    It’s 2019, I could’ve bought many other cars... but I wanted this or the rolls Royce phantom, and I can’t afford the phantom... I don’t want an e class and I don’t want a newer verision 7 series. I wanted this exact beast! I’m so happy with my purchase.

    I have owned this car for 4 years now, I absolutely LOVE how it drives and feels, but it has been nothing but nonstop headache.
    Things that had to be changed:
    -4 (!!!!!!!!) alternators
    -3 AGM batteries (due to alternator failures)
    -2 DME (engine control module), recoded to the car
    -ABS/DSC module with pump and valve assembly
    -SBSR module that also is the controller of fuel pump
    -NAVI module removed after it started to fuck up all other electronics on optical bus
    -TEL module removed after it started to fuck up all other electronics on optical bus
    -water pump early failure after being used only 2 years
    -3 parking sensors
    -sunroof leaks every few months after drains get clogged and thus ruins interior
    -starting to have airbag errors due to seat occupancy sensors
    -tranny is about to get swapped because of torque converter and low oil pump pressure
    It is a nice car to own if you had it in 2000's, but the amount of electronics it has makes fixing them all at the same time nearly impossible and you end up having some errors nearly all the time..

      Sorry halloweenly that does suck ,,, I`m surprised you didn`t mention the dreaded oil gasket that cost 5 bucks BUT ,,, it`s $1700.00 to replace it !!! I know ,, i`m doing one right now for a "friend" and it ain`t easy ,,, believe me ,, and no `I`m not charging him that but shops have turned it away or laughed at him and others are starting at $1700 hundred and up to $2200 for a gasket that has absolutely NO USE AT ALL !! It`s BEHIND the power steering bracket which you have to take half the car apart to get to ,,, I`v been a mechanic for 40 years and have never liked to work on BMW`s ,,,,,, BUT,,,, thanks all you Beamer people,,,,, you sure have paid a few bills for me ,,,,, BUT,,, Now that I`m retired I only have 1 thing to say to people that are interested in buying a 7 series ,,,,,,,,,,,,,DON`T !!!!!!!!!

      I can tell you this, if the valve stems seals haven't been done by 100K, you will will definitely be doing it if you plan on keeping the car......big bucks to do this job. Beyond that, stand by for those electrinic gremlins to start showing up (mechatronics unit with the transmission, adaptive control failure, DSC module failure, power window motor malfunctions, parking brake malfunction/failure, ASK module malfunctions, oil leaks from the engine, vacuum pump issues and the list will go on and on). Not that I'm trying to be the deliverer of bad news, but stand by for bad news with these models as they get older.

The 7 series bmw is by far a better car than a s class Mercedes.

    This year BMW is very problematic. Not to say that the Mercedes-Benz S class of the same years we're perfect, they had a rust problem up until about 2002. but the Mercedes 221 chassis was much better then the 7-series of this vintage. A big problem is the can bus system, extremely complicated and not easy to work on. Mercedes at least had canbus Junction points where you can diagnose each bus such as chassis or engine. also, the seven series of this vintage always needed updates because anything you do to any of the controllers forces you to have an overnight update on all of the controllers in order for the version coding to match, otherwise many controllers will set faults because their version coding doesn't match. another big problem is the fact that the engine can't seem to hold its fluids. in the middle of the V is a tube that requires over 15 hours to replace due to a coolant leak. The crankcase vapor recovery system is very weak and incorporated into the valve covers. the engine used a lot of natural rubber seals that created a lot of oil leaks when the mileage gets up there, the alternator bracket seal is simply hell on Earth to replace, especially if it's the same engine in the 5 Series, much less space. Some of those oil leaks are quite involved to fix. the valvetronic system has eccentric shaft sensors that went bad in force you to do valve cover gaskets as well as Those sensors and other things while you are in there making a very expensive repair. The same area of a Mercedes of the same year has cam covers without valve cover gaskets (they use a cemical gasket), they actually hold the camshaft down like a Volvo, a very reliable design compared to BMW. the tubes used for the air pump system run in the middle of the V8 and are plastic, they break and create an air flow fault and require the intake manifold to be removed. I really don't see a benefit in buying a 7 Series of this vintage over an S Class that's newer than 2002, or any mid 2000s Audi A8. Anyway that's my experience having been European Tech for about 25 years .

