- Restoration of an Old Chinese Clock. This time I restore a beautiful old chinese clock. Unusually, I conducted this restoration work in my house as the temperature in my workshop has been too hot to work in. So I came home and restored this lovely old chinese clock.
I you want to have a more in depth commentary of the work and to know why the clock was in this condition to start with then please become a member of my website where I upload more detailed versions of my RUclips content ..

What a beautiful clock
Thanks Matthew ... I agree and it has a great tick tock sound too! Thanks for taking the trouble to comment. Richard
Nice clock, thanks Richard for posting
Amazing. What a superb restoration. 👌🇬🇧
Very pleased you enjoyed this one Philip! Richard
Wonderful job !!! Thanks
This is most beautiful clock i ever seem
Terrific job! I remember I was handed my great grandmother's clock when I was 17 to tinker with. I handed it back to her the next week running smoothly. It really was the Kickstart to my love for watches and clocks
Thank you for your video.
Remember to click thumbs up, post nice words, this is the way to make the Channel grow.
excellent job richard,i love your videos.
A true watch master repairs every watch with the same professionalism and you brought it back to life again no matter the time it has passed..and that noise at the ending ...shows it all
Thank Andrea ... I agree the sound is gorgeous. The clock's owner said how much he missed it! Richard
Well done you did a brilliant job from a retired watchmaker
Thank you so much Eamonn! Richard
Another lovely video Richard, mesmerising hairspring beating away & that lovely sound of a clock ticking smoothly in a quiet room.
Dining room table ,Fortnum & Mason Christmas pudding box, home made tools, just the best....improvise- adapt- overcome Sir !
Hi Simon ... great feedback. Thank you. Richard
Yep, you have done it again. Fabulous clock and great workmanship. Thanks for sharing this lovely old clock with us.
You had me holding my breath when you were sliding the delicate glass/porcelain panels back in place .Wonderful video once again!
Hi Mike... Happily the side panels were painted enamel on copper plates so a bit more robust than porcelain. Thank s for the feedback. Much appreciated. Richard
Wow, Richard! You are much more than that egg-timer-grade Chinese clock deserves! It's like a Ferrari mechanic overhauling a Trabant engine...
Haha! Nice one DetroitDeisel671! But it is my sister's Trabant and therefore it must get the full Ferrari service. Great feedback. Thanks. Richard
Watching your videos are educational and enjoyable ...perfect Sunday morning viewing.
As a hobbyist, This is quite therapeutic viewing. Excellent work, Richard! Subscribed.
This is the first time I've seen you restore a clock and couldn't get over you wielding a big adjustable wrench! I'm used to seeing you handle your fine precision screwdrivers and tools! Super job as usual!
Hi Vienna! So nice to hear from you! I did start out fixing main battle tanks so I am not completely alien to a toolbox that is almost too heavy to lift! Hope all is good with you and looking forward to a Tinkering for Fun video! Richard
Nice watchmaker
Richard, you are a great Watchmaker, thank you for yours videos!!!.
Hi Eloy .... Thank you so much sir! Much appreciated! Richard
Such a beautiful piece! And excellent job on that clock. I love the sound of them working again.
That was such an impressive restoration outside of the workshop, and you even made your own tools! Well done as usual Richard!
A nice looking clock ⏰
A beautiful piece!
Thank you sir and nice to hear from you! Richard
That was a change of pace, Richard. Another timepeice survives to live a long and happy life. Thanks for sharing.

Was waiting for your video
Haha! And first to comment .... nice one Sudeesh Patteri sir! Richard

