Great job guys! I don’t know if both of you meant too, but what a great witness for what God has done in your lives. First time I’ve heard Ronnie speak other than BASS. Good guy. Thanks Todd, always enjoy your vids.
As technology advances the end of BASS and MLF gets closer. Retailers are debating about dropping fishing products in stores. Sales are down in every sector except spinning rod and reels and ffs baits. Shimano has cut research into baitcasters for the first time ever!! Media viewership is down regardless of the lies the organizations tell you. That means less dollars. Its sad.
Its coming. I know they think they're bringing in a younger generation but the truth is most bass fisherman and fisherman in general don't start fishing or get really serious about recreational fishing until they get older. Ya there's still a lot of young people in the sport but most of them don't have the money like the 40+ yr old age group. And from what i see and hear from people i talk to locally most dont like it. Even the ones that dont care either way say they wouldn't mind if it went away bc they're starting to see the negative side of it. Nothing will get done about it until the states start putting restrictions on it and that will most likely come from the crappie populations taking a hit.
From around the 32 minutes mark on is why I love TC! He's literally one of the greatest minds in this sport ever! I only seriously follow a few guys in this sport and he's one of them. While I watch many others and always will, you gotta follow what you believe. Ronnie is an absolute fantastic commentator and really good stick as well. Excellent Excellent show gentlemen.
Other sports find the best talent in country. regardless of how much money they have if you got the juice you can make it. In fishing you can have the juice but unless you got the money you cant make it. The elite series doesn't have the best bass fisherman in the country anymore. They're just the ones that can afford to play.
If it takes money to win, why don't people use the offseason to make more money to "pay to win"? I mean if you are referring to having more FFS transducers as "having the money", grind out the offseason to make $10k to buy two more transducers.
Great podcast and many good points covered. I’m tired or livescope as well and I wish it didn’t exist and we were all competing with rod and reels and reading the environment we are in without technology. I’m just afraid the days of no technology are over. Even if it was banned in tournaments, the recreational angler would be educating the same fish on the same bodies of water. Tournaments weights would be down a lot I think. Would it be as fun going and catching one 3 pounder on Saturday because the deep school is moving on the river channel swing and you can’t pinpoint them without scope? Or would it be more fun sniping them suckers off bottom on a minnow as they slide around. Still takes a hammer to find the kinda spot that really got giant bass and everyone else has overlooked it
Great job Todd and Ronnie! Both of you are among the best minds in bass fishing. Your insight and opinions are going to shape the future of the sport we love. Great to see you two together bouncing ideas back and forth. Hope
Todd thank you for putting this Podcast up and being such a great example of following Gods purpose for you! You always have such a positive outlook. Ronnie does a great job at BASSMASTER Live. He is also another example of how God has worked in his life. You are both very inspiring to me for sure. Again thanks for just being you!!
Man that was a great interview. Ronnie said some stuff that surprised me but in a good way. But yet you’re still will have people set in their ways in how they think “professional fishing” should be.
I love everyone's view and take on FFS, and I have mine as well. It has no place in top level tournament bass fishing. Todd is correct that the skill of a professional won't matter anymore.
I’ve argued against and for FFS. I like it. But I hate that it’s taken over the sport . In the pros they all have it . Lots of guys are using it . Only one guy can win . So someone is doing it better than the rest. So it still takes skill . Lots of guys doing it that didn’t have a good finish.
Right now my front depth finder doesn’t work again and I think I can still complete in my club and Tuesday night tournaments. I don’t think the guys I fish against aren’t still waiting until I weigh in to count their winnings.
You can say all you want about FFS being just 1 of many techniques. But at the end of the day you are still throwing at a fish you can (SEE) not at a fish that you think might be there ! Thats huge ! Fishing will never be the same ! It will take awhile, but eventually it will be banned on the state fisheries level !
That’s a great reply , I don’t agree with everything you say but I really like your honesty. I never miss a show . When are you getting started on your tackle wall / pegboard? Oh another question? Are you completely comfortable with Lithium as a starting battery / have you had any alternator issues with lithium. I’m thinking about making the switch soon! I’m on a retirement budget and can’t afford engine issues .
Ray Scott wanted to ban braid because of the advantage it gave anglers. Ronnie replied to me on twitter he would have been in favor of FFS due to the extra revenue it creates. Ray is still rolling over in his grave. I seriously doubt he would have allowed it. Between that and all the shady stuff going on maybe Maury Povich should host Bass Live. 😂
For some reason I expected a vanilla interview from Ronnie. He was a great interview, love his take on livescope and his comparison to how the three pointer and Steph changed basketball.
