  • Life in a Van FAQ and Tips (CHANGE of PLANS) Premier Products Tour (EPISODE 260)
    ℹ️ About this episode:
    On this episode of LivinRvision, we give you a little more up and personal of our life living in a van while we are preparing for a change of plans. Sometimes things happen and you have to be ready to make changes as needed. We had a couple things come up back in Iowa that we felt we needed to get back for, so we decided to make a stop along our way in Elkhart, Indiana at Premier Products.
    Along our trek to Elkhart, we decided to answer a few frequently asked questions that many of our viewers have been emailing us about. We figured if some had these questions then others probably do as well.
    Our first overnight stay is at…get ready…Cracker Barrel! I know, shocked, right? 😂 It was a Monday and we had an appointment set up right after lunch. So I continued editing up until noon and then went inside Premier Products to give y’all a tour while Michelle had to continue working inside the van. Premier Products manufacture and provide many products, including the comfortable seating that is in our Grech RV Strada-Ion. They also provide the very quiet AC unit that is new in the 2024 Grech RV models. Find out what else Premier Products does and take a close up look inside to learn more about what they make for not only Grech RV, but other RVs and vehicles as well.
    We hope you enjoy this episode!

    I appreciate seeing episodes that show how you live in your van. I have followed you since you had Vinny and appreciate all of the adjustments you have made in your lifestyle over the years. We have had a class B+ and now have had our class A for 6 years. We live in a RV community in Florida and travel part time in our coach. I would love to downsize to a Grech Strada Ion, but my husband is not ready to do that. He watches your videos also so you show him how you can live full time in a van.

    Great music on that section when you headed out. I really like your channel as you two are so sincere, believable and down to Earth. Don't change your feel....some channels start out like you but then become so commercial and professional that it becomes less personable and sincere feeling. Well, at least that's my opinion, fwiw. That can be a downfall for some. You have to think of it as the benefits over the negatives. We use it as an option if there aren’t any other options or to just use to freshen up. We utilize campground showers and sometimes even truck stop showers that are even cleaner than a campground. They clean the showers after every single use at a truck stop and even provide towels and wash clothes and two people can use the same shower for the one price and they still always provide two towels. We utilize these more when we are driving and noon docking along the way.

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  7 месяцев назад +2

      Yes. We like French press or pour over for health reasons. A Keurig would also take up more space and not as “clean”. Any type of machine that has water stored inside of it is a breeding ground for mold after it sits there. I cannot drink coffee from coffee machines without it affecting me.

    Since both of you have a need to work from the van, did you ever think of asking Grech to mount a small TV (maybe new & practical option) where your hats are on that wardrobe wall (it could be used as a 2nd monitor so you'd have one in the back & one in the front to HDMI-link it to your laptop or tablet while using one of your internet carriers' networks?) that would be ideal above the fold-up table (behind the driver's seat) to use when that chair is swiveled to face the back? That would seem (on the surface) to be doable, practical & enhance productivity for full-timers working while 'on the road'; and, better use that important & valuable wall space.

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  9 месяцев назад +1

      Appreciate the suggestion. However, yes we thought of that idea right away but quickly realized it wouldn’t work very well. It actually would not work well there because of the positioning and would be extremely uncomfortable.
      The desk at the steering wheel is actually very comfortable sitting there with the ability to adjust the seat and steering wheel to get your arms and eyes at the right level. Not to mention that we have the storage with drawers behind the drivers seat that would have to be moved every time as well, but still, it wouldn’t work well even if it wasn’t there. It’s hard to understand without physically trying it yourself but it works best how we have it.

    • @h.d.stevenson4713
      @h.d.stevenson4713 9 месяцев назад +1

      @LivinRVision COOL ... wasn't focusing so much on how you're set-up now, but what our needs would be for a 'mobile office' where we occasionally need to have clients come in to sign paperwork -- usually the office ... or ... we'd go to them at their home or office to finalize our proposal (a financial services firm in Metro DC [DC, MD & VA] consulting w/ prospects who require varied presentations regarding 'Protecting Retirement Nest Eggs', specialized Cash Value insurance contracts, Fixed Indexed Annuities, etc. where 2 monitors are necessary [but a Lounge floorplan wouldn't work for other reasons], so that 'behind the driver's seat' wall, again [with the smallest TV that would work] would be ideal). Thanks for your advice/input -- will follow-up tho w/ Grech R&D guy and/or Sales.

