Great video! Being a complete novice to both video game tennis and irl tennis which I recently started playing, I don't have much experience but I like how TE4 shots work, having to hold the button down through your shot means you have to have really good positioning to prepare your best chances as it seems to lock you on once you press and hold the button. It's been quite fun to learn this so far. I have not tried FA yet but plan to pick it up as well. The great thing is we can get both of these awesome sims for less than the latest Topspin game. Win win
Great video again ! 🙂 You forgot one noticeable thing, though ; the difficulty configuration in TE4 is also done through the Helpers : - the Auto-Positioning speed - the Controls (Arcade, Simulation, Controls) which scale the penalties from a wrong positioning (up/donw, left/rigt), and scale the accuracy of the strikes - Footwork Boost - Previews & Danger Zone I prefer to not have sliders and propose a consistent opponent behavior and a realistic setting (eg: messing with the aggressiness would unbalance the differences between the different CPU playing styles & abilities).
Indeed, I forgot about those settings when talking about difficulty. Thanks for pointing them out, Manu! 🙂 Edit: to be fair to FA, it also has difficulty customization in terms of in-game helpers (aiming and timing previews, as well as ball depth helper), plus you can make the shot preparation mechanic manual for added challenge and control (have to hold the trigger).
Great point Manu. I prefer the difficulty level in TE4 than sliders. Sliders are good for combat sport games but not as good for tennis in my opinion. I'm dying for TE4 to come out on PS5 hopefully in October. Will the Mods be available upon release on PS5?
Tennis Elbow makes me tired physically while playing it 😂 footwork is incredibly deep in that game. I'm currently playing tiebreak but I will get back to Tennis Elbow once my player will be around level 60
Huge respect to both developers for bringing us these games and doing many things big studios can't achieve. Why a big studio doesn't try and hire either is beyond me. They have done all the work under the hood already and just need the polish added. I am a less skilled more casual player so lean towards to TE4 slightly but actually play TE2013 with mods mainly for its smoothness, slightly more varied and accurate animations as well as the great mods and pick up and play factor. Great video again my friend.
Your videos on tennis games are great. I got TE4 for Xbox. Great mods, great gameplay and so much fun. I'm not good at this game but I'm slowly getting into it.
I like dream match tennis gameplay much more. It has a timing element by looking at the ball and how close it is to you and it affects direction also a little. Serving is also more satisfying. Pro version is now free too :).
Greattt review, you just captured what I feel about the two games. FA is more rewarding and manual, while TE4 is making you face a better and closer to real players AI in a better overall player experience. I think a more modern and refined FA would take it for me, but until there, it's really difficult to put one higher than the other for offline play.
I have a really simple rule in terms of tennis games. The best game is the one where 1. average rally length is as low as possible, 2. most of rallies are ending with an error, not a winner shot. 3. errors are distributed pretty evenly between net and out. 4. no left-right, left-right rally bullshit Because these are the hallmarks of real tennis simulation The average rally length in real world does not exceed 4 shots, but what we see in Tennis video games, is average 20, even 30 shots, 90% of rallies ending with a winner shot, and maximum 3 rallies ending with a shot in the net per game. This is so stupid and relatively easy to fix. I guess even Tennis Elbow and Full Ace, they are too afraid to scare away the audience with such realism. Well, realism is the only thing I'm looking for in any video game, fuck the graphics. Winning a tennis match with 100 winners has the same dullness of "achievement satisfaction" as winning a soccer match with a score 25-20, out of which scoring 20 goals in top corners. So I guess the vast majority of gamers just want an immature fantasy, not a simulation experience.
hands down I will go for full ace in terms of physics foot work split stepping and more fluid movements but both games seems way far better than 2k25 and TB Cant wait to see FA on consoles and perhaps if financed well to have some improvements on the graphics and engine.