Great segment, glad you mentioned Sharon Harris Lake NC that was one of my home lakes back in the 80's and 90's Also Jordan, Falls and Buggs had some big guns in them...But Harris was absolutely a blast we would toss 1 0z Cotton Cordell Spots 3/4 Oz Hawg Callers And Poe's 400+p the bigger the bait the better...11# 12oz was my PB there on Harris...
This was hard to watch. Ronnie is a tool, a partisan. I didn't realize he's been getting his feelings hurt about the livescope comments. lol Per most conversations about livescope, there is no criteria for discussion, just two country boys shooting the breeze. Is livescope fair chase, is it ethical? Does it hurt sales, population, viewership?
Comfort and revenue .. Tod getting down to where the rubber meets the road. Good business is a product and good intent behind the product. I'm buying what ol'Tad is selling.
Technology dosnt need to be limited. To limit the effect batteries, AH & Volts, total inches of screen, and number transducer will make Anglers choose what they want to focus on.
I have talked for and against FFS….. but I guess if you get rid of it, everybody goes back to a cane pole, no reel, and a Jon boat you have to scuttle…..
Well the pros can't say they don't want it that have big sponsors by the big sonor company's can't really say how they feel. Can't bite the hand that feeds you. Go John cox
FFS is hurting the bait companies if it keeps going this way the will go out of business. I am 58 and fish with and around young fishermen and that all they want to do is scope with a spinning rod with a minnow. I am a shallow water power fishermen and they dont have a idea of how to do it. Go John Cox
I like fishing off shore. I even like ffs. But I like shallow power fishing the most. I don’t want to have to scope all the time to compete . Seeing so many tournament won that way gets old .
Man I know it’s prob personal but if possible you should do a video on that story from 2010 when you almost quit tournament fishing I would love to hear it!
Kid sucks, captain America over here, just has a better mindset than everyone else, cuz they’re weak and not like me, I’m gunna get it done, gtfo of here dude
Scoping has changed the sport so much. The question is , is it as entertaining as it was before. Is it as competitive as it was before . I use to love fishing tournaments. Now I’m not sure I want to any more . If I have to scope all the time it just isn’t the same thing.
Those are both important questions. I'm in the same boat. Both watching and participating in tournaments have lost their appeal. You can sell it any way you want, but no pro circuit can claim to have the best anglers when technology does more work than the angler. Breaking FFS down by the commentators isn't helping. I understand it still takes some skill, but it still basically comes down to see a fish, watch your lure, see how the fish reacts and bites your lure, and set the hook. It is now laughable to even folks who don't fish, yet these commentators keep towing the company line and selling it. If I watch it now, it is more for comedic relief. The results mean nothing to me anymore.
@@jmelvin901 I get it . I have active target . It was part of the pro package on my boat. I like to use it sometimes. But it’s not something I want to do all the time and I don’t want to have to use it. I’ve fished tournaments since the early 90s . But I haven’t fished one tournament this year. I also only watched the first couple BASS tournaments this year . I will probably watch some. When they fish lakes I like . Other than that, I’ve lost a lot of interest. I somewhat disagree about all they have to do is look for fish on ffs. In the spring they use FFS in the mouth of the creeks and in the guts of the creeks. Pre spawn areas. In the summer they use it on main lake flats. Summer areas. What ffs has shown me is . In the past guys fished likely areas until they fish came to them. Or they hit a lot of likely areas until they find a school. So it’s really just an educated guess. Still some guys are better at it than others.
I appreciate your thoughts. I guess I was trying more to describe what BASS is trying to do to showcase FFS. Circle the bass, say this is the fish he is targeting, circle the bait falling and then say watch the bass eat it before he sets the hook. My girlfriend who hates fishing saw that segment, and said you don't do that do you? Her message was clear....not much of a challenge. I said nope but apparently the best anglers in the world do. I find the whole thing an embarrassment to BASS. I really had to chuckle when they tried to emphasize the skill needed to accurately cast ahead of a moving bass and then later showed a bass turning to bite a bait behind them.
The basketball reference has to be the most ridiculous comparisons ever! Pretty safe to say all the members on Bassmasters Live have to defend technology because it's their paycheck. Bassmasters "Professional fishing" is a joke now. Idle around until you see bait/ fish on the screen is not fishing. My 13 yr old nephew is unbelievable with livescope and could probably be in the AOY top ten with $125,000 boat, $60,000 in electronics and got waypoints and info from guides. Tournament fishing is going wrong way fast!
