My first art-history teacher in prep school told us that we studied art-history so that, after we made a pile, we wouldn't buy or build a Tudor house in the suburbs. I kind of liked this one though despite the antique mall going on in all the public rooms.
I hope a lot of the chairs and other antiques had been sold off before the boiler explosion! I can't imagine Louis XV furniture burning up! That would be heartbreaking !
I`ve been in antique shops that had less clutter. I liked the outside but the inside was kind of a disappointment. A shame about the loss of all the art and antiques.
Judging by the photographs, those coffered ceilings seemed rather low. It wasn't quite as grand as I was expecting, though that could be down to the quality of the photographs. Ken, did you mention as to how acres the estate was?
@@ThisHouse - Mmm.... I checked on Google maps for _Cederhurst, Long Island _ and was struck that it was in the Southern side of the island.... Is that correct? If so, it's not far from JFK International...
I would love to know how many fakes there were in the house. If he was as good at wasting money as Ken says, Talbot's expertise was probably a little vague.
Holey-moley!!! Stuffed library, anyone?!? That's insane! and a little ridiculous! How does one move around in there? Obviously no running in there!!. Lol😂
The woodworking! The endless rooms of antique furnishings! Absolutely stunning!
Such a shame that not only the house was lost but also all of the artwork and furnishings.
I LOVE this one. Especially the exterior. But those chairs, I literally burst out laughing at one point!
I've always been a fan of Tudor homes , so I liked this post
I'm thinking that their games of Musical Chairs went on for weeks!! 😊 I would say that wisdom wasn't his strong suit ...!!

Very beautiful house and grounds

Everyone has a quirk. 🙂
Interesting story.
Thanks ! That was fun!
those chair-full rooms are just odd ahaha
Oh no!
That's my house, only it's all vintage modern design chairs.
😮
I do enjoy seeing the historic buildings, but I still ask why? I guess I'm simply not a "show off what I have" person. Good tour, Ken.
More is more
Oh!!!. I get it!! A chair fetish!!. Ya gotta know when to say when! Oops, I forgot, money was no object-so spend away maestro!!. Just assinine!!. 😂😂
I have a chair problem also.

Very good at spending OPM - other people's money.

Ken, did you mention as to how acres the estate was?
I couldn’t find an exact number, but I would estimate about 10 acres based on the size of the 3 estates that were built in its place.

Interesting in that I too wondered about the " low " ceilings . Perhaps due to photo angles ? 🤔
That is correct! It is all the land along what is now Longwood Crossing where it dead ends (3 modern day estates) just past Meadow Way.
Wow! What is that dreamy white confection at 1:40 in the Victorian Society piece?? Name? Love it!!!
That is the California Governor’s Mansion ruclips.net/video/kfe1KuMpBSo/видео.html
@@ThisHouse wow!!. Thank you for that info!!!. And the link to the video!. 👍👍😁⚜️
For a minute I thought you might be referring to my house……waaaay too many chairs.
Over my life rime I have meet several people that knew hoe to make money but had no ideal how to handle it, they just spent it!!😮😊
I like to sit down but the number of chairs seem a tad excessive. Odd house of odd proportions. I like it.

These places deserve more than a six minute video. What a shame.
I guess you can’t have tooooooo many chairs🤦🏾♀️
Would he have been considered a “hoarder”?
... Come to realize we are living through the Preface...
I think the only thing worse than fire would be mother nature
He was a chair hoarder.
I’m sure he had insurance and I would bet most of those chairs were cheap fakes when it went up in flames
IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN, SHOULD THIS GUY BE REFERRED TO AS THE "CHAIR"MAN OF THE BOARD?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t like the crowded furniture in some of the rooms
Although beautiful, it was terribly ostentatious. Too much furniture and collections.
seems a lot of rich folks have materialistic disorders
I always thought women had boudoirs not men