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  9 месяцев назад +1

      @h.d.stevenson4713 be sure to test the positioning first before having something specially made. Ideally you need to work in that position for a while to see how it works. We understand clearly and we obviously looked into the TV option but it simply would not be a comfortable position. I tried sitting like that just with the little table behind the seat with my laptop and that didn’t last long at all. If you’ve watched all of our videos, you know I have tried different positions that works “for me.” Once you actually sit and work in both positions, you would then realize. We’ve been in this model with the same drivers seat setup and have tried about everything. What Michelle uses in the back with the table and tv is the best choice for someone that only needs one work station. For me being able to work from my laptop, I am happy with what I have, especially for my height and arms reach which may be different for someone else.

    • @h.d.stevenson4713
      @h.d.stevenson4713 9 месяцев назад +1

      Again, many THANKS for those comments/input -- we'd plan to use a wall-mount monitor that would swing out from the standard/traveling locked position (seen typically in Winnebagos), face it toward a client (likely sitting in passenger seat) and they'd have a much better view of the screen contents vs. leaning over to the driver's side -- may work and would prefer a factory install for obvious reasons, so will run it by Grech.

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  9 месяцев назад +1

      @h.d.stevenson4713 A swing arm tv would be the way to go for sure. We hope it ends up being comfortable for you.

    As always, a great video! I have been following you guys since the latter parts of you 2 in your Class A. I will be getting the Strada-Ion Tour after the 1st of the year, and I want you to know that you are fully responsible for me buying a Grech! When they made you their ambassador, I was asking myself who the heck is Grech? I have been interested in Class B vans, and have been doing a lot of research for the past 5 years, and had never heard of Grech, until that time. Anyway, I like what I learned about them a lot. Thanks to you guys!
    I do have a question for you though. It is in regard to the built-in surge-suppressor/power-monitor in the Grech. You said that they have a "good one" built into the system. How did you determine that? Do you know the manufacturer of the unit in the Grech? That would be most interesting. Thanks for any input, and I am asking only because I do agree with you that having a good unit inline for shore-power hook-up is very important.

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  9 месяцев назад +1

      You will love your new Grech, we’re sure. We just show our life in it and never tell people they “should buy one” because we are all different and have different needs and price ranges we can all afford.
      Surge Guard: The brand is a very well known great quality. It also protects from all the things mentioned. It’s a pricey unit but it works well. It saved us from a low voltage pedestal already and our neighbor had a inferior external surge protector and it did not cut the power to their RV, but ours did. Their pedestal had the same issue with low voltage drops. Our entire row did.

      No self leveling. When we mention or show removing blocks, that is part of leveling.

      Open Roads is an app that is used with the TSD fuel discount program. You have to sign up for TSD. We provide a link on our website under our resources tab. Livinrvision.com/resources

      @LivinRVision  6 месяцев назад

      Depends on how much you have. I have 14 shirts and Michelle has 24 in the closet plus our shorts hanging. We have additional clothes in a tub that goes in the huge back storage that the 24’ Strada has. Those are things we hardly ever use but have available to iron when needed.

    Do you ever miss having one place to call home? And when you travel, how do you manage not wanting to buy things and as such then have too much to fit in your vehicle? For me, it would be hard not to go by antique stores or markets and not want to grab things, yet I know space is limited. I guess you just learn to say no and trade the experience for the keepsake?

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  9 месяцев назад +3

      We’ve talked about finding a place for a home base in between travels but haven’t decided on a location yet. To many places we like for different reasons. Sometimes it’s hard for me (Michelle) to say no to buying things because of the small RV space but when it happens we either pack some things away or give away to free up the space. Of course that would be for small things. We already know we can’t get big things like furniture, etc. We do trade getting things like that for the life of travel and adventure.

    Hey. I got a question. Someone had a question about staying ar a corp.of engineering. Or etc. It seems like you ob a tight schedule or a mission to get somewhere. Beings full timers seems like y'all are not enjoying the camping, state state parks .going hiking .lol.jyst saying....ret to go.