The NBA analogy is BS in my opinion . Basketball players are not using tech in the game. It’s not like there’s a computer telling them when to shoot and how hard to throw.
@@rogbass no electronics used as an aid in the game . It’s not an equal comparison . PED’s are banned in pro sports though . You even used the word illegal in your comment! 🤪
@@basscat2107 it changed how you put a roster together . But mostly the game is played the same on the field. There was more of an emphasis on home runs. But the recently changed the rules to counter that.
I would ban it for half the events for next year. That way we can see how it evolves and which events are the best and get the best ratings. That also gives both styles a chance to compete.
Understanding Why is the key. BASS is a business . For me as a viewer and Life long fisherman, I would understand the format of your broadcasts easier if I knew where your revenue streams were coming from.I would think as a business, that one would always favor were the most support financially is coming from. Survival. We as viewers would better understand why policy decisions are made and could decide for ourselves how to support BASS. As a viewer, showcasing the Quality of the Lake would be the priority. How many big fish are out there? Where do they hang out? How do I catch them? Thanks for your discussion.
Nothing separates fishermen any more except who happened to drive over the bigger fish. Technique, experience and intuition used to account for 90% of an angler’s success, and used to separate the field. Now it accounts for 10%. We used to be able to learn from watching the pros. No one learns anything watching a dude stare at a screen.
Man Ronnie is very good at what he dose ! Very knowledgeable! Smooth < I think he picked up alot from Zona ? Ya and I think he can catch them ! Peace & Happy Birthday!🎊🎉🎊🎈
It’s ruined pro fishing. You can still win 1 day events at the house just fishing. It’s harder than before but still doable. I’ve completely lost interest in the pro stuff and it’s 100% because of FFS. I know Ronnie will say I’m wrong and I’m not supposed to believe that way but it is what it is.
well Ronnie's argument with basketball is a terrible analogy.. there was no tech that made a 7 footer shoot 3s. That was done through percentages. A man shooting 35% 3 range is better than 70% 2 pointer. this has been the theory since the 90's.. so his stand is not relevant.
They have a good tournament and everyones like see its not all dominated by livescope lol. Even coxs will tell you hes not having a great season. Keep in mind they fish more than the elite series so his season performance isn't solely based on those tournaments. He even said hes thinking about leaving bass tournaments and been look at getting into redfish
@@Tom_Tahmas I’ve argued for and against ffs . I think a lot of arguments against it are not real. But the biggest problem I have with it. Is it has completely changed the sport. Nothing in the past made other technics nearly obsolete . It’s not the same game it was even 5 years ago.
@timg185 i know people dont like my opinion but i just don't consider it fishing in the sense of what its always been for me. Im also the type of person who likes scouting and preparing for a hunt more than i like actually taking an animal. I don't mind coming home empty handed. The ffs debate is about like the crossbow debate for archery hunting. To each their own but i cant help that i don't consider using a crossbow with a scope on it the same accomplishment as taking a deer with a regular bow. And the record books for deer do put asterisks next to deer taken with modern equipment.
Im also passed the anger phases about allowing it at all. Im passed the disappointment phase in anglers, tournaments, and even the states on not doing something about it. Im in the do whatever phase and will face the consequences when we get there. I just won't participate in tournaments and i wont support the organizations anymore. Ill accept being in the minority and taking the loss but people need to accept that some of us will never consider their accomplishments with ffs the same as before.
@@Tom_Tahmas i disagree with the argument that it’s not fishing . But you are correct that it’s not fishing in the sense that it use to be. As I’ve said , it’s changed the game. It’s not the sport it use to be . As far as tournaments go. There’s 3 pro leagues now . I would think one of them would decide to ban it . Because there’s obviously a market for it. I think BASS and MLF are afraid to do it. Because they don’t want to be behind the times and be irrelevant . Plus they depend on sponsor dollars. It would be smart IMO for the MPFL to do it. It would separate them from the bigger pro leagues and fill a void in the market.
If you finish 51 in AOY. You’re a good fisherman. But you still didn’t make the classic. The guys scoping would most likely not do as well if it was banned. Especially when they haven’t spent the time learning other technics.
I totally disagree you wouldn’t have made it with livescope. I think a 19 year old Todd now would have a cheap aluminum boat, a used 9” graph with a used lvs 32 you got for $1000, and you’d wear them out. I honestly think it’s cheaper in some ways.
On Livingston YES, on Rayburn where I started to make some real money no. Half the tournaments are won that way now and I was winning a lot back then. It would have been tough and I was always on verge of not having enough to cover year to year.