Great video man! However would beg to differ on something you said about the game flow point depending on how you configure the game, as generally rallies in te4 in the wtsl mod even amongst top players are quite short in length, around 5-6 with the split of short, medium, long rallies about 55/30/15 in general. The example you used in this video shows two players with styles of Djokovic and Murray at the absolute limit of skill (3000+ elo) playing a 5 setter on clay and for such matches the rallies can be quite long especially as tiredness sets in. However across the board, we’re averaging like 4-5 average rally length which is like real life. Here is an example of KingBarboza, whose play style is like Federer, playing Debuffy who is similar to Murray ruclips.net/video/iSyPEnAye6k/видео.htmlsi=fhBX95cJp072DJ6a and the flow is quite different and their rallies are not as long despite being at the peak of skill. Also surface differences impact gameplay as every single XKT court has different court physics. 153 short rallies
I've been a Full Ace Tennis player for about 2 weeks and a TE 2013 veteran a few years ago. And I can say FATS is definitely more realistic and an addictive gameplay. I soon realized that nothing is guaranteed in FATS, there's just an extremely high chance of success, an extremely low chance of success and everything in-between. Striking the ball very much involves the player's skill more than TE. Under ideal circumstances, in TE you only hold and aim. But in FATS, there's a lot more nuance than just timing and hitting.
FATS is a great game and I like the gameplay, but I just wish it was more feature rich. TE4 is also nice and different gameplay, but FATS is not as feature rich though which is why TE4 edges past FATS for me. Also playing TE4 on the Steam Deck, modding is super easy with the in-built mod manager. Whereas modding on the deck is not that straightforward.
The beauty of TE4 is that you can install all the mods from the in-game menu (there's a mod management section). You can watch my "Getting started" guide on TE4, which should be helpful for the first launch and getting things sorted. Generally, all you need is an XKT mod for TE4 and you're good to go (from the mods perspective)
Full Ace: No Doubles, Has Hawkeyes, Has Coin Toss TE4: Has Doubles (Mixed Doubles not in World Tour mode), Hawkeyes will be implemented in the futures, No Coin Toss
For me, I feel like the movement and shot animations are too clunky in TE4 which I can't get behind. FA has the smoother gameplay even with less player animation (e.g. no sliding). Overall, I think you have done a fair comparison but I am inclined to say FA should be talked about more due to its polished nature but with less features, TE4 seems more enticing to people which I understand. I will continue to be a tennis nerd playing my FA career mode as it suits my hardcore tennis gamer abilities better than TE4. Let's see how TE4 does on the PS5 and we could be in for a healthy competition!
What's the problem you're having? I would suggest to join either my discord server and write to me there, or join FA's discord server and ask for help there.
@@machetegaming my problem is I don’t really have a tutorial or guide to reference and I’m struggling to find the correct file to delete the patch or something I am just extremely confused.
Great video, you've gone over the top! I love them both, recently I enjoy the FAT more as I have felt a bit “pingpong” the gameplay of TE4. FAT has a more difficult learning curve than TE4 but once you get the timing and control, the gameplay is excellent.
Is there any difference between TE4 for PC and Xbox? I already have TE4 for PC, is there a reason to buy it for Xbox too? Apart from supporting the dev?
I can think only of 2 possible advantages : - if your PC is less powerful than the Xbox - for online, the Xbox opens the UDP port for you, so in some configuration, it may work better than the TE4 built-in solution There are 2 possible disadvantages : - the Xbox has only 5GB of RAM for the game (this is roughly equivalent to a PC with 6GB), which limits the number of active Mods - the Xbox has only 2GB of Hard disk space for the Mods, which limits the number of installed Mods
I see you took my advice on the camera settings in F A haha. Great video. Two major things that drove me towards F A over T E. Major things you mentioned btw... Serving in FA, while very difficult is super realistic. Once you get into a rhythym you genuinely feel like you have the advantage while getting first serves in and not when you dont. In T E first serves felt rather meaningless in my experience. The second is the precision shot making/mistakes in F A vs the endless awesome ralies of T E. I think T E is the second best tennis game ever just to be clear.... perhaps 3rd. Smash Court Tennis 2 gets a mighty honorable mention, especially for it's time. There is no right answer and clearly I'm in the minority on F A. I hope both these fantastic passionate devs keep it up for as long as they can as they're all us enthusiasts have sadly. Every modern game is trash.... except Top Spin 2K micro grind.... yeah that was super fun.