      I have a 2002 745Li. It now has 180,000 miles on it and drives like a new car. I did replace the bushings, control arms, etc... The body looks like new, Black is still a bitch to keep up,lol. It had the dreaded coolant pipe problem, which I took care of when I bought it for 9k in 2012. There's also 2 leak possibilities with the alternator and vacuum system. but since the car has been sorted out, I haven't had to do more than routine maintenance. Tires, wiper blades, brake pads etc.. You can't beat this car on the highway. I drove from Minneapolis to Chicago (450 miles) unpacked and sat down for a half hour then drove to my old home town(50 miles round trip) for garage night beers with my buddies. The trade in value of this car is 2400.00 as of 1/17. SO, I don't buy collision on it. I pay a little over 200.00 A YEAR for liability. So when you consider the money I save from no car payments and the low insurance payments, I don't mind the extra costs of parts. So, in 5 years of owning the car I figure I've saved at least 1200 a year on full coverage(6000.00) and 400 a month, at least, in car payments(24000.00).That's 30,000.00 grand. I have an independent mechanic who knows his shit, and doesn't kill me at billing time. Oil changes cost me 75 dollars, but last 15000 miles minimum. Is the car perfect, no. No car is, but

    You're heaping praise on the wrong 7. The pre-2005 E65/E66 nearly cost BMW their share of the market. Bloated and buggy compared to E38. You could write a book on the number of flaws the early E65/E66 cars had. If you're into land yacht 7s, the E65/E66 is your groove.
    By the way, 7s have had bi xenon headlights available since 1990.

    You are wrong sir, I love BMW's got four of them ! However, these particular years (2002-2008) are nothing but Lemons and money buckets. They are so bad, my BMW mechanic refuses to work on them. You probably got really with this one but I would for an Mercedes-Benz S-Class any day compared to this generation 7 series !

    • @Divine_Serpent_Geh
      @Divine_Serpent_Geh 7 лет назад

      Bilal Ahmed Lemons???
      Wanna know how many I see running up and down the freeway everyday? More than ANY other gen 7 series. The E65 has problems, lots... when they were new. They were SO advanced. BMW had never done something like that before. Of course like any new highly sophisticated software, there WILL be bugs. On most of these cars, these issues plagued the first owner and they got it taken care of during their ownership.
      As long as you buy one with good history and from a reliable source, (Not at some run down dealership for $3k) those are the ones that have never been taken care of. Its a freaking flagship 7! The best from BMW! It's not a Honda, don't expect Honda costs for fuel and maintenance. But it's not a useless moneypit. There are many people that have E65s that I know personally and have not been plagued by problems. Things will eventually go bad. It's a car in the end, all cars have things that break. People forget that.

    • @bilalahmed2123
      @bilalahmed2123 7 лет назад +1

      The Man you guys got good batch of E65's down there. Every E65, I have seen always had some major issue and I have been told not to touch these with a ten feet pole.

    • @Divine_Serpent_Geh
      @Divine_Serpent_Geh 7 лет назад +3

      Bilal Ahmed Yes, you're right. ALOT of these E65s are full of problems because people never do any kind of maintenance and they pretty much trash the car. These cars might be hated by a lot of people because of the styling and other stuff, but honestly a car like this does not deserve to be trashed.
      That, or they try to find the cheapest possible E65 they can. (Very bad idea) Yes, many have problems, but not most. Most are not catastrophic like we were fooled to believe.
      From the ones, I've experienced and seen, they are actually pretty good. It's mainly the highly advanced electronics that are the problems. And again, by now, most of these have had updates, repairs etc...
      P.S. It's good to see some people can still have educated discussions on RUclips without resorting to stupid insults. That's rare nowadays. Thanks :D

I can write a book on it. to begin with the Valve Stem Seals go on these and it is a very well known problem $7500.00 to fix. 27 computers are utilized on the E65 and E66 so you will have engine errors constantly. Engine had a bunch of power but quality and workmanship is not to BMW standards on these models. Steer clear of the E65 and E66

If you take care of your vehicle you don’t have to worry, if you drive like a drag racer then you will have issues and that goes with any vehicle.