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 I'm saying you would've figured out a way to get livescope on your boat as a young tournament angler, and probably saved money overall with less running time and less time required to prepractice. In the grand scheme of tournament fishing, a used 9" garmin with a used LVS32 livescope setup is the greatest bargain in bass fishing when it comes to actually catching fish.
Caitlin Clark is livescope?..... not a very good analogy. She-He has worked hard to become a great player, livescope allows anyone with minimal knowledge to find fish... not catch.... but find fish.
If everyone had access to the shoes than the better than average guy could jump higher as well or the average guy who stayed in the gym and work ate and slept basketball would be better than average. Technology isn’t always a bad thing
Listen to start to finish, my take is Ronnie believes that BASS can't survive without FFS, he's all in on it, which naturally in his view makes dummies on the other side.....
He’s not in on it for the same reason fishermen are in on it. It puts Bass in a bad spot and despite what people might think it’s not a money issue. The issue is that while fishing progresses forward it puts a standstill on the elites. I understand how that’s an issue. Either way I don’t think banning it or not will help, I think they are in a tough spot and I’ve been saying that for a year. It’s why I’m glad I dont fish professionally, I think it’s going the wrong direction as a whole to be a pro
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 I think when (hopefully when) they let everyone know with a straight answer yes or a no / limitation or none it will take some of the drama and this back and forth among fans out of it. And the sooner the better.
No matter what you do or don't do nobody is going to like it so why not piss off equally days 1 and 2 no livescope days 3 and 4 anything goes that way its split evenly and everyone gets pissed off equally
You can say the same thing about every sport. Materials at the very raw form are produced into better pieces of equipment. From shoes/cleats, to helmets, to balls, bats, hockey sticks, skates, heck, field turf, dome stadiums, health studies, athlete longevity…
@@Kylewatchesstuff but they regulate other sports to maintain the tradition and competitiveness. They could use aluminum bats in MLB . But it wouldn’t be baseball anymore. It would be a home run derby.
@@timg185 ok, baseball…from the wound ball era, creating more runs, adding pitch clocks to speed the game up, which is strictly for entertainment for the FANS. Doesn’t livescope do the same? FFS creates MORE fish catches for the FANS. Sports are entertainment…nothing more.
@@Kylewatchesstuff okay . Still there’s limits . There’s a line somewhere. When too much is too much . I’m not even saying ffs is that line . But in a lot of peoples opinions it is . I haven’t fished a tournament this year and I barely watch any tournaments. I’ve lost interest . It’s not the same game that I use to love.
Fish catches doesn’t necessarily excite me that much . I catch fish all the time. Seeing lots of different patterns and which on prevails is more interesting IMO. Guys figuring out how to catch them during tough condition is interesting to me . I knew how smith lake would be won as soon as I seen it on the schedule .
That dude Ronnie is clueless FFS is ruining fishing, viewership, tackle industry and careers. It doesn’t matter if if locals still pressure a lake locals don’t have 200 boats in tournaments on the lake for a week to 10 days.
Livescope is now just an added excuse to the old man fisherman’s excuse book. Blue bird skies, post frontal, no wind, too much wind, east wind, cloudy, cows were laying down, cold muddy water, livescopers caught them better than me 😂😂😂
Your words are falling on deaf ears Todd. There’s only one way to prove the point and nobody wants to hear or see it, somebody’s feelings might get hurt.
I'm not a fan of FFS. Like Todd said, it's not necessarily the FFS itself, but what will it morph into, and then next, and then next. This technology road is the bridge too far in the upper levels of professional fishing (Elite, Opens, BPT, Invitationals). It needs to be banned.
