    Thank you so much for this vid and the rest of your tutorials on the Z1000! They don't have many vids on this bike. I only have 9,500 miles on my 2012 Z1000 but aim to tackle the maintenance myself when needed. Great camera, lighting and audio work without mindless gibberish. Subbed and liked!

      Hey Mr Kitty. A 2012 with 9,500!!? Those were the days. My 2012 has 84,000++ now. Hence all the maintenance I guess. Glad you are finding these useful. Keep watching!

    Hi,my 2015 is not engaging in gear at all,I am planning on changing the clutch plates on my own, since I have been doing all the maintenance my self,I am willing to take the risk,but my confidence level was on the lower side,but after watching your vid my confidence level boosted a lil bit,I appreciate everything you do,def saved me money.
    I just have a couple of concerns,if you could help out please.
    1, should I order the whole clutch kit $337.00…or should I get just the clutch plates only for $104.00.(I am assuming,I would know after I see the inside condition)
    2, you soaked the plates in the engine oil?

    Great vid, I just went on a group ride this past weekend and ended up broke down, pretty sure the clutch is shot. Ive done many clutch repairs on cars but never a motorcycle. Well see ho this turns out but at least now I have an idea what I'm looking at.

    This video and the rest of your video's are just great.
    It will surely help me a lot when I will do maintenance on my 17 model this coming winter starting with changing the stock air-filter with a K&N one.
    Keep up the good work Wrenchie ;)

    I'm at the same point with the clutch cover not coming off, it moves a little but something is holding it in. Really don't wanna try and pry between the mating surface.

    • @Wrenchie
      @Wrenchie  3 года назад

      Sorry for late reply. Did you get it off? You need to turn the lever on the case that the clutch cable connects to (once the cable is removed) and it will disengage from the contraption inside.

    Did all this on my 2006 z1000, forgotten how many times i have taken it apart over the last few weeks, still can't get the clutch to disiengage, on mine it has dots to line up parts etc and even doing this the damn thing still won't work, so don't know if its a problem with the needle roller bearing on the clutch hub?

    • @Wrenchie
      @Wrenchie  4 года назад

      Yeah, that sucks. Beats me... the needle bearing is easy enough to change.. before going to the dealer

      correct but two of two of the friction plates are a different part number from the other 8. www.partzilla.com/catalog/kawasaki/motorcycle/2012/ninja-1000-zx1000gcf/clutch

    Hello Wrenchie...Question....I'm trying to order the clutch friction pads and the metal plates for my 2015 ninja 1k sx...the problem is..there are like 3 different numbers for the metal plates....its confusing me because I don't know which ones to order... I've purchased the friction pads before, but never the metal. I thought there was only one part number for the metal...but evidently there are different ones to meet the proper stack height. Pls help...im so confused now.

    • @Wrenchie
      @Wrenchie  4 года назад +2

      Hi Bigg TY. Yeah, its a little confusing. there are three part numbers indeed. 9 of the same plates part# 13089-0009 and then one each for the "friction plate" and the "spring" plate, part numbers: 92200-1260, and 92144-1854, respectively. The friction plate 92200-1260is flat, the spring, is convex. Take note of how they come out of the bike so you can orient them in the correct order and orientation when you reassemble. Good luck!!
      BTW- please check these numbers with your local shop, shop manual, etc. I just looked them up online. Not sure they are exact for your bike.

      Ok Wrenchie...one more question ..I changed my clutches...works fine....but once I got to riding, my doggone oil pressure light is now fluttering... I changed the oil last week... Did the filter "burp" process....repeated it yesterday...light still coming on and off...mainly after I throttle, then release. Any Ideas....im hoping it's just a bad sensor but I really don't know. Any advice from you would be helpful. Thanks bro.

      Note....it wasn't coming on until I went back in and changed clutches..not sure if that has anything to do with it or not tho.

    Hey wrenchie! Love your videos! They’ve helped me so much! Question. I have the same year ninja as you and was wondering. Have you had any problems with it not being able to go over 6000 rpms? In all gears I can’t get over 6000 rpms and as soon as it hits 6000 it starts to lose power and I have to change gears. I don’t know what’s causing it.

    • @Wrenchie
      @Wrenchie  5 лет назад

      Hi Christian. Thanks. No, I have no problem getting to red line. It could be a lot of things. I'm totally guessing here but maybe the CDI is hosed (constant discharge ignition). It sounds electrical as you start ok right? and it runs fine up to about 6000 rpms. Could be clogged fuel line/filter - but that doesn't feel right either. Maybe someone on the channel knows. This might be a trip to the shop. :(

    Gonna do this in the next few days. 17k miles and first gear slips if I'm too fast with the clutch/throttle. New to me bike, so I figure the previous owner was loose off the green light. Maybe I'll get lucky and only have to replace 1st gear clutch plate.

    • @Wrenchie
      @Wrenchie  5 лет назад

      While you have it apart, check all clutch friction and steel plates. Also check basket grooves for burs or rough spots. That will keep the plates from sliding freely as they should

    • @Explore-Gobal
      @Explore-Gobal 5 лет назад

      @@Wrenchie Will do. I have a feeling the previous owner may have glazed the plates, we'll see. Making a video of the process and would like to link back to you for the inspiration if you don't mind.

    • @Explore-Gobal
      @Explore-Gobal 5 лет назад

      Couple more questions, did you buy a complete clutch kit including steel plates? Do the steel plates only go in one way or doesn't matter? Me thinks you bought some sort of complete kit as you changed the convex spring too. And yes, I know about your follow up video on that faux pas, lol. Just saw the link on clutch basket drilling - that will be my next watched video. Thanks for sharing.

      @@Explore-Gobal I could not find a kit :( . I bought individual parts from Kawasaki Parts House (Babbits). Had to order each piece. There are two different friction plates from the rest: the first and last plate. The steel plates have a sharp side and a smooth edge side... you'll see. I could not find a reference in the shop manual on which side goes out so I put the sharp side towards the engine on all plates
