told another senior "I'm actually going to a real school, it's a university not a community college." And I was so mad, even if it wasn't directed to me. Just her statement was so ignorant and stupid.
    It's sad how students still put each other down just because of their future school.

      As someone who went to a university, I WARN people of going to a college or university for the sake of saying they did, I always recommend community college or even finding a way to not go to college at all (if possible). Because at times it really is a scam, taking your money and not even giving you everything you need for after you graduate.

    • @Luci-ue5px
      @Luci-ue5px 3 года назад +3

      Starting at the community college was the best thing. I did not have anyone but myself to pay for school, community college is affordable and education is the same as university. Got my associates, transferred to university got my bachelors. Community college they focus on education so you can work in the field of study, not just passing you (graduation rate). Anyone can still end up in their dream university if they so desire and can save a fortune by being a transfer student. I enjoyed very much doing both, also, employers like seeing diversity in resume, so it’s actually a big bonus. You show that you are a reasonable person, that’s why you should be hired. Associates (2 years) is an education to show for. I had no debt coming from community college, and had no problems transferring because I had a clear plan in mind and worked with community college counselors to get there. You get rewards and scholarships, and may even get employers to assist as well. I could go on and on, but I wish people understood the value of community college and did not take such opportunity lightly. I had good employers and got jobs as well.
      And yes, when I was in high school and we had to take a college test, I heard rich kids make funny comments as we walked through college hallways. I wonder where they are today lol 😆 10 years later

    • @jenzan
      @jenzan 3 года назад +1

      @@Luci-ue5px I totally agree, community colleges help one save a bunch of money, and it's still quality education. It's just the stigma that surrounds it that makes people turn away from community colleges. :( I 100% would've gone to a community college but I was lucky enough to get a nice scholarship to a four year school. I cheer on my friends and everyone else who strives to complete a higher education, no matter where they're educated.

    I attend UTRGV, it's a smaller university in South Texas. I got my bachelors degree and am currently getting my master's degree there. It's WAY less expensive compared to other schools and it's fully accredited so I'm happy.. I still have to pass an exam to get my certificate of clinical competence but the program prepares you for the same exam that everyone else in the program has to take. it's so true that no one cares what grades you get once you've graduated, as long as you have your degree, that's all that matters.
    Side note: I love your CBD products, it's helped my anxiety and has helped me focus on these stressful projects and study days.

    I live in Malta and we only have 1 university here (UOM- University of Malta), though we do have other educational institutions that can get you diplomas/degrees but aren't considered as universities (nor as prestigious) and don't have as many requirements to get into compared to UOM. In addition, people who are 23+ can apply for most UOM courses even if they do not satisfy uni requirements, but would have to go for an interview with UOM administration.
    All of the under grad courses are free here , except for post grad courses which vary from 1-8k (euros per year). We also get a yearly grant of 1k euros and 90 euros per month as stipend to compensate for the books we buy and for continuing our education instead of working.
    The fact that you guys in the US have to pay soo much to get into a school blows my mind.
    Edit: For reference, 1k euros equals 1170 US dollars

I transferred from a local community college, took AP classes in high school to build up credit, and applied for every possible scholarship while there were students who being recruited to come to my school to play on the new football team with an incentive of a full ride scholarship. Unfair didn’t even seem to cut it 😭

    Paying for a school name and it not working out is true! I'm still in community college and I've earned competitive positions that UPenn and NYU graduates didn't obtain. When I asked some of my employers why, they said that these graduates may have X school on their resume, and maybe they have some experience, but sometimes what it comes down to is your character and if you have real world experience/connections. Not only that, you gotta learn all the tricks to impress someone with your resume and interview. Some of these things won't be emphasize by a university because let's be honest, they don't care about you once you graduate.

Everyone tried to go out of state or to a big name/top tier university BUT I noticed that within a few years lots of them ended up transferring back home to go to local/state colleges. I went to a state school (Sam Houston State University-Eat ‘Em Up Kats!!) and loved every minute of it. Now finishing up my masters from another smaller university. I totally agree that people are more concerned with the image and reputation.

    During our 9th grade orientation our school put so much emphasis on the same senior project where you would have to write a paper, create a product and then present it in front of people. Me being painfully shy and extremely socially anxious at the time died internally when I heard this. Then we barely heard about it until my junior or senior year when they realized that we were never given time during school to work on it and it was never mentioned by our teachers. So they just let it go and I remember everyone being so relieved lol.

    I graduated with a Bachelors in Business from one of the 4 state schools we had in my state. But in high school we had a guidance counselor that would help us decide what "career path" we should take. I came from a family that didn't have a lot of money so he straight up said to me, "knowing your family you should just go to community College because you wouldn't make it at a 4 year school".... Well I applied to that 4 year college, got accepted, applied for scholarships and received them for my grades, and I graduated with my degree. And less than 1 year after graduating I had all my student loans paid off. So thanks for him doubting me cause I proved him wrong 🙌

    The system is completely rigged. I felt similarly in high school and told myself I just wasn’t even going to try and go to college because I knew my mom’s debt to income ratio was effed from her going to school and she wasn’t in a position to help me. Shortly before graduating high school I found myself pregnant and what a blessing in disguise because through the loop hole of “becoming another statistic” (single black teen mom) I was able to receive good financial aid. BUT THE CATCH is that now I’m in massive amounts of debt and CANT find work anywhere since the pandemic. It’s just a joke and really makes people feel like crap about themselves and their choices. I worked my butt off to receive my bachelors of science, worked the whole time, raised my family, and graduated early all to not be able to find a decent paying job. I love you guys 🤎

My mother in law was a professor at both Gonzaga University and at Spokane Community College in Washington State.
