Andy’s still got that dry quick wit! I’ll never forget the on court interviews post the Wimbledon championship match in ‘09. Roger attempting to empathize with Andy’s hard loss - Rog having lost the year prior to Rafa - and Andy chimed right in and said something like, “yeah, but you’ve won it six times!” 😂
Joe Heydt (stringer that said it takes 15-20 minutes) is the BEST! He’s helped me figure out what strings are best for my game and takes the time to get to know everyone who comes into his shop💜
Great content Andy! These racquet stringers deserve credit for the hard work they do! It's nice you could go behind CLOSED DOORS and feature this to show us all!
Dude, you give tennis fans the best tennis content available. My dream scenario is you and Courier in the booth for all the big events. It couldn’t get more real than that.
That was so cool to see! Call me old school, but I still play with the Wilson K 6.1 90 (RF’s old frame) and occasionally the wooden Prostaff for fun - it’s like time traveling. And yes, I’m like Andy - it takes me about 45 min to string a racquet!
No, each main still has to be pulled and clamped in turn. Some just like to prethread so they don’t have to let go of the string end. Personal preference for each stringer whether they do this or not.
Depends, in general there's less rackets strung later on in the tournament so there's less need for stringers so some probably only meant to work for one week any way. If somehow your players all go out early in the first week, you probably get assigned all the players in events starting later like the Juniors, Legends and Mixed events
Those guys weren't stringing those racquets in 15-20 minutes at that leisurely pace they were working at. My all time best record was 17 minutes and i was hauling ass. Most of the time it's 30 minutes
I strung at the US Open in 1998. We had a HUGE rectangular room, approx 15 machines/stringers in a circle around the room, all looking towards an open area in the middle. These poor stringers look so CRAMPED. :(
"I'm glad something good finally happened to Roger." 😂
haha
"for Roger" -- and, totally agree that was the highlight of the segment.

Truth on this comment! 👍💪🎾
More behind the scenes content please! This was so interesting.

He's the best!
I second this! I used to want to just sit in his shop in Omaha and talk tennis
What’s the name of the shop and where is it located?
@@williamvergara it’s called Racquet Corner in Omaha, Nebraska
@@MaxandChee Thank you!
OMG this was fantastic. Please give us more content like this. Love the behind the scenes anything!
Great content Andy!

Such a great behind the scenes look!
This partnership is perfection
THis is cool to see this. I used to string racquets when I was younger to make some money. Its amazing the new machines and skills of the stringers
Roddick could single handedly cause shift sales to sky rocket
Andy congratulations from the behind the scenes video!! This is awesome..cheers from Argentina!! just amazing
Awesome concept! Cool to see this kind of behind the scenes stuff. Thanks for sharing!
Amazing behind the scenes footage.

Stringers get no credit, Andy doing it right, hats off to him
thank you andy for great videos. love you bro. keep it up
Every podcast is insightful. A former top player has so much access.
Absolutely fascinating (and quite funny) thx Andy
Very interesting - and funny. Thank you
Great video, thanks, Andy! 🎾
It takes me an hour from set up to finish, can't believe they can do it in 20 mins

I remeber watching Andy Roddick back in the days when he played Federer in the final of Wimbledon. I was so hoping he'd win it in 2009
Paradise for any tennis nerd
This is amazing
0:37 is that all tightened in one go?
there is slack at the throat and head, so they will pull tension individually
No, each main still has to be pulled and clamped in turn. Some just like to prethread so they don’t have to let go of the string end. Personal preference for each stringer whether they do this or not.
Another classic David Witt cameo
Roddick was so talented during his prime!
What current pro is playing with the old Blade V6 they showed several times?
This is just the beginning for Andy. No doubt he'll have a talk show on late night TV one day.
Is Andy using Shift or Shift Pro?
Why are they lowkey such a good duo XD
fukin' Andy ...SO glad you're out their sharing your wit and expertise!!
What’s strings and tension is Roddick using now?
Gut + Alu power.
So, about 53 miles of string for the US Open!
3:33 wat was he doing poking the string anyone?
I always loved stringing my own rackets - i'd put on some good music, take off my shirt and string 'em in my garden.
It's funny they are stringing Babolat racquet at the Wilson shop lol
He reps Wilson now, he made a video about it, pretty interesting.
Are they selling those baiardos after the tournament?
Yes
Anyone ever notice how similar Roddick and JJ Reddick are in voice and personality?
The fact that francis uses 42lbs of tension is insane lol
Love it
Do they always bang it like that after the stencil?
It’s to shake off any ink that beads up on the strings
Might stringing a racquet be automated? If we can produce reams of clothing with machines, why not stringing?
I wouldn't make it.....six racquets in 5 hours is my limit. But I'm answering fones and greeting people also.
So is a stringer done when all their assigned players are done? Like you might be done in two days or two weeks?
No. There are many other players that they string for
Depends, in general there's less rackets strung later on in the tournament so there's less need for stringers so some probably only meant to work for one week any way. Its funny to see Wilson keep pushing the Andy plays with the shift when in none official setting he’s always playing with a blade
Who pays the stringers?
I strung at the US Open in 1998. We had a HUGE rectangular room, approx 15 machines/stringers in a circle around the room, all looking towards an open area in the middle. These poor stringers look so CRAMPED. :(
Do they string them for free? Or they charge the players?
They charge for everyone except junior players, but it can be taken out of your prize money.
35 bucks a pop but players get 5 free stringjobs for every round they win
No more Roman Prokes 😢
Why u been dodging my texts Andy
Artesanos hábiles, bien pagados y trabajando en condiciones dignas; todo lo contrario a los pobres esclavos que fabrican las raquetas hechas en China.
Roddick's arrogance... geez!
Why does Andy wear basic dingy-looking T-shirts? He’s not a teenager anymore. Can’t he up his casual clothing a bit?