Lovely work, as always...I love your attention to every little detail.
Props to you again Richard 👍
Hi Kent ... thank you so much sir! I was tricky working away from my workshop so your feedback is much appreciated. Richard
Great work by Richard, just super! You won't find or buy such watches here, except from collectors.
Wonderful job my friend!
Great video as usual Richard, what a lovely clock , I love the sea wolf showing as well . Looking forward to your next adventure. Brilliant
Really great job Richard nice clock, Stay Safe and have a nice day !!!.
Great job in less than ideal circumstances.
Good job 👍
awesome clock, good work man.
Its cool right? Thanks Ed. Richard
You sir did an amazing job. Greetings from Argentina
Thanks Alvaro! Much appreciated. Richard
Good for another 50 years.
Hi Peter ... I think with the high grade lubrication I have used this clock is now running better than when it was new. It keeps really good time. Richard
@@richardperrettwatchmaker you used enough oil and grease to do 1000 watches!
I like the proffessionality heart you gave to a clock, witch has perhaps or for sure more sentimental meaning than material vallue.
Very beautiful restoration buddy, like
👍
Классно получилось
Excelent vídeo and job.
Regards from México Richard.
Thank you Fernando ... greetings to you in Mexico sir! Richard
Ebay is flooded with this type of cloisonné enamel clock, they are made in Tianjin and are pretty much brand new, probably no more than 30 years old. The enamel work is pretty good but the mechanisms are variable quality to say the least, some being better than others with this being towards the lower end. It has more than a passing similarity to an alarm clock movement. Nice job on the restoration.
More videos!
Hi Richard, i meant it was sign of a true watchmaker to make your own tool, cheers Richard, if i'm not enjoying it i will do something else for a bit cheers mate.
Very nice job Mr. Richard. You are a real professional in watches. Very organized as well. I loved this work. Congratulations from Brasil.
Hi Carlos ... thank you so much sir! Greetings to you in Brazil from Wales! Richard
This is a vintage replica of antique clock. Antique clocks have front key hole and don’t have a second hands
Hallo Richard! I hope you're well. Happy to see your new video! Thank you for sharing. It's unusual to me, to see you using big tools like these ones and also working in a new location/environment! What a beautiful shoot the "landscape view" of all the pieces, also the Remington hair-dryer (I remember typewriters with the same brand name :-) ) and the usual Earl-gray pouring inside the ultrasonic, very English style! :-) I hope one day to come and visit your shop, to see live your beautiful Major watches!! Cheers from Italy!
Hi Fabrizio ... yes I am not used to using a spanner it was quite strange! I hope all is good with you in Italy and you are welcome in Wales anytime sir! Richard
@@richardperrettwatchmaker Thank you so much Richard! We're well but we passed very unlucky and sad days in the last year. I think it has been hard for everybody. Your videos helped me a lot in finding the right state of mind. Thank you!
A very nice mechanical clock. That mainspring is huge. How many hours does it provide? Also, it's nice to see a Sea Wolf out in the wild.
The mainspring would last 8 days, and usually you wind it up 1 day a week :)
Tem que dar corda! Legal mesmo é o relógio de plutônio que pode fiar cem anos funcionando!
Me: No way he can restore this
Richard Watchmaker: Hold my clock
Is pomegranate and honeysuckle the preferred Fairy soap for watch making? :)
Gostei
Ha! A new use for tea balls.
They're cheap and super effective! Richard
Muy buen trabajo. El liquido limpiador de ultrasonidos que utilizas cual es?
Te ha quedado el reloj estupendamente.
Por cierto, muy bonito reloj. Saludos
Well done. You may want to purchase a set of small socket wrenches and a few larger size screw drivers.
Definitely... I just wanted to crack on with this job on this occasion but you are correct it would have been easier with a set of mini spanners at my disposal. Richard
Great work sounds amazing and looks amazing well done how long have you been a watchmaker ? And what was your first watch repair ?.. and first watch you've ever owned thanks 👍👍👍👍
Fascinating video as usual Sir! Very artfully done! What a marvelous clock too! The enameling is so rich and lovely. Do you have an approximate date for its manufacture?
Nice to see you doing a clock. it seems to have a superb case but quite a cheap movement. I recently restored the mechanism in an Archibald Knox pewter clock. It has a very similar escapement wheel with that bearing arrangement. Unfortunately for me the hairspring was badly distorted but patients with tweezers managed to get it back in shape. The owner was ok with fitting a quartz movement but this happens to so many of these types of clock.
Lucky you had a milling machine at home! Are the picture panels painted on the back of the glass? Very clever if the are. As usual another enjoyable and entertaining film. Thanks. G
Haha! Hi Gerald ... sadly I didn't! So I had to go back to the workshop and suffer the heat, all in the name of making good videos! Thanks for the feedback. Richard
Thank you Richard, interesting video, Cheers!
Thank you so much To Fu! Richard
i guess my main question is, what is christmas pudding exactly?
I'm super curious to know how to it would work for you to service a breitling?! From Canada by the way!
👍👍👍👍👍
What powers do you use on your jewelers loop?
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great craftsman creating your own workshop 🤜🏽🤛🏽, is that a mix of white vinegar you used to clean the outer casing
Hi Mini cooper ... good to hear from you. No it was just simple water ... everything was cleaned again afterwards at least once so it was just to remove the outer debris.
How old this?
This looking good!
May I suggest you avoid using paper towels in cleaning delicate glass? The clay content in the towels will damage optical surfaces and may cause some harm to the enamel. The lint left behind the paper towel is abrasive. I routinely use cardboard to hone my pocket knife. The D2 steel is not much softer than glazing enamel.
For your consideration.
Simon
Hi Simon... Interesting I guess i should use an optics type cleaning cloth. Thank you for the tip. Richard
Lots of people think this is an electric clock, but somehow it’s mechanical
Está a venda
Nice is it for sale Richard?
Wow!!! Great vídeo. Drinking cocacola, eating salame and loving the show!!
In Spain we say: "God gives bread to those who have no teeth." How can you have a watch like this, in that state?
In Italy: whoever has bread has no teeth
😲😮😍🤩💖👍‼️
How much it is?
I use old toothbrush for cleaning
What is the value of the clock
琺瑯😍
At least with a clock you don't need a 10X loupe to see the parts.
Ржавчина осталась на крышке
Is this clock for sale ?
Hi Super cool ...sadly not. It's owner is very fond of it! Richard
I have a vintage Rolex that is in need of a complete restoration. If you would like to use it for a video let me know.
I think the exterior has more parts than interior.
I agree frank ... normally the majoority of the work is inside! Thanks for the feedback. Richard
It’s about….
#695 Thumbs uP
Must’ve been nice to work on a watch and not need to use the loupe.
Lol I‘ve seen this piece for sale online
Antico?? E' una sveglia anticata
Thats not too old!
Very old antike maybe 5 weeks old
Beautiful clock, , the movement looks like the least valuable part mind you.
Hi James... Yes pretty utilitarian but boy does it keep good time now. Thanks for the feedback. Richard
Doesn't look particularly well made, in fact, it looks like a typical piece of old Chinese junk.
Hi there ... your correct in that it certainly isn't a lovely precision clock movement. But in its defence, it looks smart on the mantelpiece, it keeps very good time and it needed this, it's first service, after 23 years of ticking away. In my book that is not too bad at all. I wonder if a JLC Atmos would go for 23 years without a service. I genuinely don't know. Anyway thanks for the feedback. Richard
@@richardperrettwatchmaker Point taken, it would look nice in the right setting I suppose.
Why waste time on repairing a piece of Chinese crap. It is nothing more then a 30 hour movement.
Great Video! (Jesimiel Millar Fernåndez) 1M1K493