Todd could you let Ronnie now im not against this young generation pro. Its not there fault they have this tech its the company's and BASS for letting it go this far. If they limit it to one unit its still going to be dominated by it. You must have one without one with. Maybe a two lake classic over 4 days and no cuts everyone fishes all 4 to make it fair. But we are losing are past its insane. So if a company comes out with a bait that when it gets close to a fish it is drawn to it. Well he would say we didn't make it they are just using it. I am a trap shooter it would be like a device you could put on your gun to that when your lead got right it would beep and you would pull the trigger. Its crazy. I guy around here locked a crappie and followed it for 1.5 hours until he finally caught it. 4 plus pounds. He made the mistake of telling what he did to catch it he has been well roasted by all the crappie fishermen. I love fishing and Jesus Christ but like the Good Book says treat people the way you want treated and i think they have kinda craped on the guys who did it one way for 30 years and the love of money is the root of all evil and thats whats driving this so dont sugar coat it. Go John cox
You can't ban FFS, that cats been out of the bag for years & banning stuff is stupid! There should also be some limitations on the tech the tournaments should allow also. Their "professionals" so they should be able to consistently catch fish anywhere in the country any time of year without the tech. FFS is so dominant on winning it is becoming less interesting to follow. I like FFS & have it on my kayak. It's cool! It's helped me find & catch a lot more fish. I also see way more fish that won't bite than I see that I can get to bite. It takes skill to learn. As an angler & a fan of the sport I wanna see who's the best all around anglers. Not the best at just FFS. If there was half tournaments with & half without or something to slit it up a little. It would show who's the best angler's & not just best using FFS. Idk for sure but I think there is guys that would not be able to consistently compete without it...? I may be wrong about that? I would like it to be proven one way or the other
Here's the problem. There are 5 percent if the viewers going on every RUclips video talking LS down, and the other 95 percent that don't really care, are saying nothing.... It's not as it seems
I don't feel sorry for anybody complaining instead of putting in the work especially when we're talking about professionals somebody just tell these old people that are complaining their a doctor visit away from getting Adderall and curving the edge period

AND AT TIMES I DIDNT THINK THE LIVESCOPE WAS REALLY THAT CLEAR KINDA FUZZY AT TIMES
Analytics is tech, and 100% changed the sport
@@basscat2107 it changed how you put a roster together . But mostly the game is played the same on the field. There was more of an emphasis on home runs. But the recently changed the rules to counter that.
I would ban it for half the events for next year. That way we can see how it evolves and which events are the best and get the best ratings. That also gives both styles a chance to compete.
I hope BASS gets rid of Bass Trak and moves to a real score board that the anglers are aware of.
Good conversation
Nothing separates fishermen any more except who happened to drive over the bigger fish. Technique, experience and intuition used to account for 90% of an angler’s success, and used to separate the field. Now it accounts for 10%. We used to be able to learn from watching the pros. No one learns anything watching a dude stare at a screen.
I agree with a lot of this
Weird how all the guys towards the top of the AOY seem to keep getting lucky and driving over bigger fish
Man Ronnie is very good at what he dose ! Very knowledgeable! Smooth < I think he picked up alot from Zona ? Ya and I think he can catch them ! Peace & Happy Birthday!🎊🎉🎊🎈
RONNIE
It’s ruined pro fishing. You can still win 1 day events at the house just fishing. It’s harder than before but still doable. I’ve completely lost interest in the pro stuff and it’s 100% because of FFS. I know Ronnie will say I’m wrong and I’m not supposed to believe that way but it is what it is.
Great conversation Todd, really enjoyed it!
FFS is not a problem, but they are gonna change the rules about it. Ha
well Ronnie's argument with basketball is a terrible analogy.. there was no tech that made a 7 footer shoot 3s. That was done through percentages. A man shooting 35% 3 range is better than 70% 2 pointer. this has been the theory since the 90's.. so his stand is not relevant.
John Cox and Hackney are not having the success they should be having .
Make Ronnie Moore CEO and president of BASS and Todd Senior V.P. Then do a podcast of staff meetings!!!! O.M.G.
Ronnie... Is the "unfiltered" that you mentioned about Hackney still available, and if so, where can I find it?
There’s a playlist on the Bassmaster RUclips called Unfiltered with Hackney’s and more.
Love the talk about our LORD. Really needed it. God bless
Ronnie always defends ffs and if they made basketball shoes that make the average guy jump higher if they could afford them should he be in the NBA
If everyone had access to the shoes than the better than average guy could jump higher as well or the average guy who stayed in the gym and work ate and slept basketball would be better than average. Technology isn’t always a bad thing
Yeah man.. i just feel Ronnie is a “yes man” no matter the subject. Towing the line…
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Records are meaningless now. Before and after ffs is two completely different games.
Blue bird skies, post frontal, no wind, too much wind, east wind, cloudy, cows were laying down, cold muddy water, livescopers caught them better than me 😂😂😂
That's the truth. There was also an uproar about side imaging, sonar, and other electronic innovations too...
😂😂😂😂
I don't know how GPS / Mapping gets a pass. That is 100% still the biggest advancement in fishing tech imo
Banned or not they need to put something in place to stop the progression
😴😴😴
U need to finish ur sentences, good show though.
I don't feel sorry for anybody complaining instead of putting in the work especially when we're talking about professionals somebody just tell these old people that are complaining their a doctor visit away from getting Adderall and curving the edge period
First comment
Livescope is the sin eater for a bad limit or tourny... I would have won if it wasn't for those pesky livescopers... lol
Its sad.