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  9 месяцев назад +1

      It depends on how you look at it. Have you seen our weekly videos of all the places we go? We enjoy a lot of destinations which also includes hikes sometimes. We have this channel to run which requires us to keep moving in order to continue to get content. It also allows us to see more faster. As far as campgrounds in general? No, our interest is not based on sitting around a campground. We utilize campgrounds all the time but we work/edit/and everything else involved with the channel during the day (and many nights) all week and film during the evening sometimes and filming on weekends 99% of the time. We may be working but we are grateful that we can do this while we can and not roll the dice that our health will allow us to once we are retired. 👍🏻🧡

      It’s diesel, not gas, and diesel pumps are usually very oily. Gloves keep your hands clean.

      There are places/campgrounds where Starlink does NOT work like in campgrounds with lots of trees and you need another option. All options don’t work everywhere which is why we need to have options, especially when you are working remotely for a company like Michelle does. At least with the Starlink plan we have, we don’t have to pay for it unless we absolutely need it.

    Why do you go to loves? Why can’t you just check gas buddy for the best gas prices?

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  9 месяцев назад +3

      TSD is a discount program for truck stops that we typically use when we need fuel along an Interstate where fuel prices are higher and Gas Buddy is used when we are traveling in areas like small towns or cities. If we are in an area where truck stops and regular fuel stations are available, we then check Gas Buddy as well as our Open Roads app (for TSD) to see which is cheaper. The thing that is different when you have something smaller like a van, you can get into all fuel stations where if you have a bigger/longer setup, you can get into some fuel stations because of size.

  • @michaelburt1663
    @michaelburt1663 9 месяцев назад

    But your paying almost a dollar more vs gasoline. It becomes a math problem. On top of that if you bought the van you need to add an additional ten to fifteen thousand more for a MBenz. That’s a lot of gasoline. I’m not even going to get into the matainance cost. It starts adding up to real money.

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  9 месяцев назад

      Gas uses a lot more fuel than a diesel especially with the more weight you carry the worse it gets and a gas loses its value much quicker than a diesel. As you say, it’s all about the math…especially over time. We’ve known quite a few people that have realized this after buying a gas first then switched to diesel later. Sometimes gas is the only option for someone because of the initial cost though. You have to do what works best for you.

    This just shows how tight and uncomfortable life in a van looks like.

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  8 месяцев назад

      😂 Well, from our experience and what we hear from others, that depends on the person/couple. We, like many others don’t choose to do this to “have a place to live”, we chose to “travel and live” this way (while we are healthy and able) so that we can do it without all the stresses of a larger RV, especially for those of us that move around often. It also makes a huge difference if you are a larger or taller person to where you literally will be more cramped. We have actually traveled and lived it a 40’ Class A for 2 years full-time and a 33’ Airstream Classic for 1 year full-time before doing the same in this van now for almost 2 years now. If it made our lives miserable, we wouldn’t be doing it regardless of any other benefits.

      No need to explain. I have watched every episode from the beginning. You both just looked so much more comfortable in the others. To each his own like you said. Pros and cons to all the RVs. Love the channel!@@LivinRVision

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  8 месяцев назад

      Oh, no…you’re probably not alone in that assumption, but it has not been the case for us. Not everyone feels the same way which is likely why Class Bs are selling so much from various companies. It’s not about the living space for many people, it’s more about the travels and less stress with less problems.
      However, a smaller Class B would definitely make it worse. 😂
      Thanks for your concerns and following. We’re glad you enjoy the videos! 🧡😊😊

    Beware! Premier Products is not honest! I purchased two of the Gree RV A/C units. The remote controls are not independent so they're worthless if you have more than one unit. The bolts they include in the kit are too short for many RV roofs (3.1" thick roof max). They are a metric thread that is nearly impossible to find in the appropriate length at common hardware stores. They shipped the units via a regular carrier instead of freight. The units are too heavy for most people so they get slammed around in the shipping process. The packaging for both units arrived completely destroyed. There were scratches and rub marks all over the outside of both units. I contacted Premier Products and they did nothing but tell me about their warranty. I tried leaving a 3-star review on their website, which was more than fair, but they won't publish it. I left a second review, same thing. They moderate their reviews to only show 5 stars. This is just another company that will take your money and then hide from you in the event of an issue. Please take my advice and find somewhere else to spend your money.
