This text and song move me to tears, it must be the most tragic song ever written! I love the simplicity of (what I thought was) the hurdy-gurdy (is apparently a shruti box) and just using a drone as accompaniment - the clashes of the melody against the drone are so good. I thank you so much for making me aware of this song / historic ballad in a Scottish version presumably about the English Queen Jane (may have originated from 1537 when Jane Seymour died after labour, who knows?) - the version I first knew was on your CD Fairest Floo'er. I gave it to my mother, a lover of folk music and Scottish song, in particular, before she died.

This is very moving.
Amazing music, beautiful video too.
Beautiful
I've loved Joan Baez's version of this song for over half a century. Now I love Karine's version too.
Still still think the song is about Jane Seymour and Henry and people would not have known Jane Seymour died of complications after the birth
Could someone please tell me what that is she's playing.
It's a Shruti box.
a shruti box
