    What are the measurements of the cooking racks on the grand champ offset

    • @SmokeMasterD
      @SmokeMasterD  2 года назад +5

      Took these measurements myself
      Bottom 19x35.5
      Top 11.5x35.5

      @@SmokeMasterDI order a replacement bottom rack (about $60 bucks) and cut about 3.5 inches off of it length wise and then re-welded the frame back. So now my top rack is almost 16 x 35.5. About 1240 sq inches of cooking space.

    Just bought myself the char griller grand champ and haven't even done the burn in yet but I feel like it has a lot of bang for the buck. It felt like quality just during the assembly process. Far beyond what I expected or have seen from other char griller brands in the past

    Good review ! I found myself surprisingly looking a long time at the Grand Champ at Home Depot the other day. Will go back and look again. Was thinking Brazos possibly for next smoker to get the 1/4" steel but GC may satisfy for a long time until going for the Workhorse 1975.

    Thought they said on a bbq forum pecos is 1/8” and wrangler is 3/16” that why it’s heavier yet smaller chamber but it’s 24” cooking chamber width and pecos 20” or so.

  • @elfazzz6640
    @elfazzz6640 Год назад +1

    Pecos is the way to go, fully welded construction and larger diameter stack. I made a second shelf for the top and it holds temps like a champ. Charcoal basket is not necessary if you are using splits. I’ve found my fires burns cleaner and hotter making my fires in the bottom of the firebox. Next mod is adding some steel to the bottom of the firebox to hold heat a little better when smoking in cold temps.

    • @SmokeMasterD
      @SmokeMasterD  Год назад +1

      I definitely think the Pecos lends itself more to modification than the Grand Champ. Happy smoking 🙂👍

    One advantage to firebox seam is if the bottom burns out, it can be replaced with a new original part for less than $100.00.

    I'm trying to decide between the CG Smokin Champ and the DG Sig 37in. Any advice on which one might be a better choice? I like the side stack and the smoke box of the DG 37in, but I like the size and price more of the Smokin Champ.

    • @SmokeMasterD
      @SmokeMasterD  2 года назад

      I would get the Smokin Champ over the Dyna-glo personally. If you want a side stack though, I would try to save up for one of the two I recommend. Good luck 🙂

    • @MichaelBuilt

      Okay, I am definitely leaning towards the Smokin Champ then. This will be my first offset, so maybe in the future I’ll get something bigger/better like the CG Grand Champ. Thanks for the reviews!

    C Har griller is came along way the xd has thicker metal the smoke stack is 5 plus inches and at grate level and full ash catches in the box and chamber, haven't seen a bad review on it yet

    You can find the Oklahoma Joe’s at BrandsMart USA for $299, it seems to be the same model as Lowe’s.

    I'm stuck between the OC Pecos and Chargriller GC. Can someone give me a first-hand recommendation? Or are they about equal? I read OC is hit and miss with welds and other quality control issues.

      Not that I know of. The throat design is fairly unique.

  • @AnthonyMaske
    @AnthonyMaske 5 месяцев назад

    I was one click away from ordering the Longhorn, fortunately they were out of stock with no known date for being able to ship anything, I'm sure this was due to the shortages of materials during the pandemic. Anyway, I lucked out by that. This when I came across the Grand Champ. It already came with every upgrade I was going to get for the Longhorn, which was going to total well over $1200. Picked up the Grand Champ XD a few years ago, back then it was only $450. Also, I believe you may have missed an important point about the Grand Champ, it comes with gaskets already installed on both the cook chamber and firebox. There is also a support bar on the firebox that keeps the firebox from sagging when under heat (a known problem with the OKJ's).

    On the old country pits, the wrangler is smaller than the pecos, but it is $100 more expensive. Do you have any information that would explain that?

    • @SmokeMasterD
      @SmokeMasterD  11 месяцев назад +1

      The metal is thicker. I can't remember by how much. But that’s the whole of it (and the second level rack).

    Looked at the questions about the Champ on Home Depot's web site. Somebody asked where they are made. Char-Griller Support said "Thank you for your inquiry! While all of our grills are designed by our engineering department here in Georgia, our grills and parts are manufactured overseas in China.".......... thought it was completely made in Columbus Ga.... 😐😏

    • @SmokeMasterD
      @SmokeMasterD  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, if I ever see anything say designed in the USA, it's a safe bet where it was made. You have to look outside of box stores for high quality American craftsmanship.

    • @cms123tube
      @cms123tube 11 месяцев назад

      @@SmokeMasterD For sure !
      “Made in C” dials me down some but the Ga design is good for the money and I’d never say never.