      Fiat and Chrysler was a better combo, since both cars are known for making very unreliable cars. Mercedes and Chrysler was the worst car marriage and I glad that they divorced. Mercedes build quality is second to none and I feel that Audi is the only mainstream German that compete with Mercedes. Porsche makes great cars and I love their products, but I feel that they do not compete at the same level as Mercedes, Audi, and BMW, due to their more niche buyers and lower volume of production. Mercedes AMG on another note is giving Porsche a good run for their money these days. The new AMG E63 S is amazing performance car and costs a lot less than a Panamera Turbo.

The interior also has loads of cheap looking gray plastic. The interior looks 20 years older than the car. Also paint quality is not very good - expect the clear coat to start peeling after about 10 years. Oh yes - the roof lining will go before this. As will the engine cooling, valve stem oil seals, park brake, and radio. On last thing - the cabin will leak water as the drains block easily.

Yes even classic 7 series and 08 750Li. And lastly the Audi A8. Mercedes new and old as well as EVEN Audi have better quality material then bmw any day. As a matter of fact the roofs of both mercedes and Audi are alcantera all the time. BMW never uses it unless your buying a V12. The wood, the leather, the ENGINE, all better than bmw. Audi is expensive to own but Mercedes destroy all of them. And Michelin tires are the best FYI. Last the longest and grip the best. Conti are quiet and that’s it with it

      J Wagner you got that right my friend...have no clue why BMW would have allowed it to be so unreliable.

    not to be smart, but this car will be a POS money pit soon especially at those miles. Cadillac Devilles ,S classes , A8's, 7 series of this era all are spacious, conformable, powerful, loaded with jet-age gizmos and are prestigious, but you better have thousands saved and set aside for those vehicles, because not only are they all high maintenance and unreliable, but complicated and a bitch to work on. I know from experience ...unless you have a second vehicle or thousands set aside,or can work on those vehicles, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

      I wnt to some janky Arab owned dealership in Atlanta and they had a lot full of these and 750s. i knew something was up because they were Arab and Arabs tend to buy salvaged vehicles and sell them as is. The fact that they had sooo many of them roused my suspicions. Although the cars clean up nicely, all it took was a flash light to see that every single one of the cars had oil leaks. Even if BMW gave these cars away people wouldnt be able to afford the upkeep. This is why 100,000 mile warranties are a unicorn at BMW

    And all you folks voted for s-class you think is better than bmw 7 series,i don't think so,let see i had chassis w221 and w222 and w222 redesign,faults of w221 are air suspension,compressor and air spring,one air spring is almost 2500euros per piece you have to chsnge both if one is not workinh propelerly,what about sprocket of ballancer shafts,you just need to take out the engine to change this shit,what about also leakage of coolant,what about electrical gremlins with electrical system,draining batteries,s-class has 2 of them,once due to fault of braking system i almost went out of the road,all dash was in red colour, relays gremlins,what about brake system,master cylinder,do you want faults of chassis w222 just i will say the diesel engines v6 have so many problems that the merc do not produce anymore now they have straight six diesel engines,my has leaking of oil seal,authorised dealer charge me 2982euros for this they take out all engine to change this shit,now new one redesign of s class imagine have plastic sump tank of engine and every time when you need to change the oil you need to change also oil screw or oil plug which is imagine made of plastic and it cost 47 euros plus vat for piece of plastic,the plastic cover of automatic transmision has also plastic cover with filter built inside i have so many problems with redesign of s-class so many time this shitty car was in limp mode that i want to burn it in front of authorised dealer and of course most of this faults happen before a few months ago after expiration date of guarntee which is just 2 years,so i sold this piece of crap and i can say i will never buy merc again it is just piece of can which lies on air suspension,this shit has limited lifetime and as far as i know try to avoid mercedes s class chassis w221,w222 and redesign at any cost except the people which they don't care about money or for the merc funs which are too stuborn to admit that merc is reliable car.salutes from croatia
