My grandpa carried a colt .38 super when I was younger. I just now have been approved to carry the P Duo. 1911s are something that are becoming cheaper and more common and their quality control just doesn't seem like what it used to be. I truly believe that I missed out on the days of commercially available, reliable 1911s.
Great video. Great way to honor your first commander as well.

A little historical correction…Springfield Pro’s had zero to do with Les Baer or Caspian. The Springfield pistols were all theirs. Les did build an earlier version of a pistol for the FBI on a Para Ordnance all steel hi cap frame with a Caspian slide. The original Alchemy Custom shop in Geneseo, Il. built the Pro 2.0. This was where I would take your base Mil-Spec, gut it, and replace and re-fit and finish the entire pistol with best of the best quality parts.

@@RobSchauland I always appreciate the education Rob. On 9/11 my hi-cap will 10k documented rounds. 115, 124, 147 of a bunch of brands. Its never had a full disassembly for cleaning, using the same 3 mags the pistol came with 3 years ago. Thanks for an amazing pistol.

I run a 9 lbs recoil spring on my XC, I agree with you with underspring guns. I find it very concerning that some people are running the XC for duty use with the standard recoil spring!

great review, i have been wondering how these shot. My Erebus, Athena & Firehawk are "as is" from the factory and I can air rack them all. The athena is a little more tough but i can still air rack it with 10# spring it came with from Atlas. The FIrehawk has an 8# spring and the Erebus a 7# being compensated but that is how they came from the factory.. i think alot of it has to do with the tolerances and smoothness of the slide to frame fit

Lets not shit on Tisas or All Philippine made 1911s. I built a very nice 1911 in gunsmithing school that used the rock island 1911 as a base. It runs better than some of my Springfield pistols. The Tisas guns run pretty well out of the box too. I think they finally figured out the formula of using cheap labor to their advantage. I have several on my books that run well, brand new. So now its turkish mausers, 1911s and walnut that Turkey can make. Shotguns they are getting there but they arent quite there. Id put them at the 1950s US level of building guns. They learned alot but need to build on that knowledge. Im no grand master but i have built a lot of pistols and have tons of factory training and a degree in gunsmithing. I also spent 2 years as an intern and 21 years in the military, training armorers in some cases and at one point i signed for 4000+weapons and was final authority on them being issued during combat operations with zero malfunctions. I have turned down positions at sig and CZ/Dan Wesson/Colt so that I can finish my law degree. Someone has to fight for our rights. After I win a few cases, ill found a custom 1911 company. I want to give people a reason to become gunsmiths. Not just to earn a papermill gunsmithing degree from some internet gi bill grabber.

I had a new Prime Elite Carry and found it to be Highly Overrated. My Dan Wessons are just as accurate and have better triggers.
The Prime Elite was prettier to look at, but not $2,000 better than my Dan Wessons. Live and Learn.

That’s kind of how super expensive guns work. You are normally paying for minimally better performance or aesthetics, not a vastly improved shooting experience or innovation (exceptions being Laugo Arms Alien and LTT Beretta 92G RDO and a few others). Quite frankly, most shooters can’t take advantage of most feature-laden $1000 pistols, let alone a $3,500 pistol.

I’m sorry, but that’s false. PLENTY of 2011s out there are air rackable and it has nothing to do with it being sprung improperly. My nighthawk TRS Comp is air rackable. I can also air rack a staccato C2, P, XC. Also my Vudoo gunworks priest and my MPA commander. You’re saying all of those are sprung improperly? People out there can air rack Glocks. Are those sprung improperly?

@@rdrgear just sent it to your IG account. Point I’m making is the ability to air rack a gun in no way correlates to it being sprung improperly.

And i have never had a malfunction to date. This Christmas will make 3 years
