Trying to teach their niece/granddaughter to let someone harrass her if they have a hard time in life and that it's actually not a problem at all because they are noticing her and by mistreating her are giving her attention all because they might actually do it because they like her? In adult life this means to not fight back or leave an abusive partner because they had rough day at work or because the dinner wasn't salty enough because you should be more understanding of their situation and that by acting such way instead of dumping you means they still care about you.
S1- the sister absolutely sucks for this. She really chooses a terrible bully over her own niece?! Wtf is wrong with her??!? And can we PLEASE stop pulling the whole "he's mean to you because he likes you!" bullshit?? S2- she really thought she could walk back in like nothing happened?? No. That's not how it works. You broke this, and you have to deal with the consequences. She had every chance to fix this or make the right choices and at every step she chose wrong.
At least everyone else (asides from the mom) refused to let Jeff come. The sister was so caught up in her desire to play hero, she was willingly putting Emily at risk. As a victim of school bullies myself. I understand both perspectives of the first story. In Grade 5 especially, I had a large group of boys who liked to pick on me, mostly verbally. The summer after grade 5, my dad and I were stopping by his workshop. A little context: the workshop was for inner city kids who have troubled lives and relationships, it was mainly a place for woodworking and bike repairs. A friend of his was there with one of the bullies from Grade 5, who actually treated me pretty well. Thinking back as I write this, I think it was because he had a positive area to be in and must not have felt the need to bully me. He even wished me a happy birthday because it was my birthday that day. On one hand, I can see why the aunt would want to help the bully, but on the other, I see why the mom wouldn’t want her daughter to be around him.
My child knows some kids who's mom is on OF. Yes the dad left her years ago and got full custody. He remarried and the kids call new wife mom. They dont even acknowledge OF girl and I cannot blame them. Egg donor is a real thing.
I understand that family dynamics can be really complicated, and it must be incredibly frustrating to see your daughter’s bully invited on a family vacation.
