Fran, your translation from old to new drawing was brilliant! It looks like something out of your children’s/sci-fi illustration world. Good job staying true to who you are now and not giving into the fairies. I would totally watch an animated series with those little forest spirits. 💕
Hey Fran! Something you might want to try while experimenting with coloured pencils is using a colourless marker blender on them - it really makes for a neat effect that retains some of the "graininess" of the pencils, and a light washy-watercolour effect at the same time. Copic, Chartpak, Tombow and probably others make them - give it a shot! (Plus, it gives you another excuse to visit Blick's again!!!)
How can Fran get any better? Oh I know, give her coloured pencils and send her to New York! I adore the look you are getting from those colour pencils. I think it really adds something to your work, which I didn't think was possible :) I also love seeing New York in your video. Exciting times ahead!
I’m busy in uni and I never draw. I’m not good, but what I do sketch makes me and my bf laugh. Watching this video makes me want to draw again. But for right now I’ll just live through you and be impressed by your work. The coloured pencil work looks great. I really like it. Hi Fran!
I love watching all your videos but specially your draw with me videos!!! I know you are nervous to film yourself drawing but oh my I am always impressed and very entertained ! Loved your end result ! You inspire me to try coloured pencils as well :)
The fairy’s are lovely!! I love seeing your experiments with texture/different mediums and how it translates to your style. Thank you for sharing with us💕
This reminds me the sketchbooks I used when I was in high school and spent my time drawing, doodling, doing collages and experimenting. I think it's awsome you take time to try new art supplies, test them, do some personal research and challenges: that's how you grow and that's super professional! Also those fairies turned out so cute!
such a wonderful video! i look up to you so much as a person and a creator. my relationship to art is so much more fun and exploratory now a days, and i totally have your videos to thank for that. you’re the coolest, fran!
You did great with the colored pencils. I love using the prismacolor colorless blender for colored pencils; it lightens the overall hugh, but gives a smooth look and blends the colors nicely.
Fran I loved your redrawing of that 2005 sketch. I love my iPad Pro though, it saves me so much on art supplies. Pretty much like going from film to digital. When I saw what David Hockney did on the iPad I was sold. Traditional media has its place, but now if I can create it on a tablet that's my first choice. I work with a Huion GT 221 inch tablet in the studio and my 12.9 iPad Pro every where else, they are great tools to have.
The mini paint set is usually really bad. Just remove the cheap color and pour some of your own paint. Then you have a very portable watercolor set to use with a waterbrush. :) This is like a urban sketcher's hack. :) hope it helps
Fran, your videos are always so inspirational, fun, and chill! So glad you’re here to share with us. I’d be interested to know what art apps you’ve tried on the iPad, specifically which one you showed with the colored pencil effect. Could you talk a bit about how you use the iPad in your illustration process, and do you feel like it could be used in place of a cintiq, or would you always want both? Thanks so much, hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!
I love your videos. I feel like I'm chatting with a girl friend who encourages my art while she makes her own. Thank you for being vulnerable and doing things that scare you-- all artists should be that brave!!
I'm really into colour pencils at the moment. I started using colour pencils when I saw some of your videos and you were using the prismacol erase pencil to sketch. I love it :) Keep up with the good work Fran :)
Hi Fran! Thanks for the great video! Loved all of the texture with the coloured pencil! For your Ipad and Cintiq video, could you talk about if there are any limitations with the iPad, or if you can accomplish the same level of work as you can with the Cintiq? 🙂
I didn't read all of the comments, and someone may have suggested this already....Have you tried using colored pencil on top of your dry watercolor washes? It gets rid of the white paper specks and allows you to build depth of color without getting too much "wax bloom",. I love seeing you work and listening to you. You are such an inspiration, my Go to" when I need motivation. Your style is awesome!
Baby, some of the pencils you bought (the Caran d'Ache Supracolor) are watercolour pencils, which means you can go over them with water to create gradations or any other watercolour effect. Also, they are probably a bit too expensive to just use as regular colour pencils; and I am sure they feel sad to not be used the way they were intended. Fran, don't make the pencils cry!! (What I'm trying to say is, you should try to use some water on them.)
