One of my all-time favorites. I will have some tip money for you soon or at least. buy you a couple of cups of coffee. Your videos are an inspiration even for an old guy like me. Just about to complete my first CBG when I ran fishing line only to see that the action was way too high. Just like on your first box and just like on your first box the top was dead flat even. Lesson learn. God bless you young man for all your time and effort making the videos and instructions on playing and building CB Guitars. I'll be in the garage trying to correct my mistake otherwise like you, I will have a big old bite of humble pie and hang up my #1 trophy to show my mistake of what not to do. ha ha ha Thanks again and enjoy the cup of jo.
Thanks so much, executivejet. I do love coffee :) Thanks also for watching the videos. Yes, my first one didn't come out too good, but I learned a lot from that build. What to do and NOT do. Hopefully you can make some adjustments and get it working, if not, it will be a nice one to hang on the wall, and start you another one. :) M~
That's one of the first songs I want to play on my beautiful Brickhouse CBG that's on the way here as I type, can't wait to get it. That sounded so incredible. Thanks for the video 👏👍
@@SouthernFireGuitars If all works out I will be buying one of the lightning CBG's from you in about 5 weeks (mid Jan.). I fell in love with that thing soon as a laid eyes on it.
Thank you! Thank you for this! I managed to learn it with slide as I’m 65 and the fingers aren’t so nimble. Do you have other easy ones like this? Blessings on you for all you do to bring music into our lives 🙏🏼💐💖
Thanks for the lesson. I am new to guitars and cigar box guitars. I have a question if you can help me with it. I have made four guitar box guitars. I have difficulty tuning them and have broken a couple strings. I have used a tuner and a chromatic tuner. They tune with the chromatic tuner but it won’t come close to matching a regular tuner. What am I doing wrong? What size strings do you use? I buy the 3 string packs from C.B. Gitty.
Your welcome, John. Thank you for checking it out. I always tune my 3 string CBG's on the chromatic tuner, I never use the guitar 6 string setting for my CBG's. I use bronze wound strings .040 .030 .022. The 3 string packs from CB Gitty should work fine. If you tune your CBG using a chromatic tuner to an open G, strum the open G chord and then strum a G chord on a 6 string guitar, they will sound exactly the same as far as pitch. M~
Your welcome. Thank you Michael, for checking them out. Congrats on your first CBG. If want to only play slide you can leave it fret less, If you want to also play some different chords and do a little lead pickin, your going to want frets. Its really a preference. Good luck. M~
Love your videos Michael. are your 2 G strings tuned an octave apart or 2 octaves? on my home built acoustic CBG I just cant seem to achieve the lovely airs that you produce.
Thank you Michael. The 2 G strings are an octave apart. If your cbg is sounding a little out of key as your sliding up the neck, check the intonation. M~
Southern Fire Guitars, I was watching a video you posted where you taught how to play Amazing Grace on a 3 string, but without using a slide. I can not find that video again. Can you post a link to it?
oooo this is nice! i like that is isn't too busy? i cnat explain it but everything about this version sounds good... thanks for sharing. umm.. the only thing that would make it better would be a dog laying in ur shop listening to u play... or running round that big yard?! and i'am coming to u from Minnesota wher the sun always shines and the children are above average :)
Your welcome, Amanda. Thanks for checking it out. Buster is usually lying on the floor listening to me play , but he was outside barking at the squirrels. :) M~
Got a question for you I have a homemade cigar guitar box tuned it gdg , but on the little string the G the string breaks before I can get it to go to G I can't seem to make it work any suggestions the guitar looks good sounds okay but the last string breaks before I can get it to G the neck is 17 in long you got any suggestions
Make sure your tuner is set to " Chromatic" when tuning to open chords. If its set for a regular 6 string guitar you will break some strings. ;) I explain tuning your CBG in this video ruclips.net/video/aRSv8QjZFls/видео.html
i tune my CBG to open "G" or GDG. as for strings ; i use the same kind i use on my les paul- earnie ball super slinky. ( because i normally have an extra pack around) out of that pack of 6string ele guitar strings... i use the 5th or "A" string from the pack for my fat bass or top "G" string and the 4th or "D" string for my "D" string on my CBG & i use the 3rd or "G" string from the pack and use for my skinny high "G" string on my CBG ... so i use the A , D , G, strings or 3rd , 4th , 5th, strings from a regular pack for a 6-string guitar. i hope this helps... also if your fat "G" is in tune you can tune your skinny "G" to it... its called relative tuning. and yeah. some tuners & phone app tuners will think you have a 6 string and screw stuff up.
Hey Robert, I think using a slide is all about preference, and whats comfortable for you. Get one and try it, see how it works for you. After you play with one, you'll know what you like and don't like about it, then get one that's more of what you like. I had to try a few before I found the style of slide that worked for me. I have some slide tips in this video. ruclips.net/video/sF8u85Vm1EY/видео.html
Ok so I don’t have time to just sit around and pick at amazing grace.... lol the only logical thing to do is take a vacation week ... thanks for the lesson you make it look easy ....
Southern Fire Guitars absolutely and I have a new CBG build ready to start . I ran across a nice padron box and I have one more piece of 150 year old chestnut I think I need to make myself one
This is a very easy rendition of Amazing Grace, played with a slide. Sounds really nice. Give it a try. M~
I wish there were more of these old Gospel songs done. Thanks 🙏