As hardcore fan of Top Spin 4 in my youth, years ago I was desperately looking for a new tennis videogame. Then I discovered the Tennis Elbow series and I realized that Top Spin was just a toy for kids. I did enjoy TE4 for a while, but I dropped it because results were absurd (Coric and Jarry became the strongest players of the game, I don't remember if had a mod or not)! Then I discovered Full Ace Tennis Simulator and life changed. I am playing FATS since 2 years and I still enjoy every minute. The realism of FATS gameplay it's unmatchable. All in all, I agree with the fact the TE4 its a more complete videogame, but the experience of a match in FATS it's the embodiment of playing a real tennis match. I love also that the editor consent you to make basically everything you want, even customize stadium and tournaments and that is amazing. Big complain of FATS it's the lack of WTA players and the absence of even the slightest aesthetic (not even a screen with a cup after winning a tournament...).
You can find a link to the FA mod in the video's description. Steps needed to install the mode are listed there. If it's unclear, you can message me on Discord or join Full Ace's discord server.
I can't believe the realism of FAT. I just cant believe it. The arcade crap with awesome environments and good close up graphics don't hold a candle to the gameplay of these simulators. I never played TE4, so I cannot comment. I'm having tons of fun with the realism...I would have never downloaded these sims without your help on the channel. The gameplay is truly random and addicting like real life...unlike the hold and smash crap of Tiebreak and Topspin...Topspin is like you're on Mars...and Tiebreak while I really think it has potential...still no first serve mistakes...not enough hitting the ball out...and you have exploits...like hitting to one side on a serve then just smashing to the other side on a return and usually getting the point.
Well. First a big thanks to Machete! I watched a lot of your Videos and Reviews to the entire Tennis Games. Because of the dissapointing Gameplay of the New gen Games like Tiebreak and Topspin 2k25 i wanted to have a closer look to Tennis Elbow 4 and Full Ace Tennis. So i bought both of them. My conclusion after a few hours of practicing is, that i cant get into the controls of TE4 properly. The handling of FATS works a lot better for me. But!! FATS is also really challenging. I tooks so long to take the Return Tutorial By this Serving Teacher. 😅 But i am very confident that i have a lot of fun in the upcomming winter months. Thanks for helping me with my decission for the best Tennis Game! I now see how good the pro Players are, when watching there FATS videos.
HI! I bought Tennis Elbow a few weeks ago and I really like it from a gameplay point of view. There's only one thing that bothers me: CPU results in big tournaments in career mode. Let me explain better, I almost always see that slams and master 1000s are won by random players and not by the top players, who always exit in the first rounds. This makes the game feel not so realistic to me and I often found myself playing finals and semi-finals against very poor players. Is there a way to fix this or is it just like that?
It is FA for me. It is fast, fluid and intuitive. I always feel in control, TE so far never really clicked for me. It feels restricted, stiff somehow, and the serving in FA is so much better. TE is still much better than the atrocity that is topspin 25 though.
The paradox of everything is that I'm 100% sure that casual players on consoles would much more accept FAT compared to TE4...more customized controls, clean menu...adjustment would be much easier, and players would get realistic gameplay...I'm waiting for that day...
Indeed, FATS is more gamey and has controls similar to what people are used to. When I think about that, it also has a smoother new-player experience. So I think you might be right. Would be awesome to see FATS on consoles. Let's hope one day!
Been playing both and FATS wins for me. TE4 sucks. Literally. Playing almost a year but playing online is just hitting bombs after 1st serve. It is impossible to even start a rally because every one servebots. Also players doing really weird movements when hitting lower BH or FHs. Doesnt recommend this game to tennis fans. TE4 is just ridiculous arcade about who will hit first and who will hit harder.
you cannot seriously say 'arcade' and then mention those two games... maybe you meant 'unrealistic', but I'd argue the movement speeds are much more realistic than sluggish TS or hyper TB.
