Great review Erik I love this one! As I'm sure you know peated Glenturrets are classified under 'heavily peated' within SMWS classification and I love the character of them. Cheers Erik!
Since I am not reviewing a bottle from the SMWS (Scotch Malt Whisky Society) I don't see the relevancy as to how they classify Glenturret, especially since they don't identify the distillery on their bottles. In fact, they often don't even use casks from distilleries but only buy the spirit and put it in their own casks to matured at a different location. So, a "Glenturret" put in a different cask and matured elsewhere isn't really a Glenturret. Consequently I am finding a distinctive SWMS signature in their whiskies that makes them different than the distillery releases.
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies Oh all I was making a reference to how strong the peatiness of Glenturrets are since they're classified under 'heavily peated'. Sure they don't name the distillery but we know where they come from and even if SMWS uses their own casks the peated spirit is still from Glenturret. I see your point as to it not being a 'Glenturret' anymore but we could argue that most Taliskers, maturing miles and miles away from the distillery are not Taliskers anymore then :) Interesting point on the distinctive SMWS signature, I'll keep an eye or better yet a nose out for it 😃🥃
a case of this just arrived in my area. I'm going to grab one of them ASAP. Sounds really interesting. Found this review to be super informative and enjoyable. Thanks for all the explanations too.
Hi Erik I am a GT fan boy love love em !! The maiden release 12 year 2020 was excellent and although I’m probably in the minority the 2021 ..12 year to my taste ( little more sherry ) is even better . The 15 year is very good too , but in all honesty the law of diminishing returns applies here as for twice the money it’s only a smidgen better than the 12 . I have the 10 peat / smoke and I must say ( I’m off peat &smoke these days ) I haven’t reached for it in a while , but after your review ..It’s out for a tasting again tonight . Great channel sir ..keep em coming 👍🥃
NOTE: According to various sources, Glenturret Distillery changed from hand mashing to a Lautern mash tun in 2022.

Your highland peat series was a great time. This GT 10 is on the radar but now moving up the priority list.