I'm glad someone else noticed! Extra note, the Faber Castell Polychromos pencils are oil-based, as opposed to the wax-based Prismacolor Premier pencils. They're soooo smooth.
You were my inspiration to become an illustrator and eventhough our style is completely different, despite you've never replied any of my comments/messages (😅), I think you're great. Please never lose the floor under your feet and keep being an inspiration to young artist 😊 greetings from Mexico
Those fairies killed me, ahaha, you're genius, Fran! And thank you so much for making my daily routine better - I can't imagine my like without your videos and illustrations that inspired me so many times. HAVE THE NICEST DAY EVER!☕️☕️☕️
The Rendr paper is amazing! I have a hardback Rendr sketchbook that I exclusively use for markers because it REALLY is no-show thru for any alcohol marker.
yayyy!!! i've been so looking forward to this, i hope you had a fantastic holiday, it looked amazing over on instagram, I love this! :D Can't wait for the next one yayayay xxxx
Hi Fran! ~ I'm so glad you're doing a review on the Ipad Pro! :) I do have a few questions about the IpadPro VS Cintiq since I've been planning to get an Ipad but I'm not sure if it's worth it. • Is it easy to transfer PSD files from the Ipad pro to your main setup (Cintiq) and vice versa? • Can you use the IpadPro and all the currently available drawing apps to do serious commission work? (like for example you want to take your work with you while traveling) • What are your favorite apps (art related & non art related) on the IpadPro? I'd also like to know your general thoughts about the IpadPro. How useful is it? Does it help with your productivity? and do you think it is worth investing in one as an artist.
¡Hola, Fran! ¡Saludos! Espero que tengan un precioso viaje~
I just came back from NY! (I didn't go many places though besides the Met museum, I had stuff to do) I love your videos btw they're really nice and motivating to watch.
I TOTALLY understand the discomfort with drawing while filming. I get all flustered over trying to draw at an aesthetically pleasing spot/camera angel and not mess up and it makes me feel more....stiff. Your re-draw came out super lovely though, I love her expression!
Fran!
I just got a bunch of Rendr sketchbooks because they are AMAZING!!!!!! Also just ordered a set of copic caio markers to use in them, waiting for their arrival!
fran, im trying out colour pencils too!! i find it a lot more tiring in some way because there's more pressure on my hand when i colour hahaha but it's soooo fun! im referencing ashley nicole deleon's illustrations bc she works with colour pencil too and they look so cute and her characters are always in interesting situations
Awesome video Fran!! So sad I missed you in NYC but it seems to me you had super fun! I also loveeee Blick! :) Really like how your drawing turned out, great textures and the outlining as you said gives it a lot of dimension and depth,. You really have the most amazing tips!!!!.... BTW what app do you use in your iPad Pro to sketch?
HI FRANN !!! i'm so happy to see you use color pencils ! I'm really into color pencils personaly ! I use theme on top of watercolor (which i'm using just for making the blank of the paper disappear ) My favorite brand are the polychromos by faber castell because they are oil based they have an hard lead very precise but very smooth and pigmented at the same time ! I'll hope that you'll like the cold pink that you have bought ! ( try a dark color with theme for lining you'll see that they are amazing ! ) Can't wait to see you drawing again !
Art materials hauls are amazing. Envious of your Moleskine purchases. Must get some more and looking forward to the new paper! Intrigued... will watch now :) lunch break of another illustrator lol
I've just started using more coloured pencils too, aren't they great?! I mostly use them for outlines at the moment (thanks to your videos, actually!) but I love the textures in the illustration you did in this video!
I'm looking forward to the iPad comparison video! I have a wacom draw tablet (less fancy than the cintiq) and I like it, but the stylus is not very precise...and of course there's lag because I'm drawing on a tablet and looking at my computer screen... Anyway, the iPad Pro is on my wish list, so I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it for illustration!
Oh, New York and drawing at the Met, swoon! Also, I just watched Princess Mononoke earlier this week, and your forest spirits made me think of those ones in the film :)
Oh Fran. Even though I’m older than you, I feel like you’re the cool older sister that I wish I had, or, that awesome babysitter who came over and introduced me to the coolest singers and makeup. Hahah!
Hello Fran, I'm a big Fran fan! Welcome to NY! Hope you had a great time. Brooklyn is becoming the hip place to be now. Love your drawings and vlogs. Can you tell me why you draw in a red or blue pencil? Keep making great videos!

I'm in love with your version of Victorian ladies. The soft colors blended so dreamy. And the little fairy buns cracked me up.
How can Fran get any better? Oh I know, give her coloured pencils and send her to New York! I adore the look you are getting from those colour pencils. I think it really adds something to your work, which I didn't think was possible :) I also love seeing New York in your video. Exciting times ahead!
thank you Taniaaaaaa :)

As always, a massive inspiration. Your videos always get my creative juices flowing xx
I love watching all your videos but specially your draw with me videos!!! I know you are nervous to film yourself drawing but oh my I am always impressed and very entertained ! Loved your end result ! You inspire me to try coloured pencils as well :)
Fran, you could draw with your feet and your eyes closed and we'd be proud of you. Everything you do looks so beautiful! The illustration is amazing!
You, Kendyll and Holly are my TOP 3 favorite RUclips artists to watch, and the fact that you know both of them makes it 10000x betterrrrrr
I love it how you laugh each time you see your older artwork.
I love getting to see you experiment with different techniques and ideas! Thank you for sharing, Fran!
The fairy’s are lovely!! I love seeing your experiments with texture/different mediums and how it translates to your style. Thank you for sharing with us💕
Yey do the mini paint challenge 🙌🏼 Yess. Much love from Puerto Rico. Keep being awesome 😎

Missed you so much Fren :). Hope you enjoyed your Holiday. I hope ed is good too. Miss you all a lot. Now my happy again seeing u :)))
Yesss, the bullet sharpener is the best! I bought it for less than 2€ in the Netherlands once. I’ve had one since forever and it is still super sharp!

I want to get one from Party City now and do this. ☺️☺️☺️

Wow. Loved how you showed the difference between the two illustrations. One having more personality and everything! Love this video. ❤️
hi Fran, like you sooooo much! Every time when I watch your video , I always learn a lot. And your video makes me feel relaxed and happy.
The challenge with the mini paint set is a great idea.
8:23 2005 me would have thought that was amazing. You reacting to your old art is so me! Ugh! I love looking at old art of mine and cringing!
You and Ed should totally make a video about how you guys met and your love story
I love your videos. I feel like I'm chatting with a girl friend who encourages my art while she makes her own. Thank you for being vulnerable and doing things that scare you-- all artists should be that brave!!

Rendr sketchbooks are amazing for markers, they don't show through at all and polychromo's are the best
Oh Fran i think you are the only RUclipsr in this planet who make my day love you so mush girl ! Kisses from Algeria

I love the colours you've choiced, it brings more intensity to your draw!^^
Your drawings are so charming! I really need to use pencil crayons more too. Also I agree about the -Procreate pencil brush, it’s amazing!
I love the crescent rendr sketchbook for markers, 💜 completely bleed proof!!!
The recreation of that illustration is just adorable!!! Also, those color pencils really blends nicely together
You were my inspiration to become an illustrator and eventhough our style is completely different, despite you've never replied any of my comments/messages (😅), I think you're great. Please never lose the floor under your feet and keep being an inspiration to young artist 😊 greetings from Mexico

I loved the flower fairy guys! And I really liked the editing style you used for the drawing process! I feel like it really suits your personality c:
Don't be nervous Fran! Your work is amazing! :)
It was really fun watching you redraw an old drawing! I would love to see more of that :)

The Rendr paper is amazing! I have a hardback Rendr sketchbook that I exclusively use for markers because it REALLY is no-show thru for any alcohol marker.
Beautiful color palette. I would put down the marker color first as a flat color and then use the colored pencils on top of the marker for texture.
Laura D i
This was so much fun to watch! I'd love seeing you re-draw other old sketches sometime in the future :)
Every time you post a video I get SO happy. 💕💕💕
I love these illustrations with color pencils! Live your videos so so so much Fran 💕
